Huh, my cousin caused some trouble in Mexico and four cops came up. He was in the wrong, but family's family. Long story short, my brother and I broke one of their noses and we got 'detained' as you say.
My cousin was ten and he punched the principle in the stomach a few times after getting his eigth detention that year. Cops were there by chance, my brother and I were there trying to bail him out of trouble again. My brother was 15 and I 12. We both took boxing in some way since age 4.
My cousin straighten himself out. He was too young to go to any serious punishment, but they transferred him to a Jesuit school. Those priests are just too tough for him, and now he's a regular kid.
The disciplinary action the Jesuits gave him involved about 31 total cracks with a ruler, 5 hours with his hands taped behind his back, and one real good punch across the face. He hasn't done anything wrong since.
Neither my brother or I got a prison record. We were taken to the station, but down there if you don't stick up for a young relative, you're viewed as a coward. The big cheese said we'd better never touch one of his officers again or else he'd lock us up for a long long time. He was laughing on the inside though. How many officers get their nose broken by a 12 year old boy?
I changed too, as well. I don't mess with US cops. I don't want to get sodomized.
im going to just sum up my thoughts on this without skimming every post.... basically kids need discipline... now i understand that some people feel putting a kid in timeout works... some kids... like me for example... wen i was a kid .... timeout for me was a way out of catching a swat in the ass... some kids need that... they rele do- and they will learn... and no they wont learn violence is the answer... if ur kid is not a complete retard they will know better next time... some kids can get a time out and learn, other kids wont cuz u send a kid to their room these days and they have a tv, video games, a hol entertainment center... that isnt punishment... i dont say beat kids with a belt or nothing- thatz just wrong, but a couple swats in the ass... maybe a slap or w/e... nothing serious- just enough to get the point across- it would avoid alot of these spoiled brats throwing fits
I personally find it ridiculous that they needed to use handcuffs to restrain her. Surely they could have held her still while they drove her home, or better still just held her still and spanked her?
Ridiculous to say the least. I would like to see the video. Then maybe I could have a sharper opinion. It was in st. Petersburgh wasn't it? Hm:uhm:
Heh, I would have called the cops too if I was in that situation. I could easily deal with a little brat like that, but I wouldn't want to get my ass sued!
That kid has had problems in the past and I believe the police did the right thing to take control of the situation.
Big suprise....Al Sharpton and Jessee Jackson claiming this is racism
wow thats really pathetic... why would sombody even call the cops on a 5 year old, why couldnt the assistant principal just put the girl in her desk, she's only 5

They didn't need, it's just the way things work. You pin someone's hands they use handcuffs, there's not really a whole lot of difference between the two other than handcuffs are less trouble.
[QUOTE=.fuzioN]or better still just held her still and spanked her?
Not legal last I checked.
I have done some Law Enforcement work.
To best of my knowledge no one on school staff is allowed to touch or otherwise control the child. The Principal did the right thing to call the police if the school does not have its own security force. Considering the age of the children tehy problably dont.
I can tell you if the person, regardless of age is being unruly and wont respond to commands then typically you handcuff them to restrain them so they wont hurt others or themselves. I ahve also seen people handcuffed to restrain them while another person was being investigated because they didnt know who I was or what I might do. It was done as a safety precaution to safeguard the officers in the situation. The cops, even experienced are probably not trained to handle a 5 year old child acting like a animal.
Sure the officers could have restrained the child and held her but then what?
How long are they supposed to stand there holding down a child who is acting crazy waiting for word back on whos coming for her or how to proceed with situation.
The handcuffs are meant to restrain, not punish or cause harm.
The video doesnt appear to be visible anymore but heres my take. If the cops used the handcuffs to restrain the child pending what to do further I dont have a problem with that.
If the cops body slammed the child onto a desk and put a knee in her back and slapped cuffs on her so hard her wrists were bruised then yes I would take exception. But the physical act of handcuffing a person regardless of age to restrain them pending further instructions I dont have a problem with.
What I do have a problem with is what was wrong with the child to act like a complete animal and even punch the principal. I got into lots of trouble and even got suspended a few times during my school years but never did I try to hit or abuse a teacher or principal.
