Is it just me or is the government going too far when it comes to gaming? Conneticut Senator Joseph Leiberman (D) is trying to ban all videogames. He thinks it is "brainwashing" the children who play them. He is trying to make tobacco-like laws because of minors buying the games. He wishes to "fine" the dealers who sell the M rated games to people under 17. What is this world coming to? I understand maybe adult games, which are no longer being held in common stores, but M games? Yes they have gone far -- like BMX XXX and Vice City -- Perhaps they have gone too far when it comes to the nudity and the violence -- even language. My 10 year old cousin came over with a copy of Vice City and he began to say the slurs from there. Such as, "Do you know you can blow off someones head in Unreal Tournament 2003?" or "Did you know that you can pick up a hooker in Vice City, then kill her and take back the money?" I agree, the games have gone so far that they need to stop before they end up offending the wrong person and the creator ends up with a bullet in the head. Yes, people are that insane. Its just good for us that the Washington snipers didn't happen to have a laptop with the game Soldier of Fortune installed on it, or else even Dubyah would be ranting about it. Why should we blame the game creators when it is really the parents who allow their children to purchase these games? I, myself, own Vice City, and I think it is an awesome game. I always do the street racing and just cruise around on a bike. Yes, you can get the SWAT team in there and tear them to shreds with a chainsaw or steal an Apache helicopter from a military base. You can even make a gang war happen between the locals. This game is over the edge, but it doesn't mean that we should ban them.
If Joseph Leiberman makes it into office, he can and will ban all videogames. Whats after that? The internet? If he bans the internet where will all the little people with no lives rant about systems they haven't even played on? After he takes the internet away from the public, then he will strike at even literature. Such as how Tom Clancy uses language in his books and is descriptive when a bullet tears through someones cranium? Or how Stephen King writes a book that includes people having a worm go inside of their body -- Dreamcatcher -- and eat them up inside. Eventually, movies will be banned. NC-17 movies are no longer held in public theatres. Then he'll take away OUR freedom to be an American. Why not concentrate on the issue at hand? Such as taking out terrorist cells? The first amendment will help us in this spot, but we cant be 100% sure. Soon enough when I get my host, ill begin a petition to keep them around. Keep all this in mind.

Chill out man, they won't ban video games, they'll just try to enforce the age limits more. Though it's all bollocks anyways cos my lads got Vice City and he's 9! I bought it for him! OK so I play it too, but he sees worse on the news at tea-time fer Christs sake! Nah, don't fret over the games buddy.
PS This should have been in the General Yib Yab section me thinks.
yes me thinks it shouldeth beath in the general stuff. eh wot wot. lol sorry.
um, all i can say is...........
didnt understand the whole concept but, meh
They're only protecting the newer generation so the don't turn out like us.
How did "we" turn out? I turned out fine, to me atleast. Just because I wish to be a USMC sniper when I get older doesn't mean I turned out wrong. Even before I played video games I was into violent things. Just thought I would include all that. :D
