I have put this story on a different forum, and it went quite well, hopefully you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! ----------------------------------------------------- Prologue

“It’s cold. Too cold.” Sebastian lay in a small, cold bed, no pillow with just a small baby’s blanket to cover the lower-half of his body. He tossed and turned in his bed, trying to find just an inch of warmth, he can never get a wink of sleep. “I need to get out of this dump!” He got up, got dressed and left his flat. He wondered the streets a while, Hobos on the street had a better chance of getting to sleep than he did. He looked back at the large, run-down apartment building, bricks chipped and windows missing. Sebastian walked past a news paper vender. He could see only half of the headline, “Barton flats con…” He looked around for some spare money; he picked up a quarter from the ground and put it into the vender. The headline read “Barton flats condemned” “AHHHRRRR!!!” He yelled at the top of his lungs. “DAMN IT!” he threw the paper on the street and ran back to his flats. Once he was out of site, the hobos ran for the paper, for an extra blanket. Sebastian ran into his flat and started packing, not that there was much to pack of course, but there was still something. He left and started looking for a job. He looked very shady in the darkness; he rested himself against a wall, pulled a cigarette out of his pocked. He lit it as a woman across the street was watching him. She walked up to him. “Umm, excuse me…” she said in a sort of nervous voice. “…how would you like to earn some big bucks?” Sebastian looked up quickly. “What?!” “You do?” She continued. “Thought so, I need someone to…” She paused for a moment, and continued “kill my husband” “Wow wow wow… you got me all wrong lady” “Are you sure? I’m willing to pay up to $50 000.” Sebastian spat out his cigarette. “$50 000!?” “Yes, will you do it?” Sebastian looked at his shoes, holes in there soles, he then looked up at the flats, and then at the woman. “Alright…” ------------------------------------------ Chapter 1

It started to rain. Thunder clouds lighting up the sky for a split second, while a sort of warm rain soaking in the streets. Janet and Sebastian stand alone in the streets, Just staring at each other, both silently wondering what the hell they’ve just done. “Well then, it’s done! My name’s Janet…” She outstretched her arm, expecting him to shake her hand. Sebastian stared at her hand for a while, before grabbing it.

“Sebastian” He solemnly replied, and shook her hand. “Okay then, we will meet again tomorrow.” She hesitated to continue, but still did “Same time, same place…” “Fine, midnight and here.” She went to kiss him on the cheek, but pulled back, wanting to wait until after the job is done. “Goodnight…” Sebastian looked at her, and left.

What the hell am I doing? Why did I accept? I could get arrested, put to death… but I need the money, DAMN IT! Why did I let my life slip so low? Sebastian thought, walking around the streets, before reaching his flats and going to bed

What am I doing? That could have been anybody! A cop, a creep, I couldn’t even see right, it could even of been my husband, I don’t even think he’s professional. Thought Janet whilst walking home, her house was huge, a large mansion on top of a hill. She got in. “I’M HOME!” she shouted to her husband. “What are you doing back so late? Where have you been?! “I went out…” She looked away from her husband “Doing what…?” no answer. “I SAID DOING WHAT!” He slapped his wife. “You’ll be sorry you’ve ever hurt me!” “What!?” She continued to look away from him. He walked up to her, kicked the back of her leg and beat her for the rest of the night.

The next morning, Sebastian walked around the city centre for a few hours. He visited a free net café and decided to do a little research on guns, seen as though he’ll be using one later. He chose a small hidden corner where nobody would see him, and researched rifles and weaponry associated with snipers. That night, he headed to where he met Janet, he felt as though he new how to use a gun professionally now. When Janet appeared, she was wearing a black hood. “You okay?” he asked emotionlessly, pretending to care. “Yeah, fine…!” she replied in a shaky tone. “Take off the hood.” He ordered “…no” “Yes!” she pulled down the hood to reveal a black eye and multiple gashes on her face. “What happened to you?” “Are we here for just idle banter” She snapped. “You’re here for a reason you know!” “Alright, alright, just give me the gun and I’ll be fine.” “Oh no, your not using a gun, I want to make him suffer!” “But I can only use a gun!” “Tough! You get what you’re given. No take these and make it slow!” She gave him two blades and a mask. “I live at 52 Renter Avenue, you will find him there. This is my mother’s number, call me when you’re done. ----------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2

Janet left the scene, It was raining heavily now. Sebastian stared at the mask and blades in his arms. He took out a piece of paper Janet gave him and unfolded it, it had her contact details, and where her husband will be. He went to his flat, and put the costume on. Before he left his flat, he put on a coat and shaved off his beard, to make sure nobody would recognize him. He kept a hood on until he was sure he wouldn’t be seen until he reached the house. He grabbed the doorknob, paused, and let go. He walked around in the street, thinking about what the hell he was doing and why.

This is ridiculous, I’m an amateur! I don’t know the first thing about assassination, I need the money though, Damn it! Why me? What do you have against me!

He walked back and forth on the grassy knoll in front of the house.

And her, what does she gain out of it? A dead husband and a loss of $50 000. But looking at this house, that won’t be hard to get back!

His face shot across towards a window, as he saw a light get switched on. “Damn! This is gonna be harder than I thought!” He ran behind the porch and hid. The man walked out, quite a large man. He scouted the area for a bit, looking for his wife. It was cold out and there were goose bumps forming on his skin. He re-entered his house and switched the light off. He left the door unlocked, so Sebastian quickly entered and slammed the door, he started to sneak through the house, but was stopped when he heard a voice.

“Where have you been Janet?” He said in an eerie voice. Sebastian stayed silent at the doorway. “Janet?” He switched on the light. “Wrong!” Sebastian said emotionlessly as he began to approach him. “Who are you?! Where’s Janet?” Sebastian continued his approach. The Husband was slightly taller than Sebastian, but that didn’t stop him. The husband began to back off when he saw the blades Sebastian was holding. “What do you want?!” He started to cry. “What do I want? $50 000” He said as he impaled him quickly in the stomach with his left hand blade. The husband was struggling to breath, but could still make out “You don’t… want to do this… do you? Wimp!” Sebastian looked up quickly and slit his neck with his right hand blade. He was dead, lying down in the puddle of his own blood. Sebastian sliced of a hand and put it in a small duffle bag as proof of the kill. He walked over to the house phone and dialled the number Janet gave him. The phone rang for a while, before an elderly lady picked up. “Hello?” “Umm… is Janet in? “Yes, just a minute. Janey! Phone!” There was a pause before Janet picked up. “Sebastian?” “Yeah… the jobs been done.” “Okay, on the back of the piece of paper is the address, I want proof of it.” “Fine… Janey?” “Leave it. Hurry up.” She hung up as Sebastian did; Sebastian left the house and headed for Janet’s house. -------------------------------- I'll post the next chapters once I get some feedback. Any feedback appreciated.

It has it's flaws. Like why Sebastian accepts that contract so fast? But overall it's a nice piece of literature.

Tis a little fast paced, though I guess that's a given for any short-story. Good job so far.

It would be nicer if you add in illustrations... but over all it's good, very good...

Ok, here are the next few chapters ---------------------------------- Chapter 3

It had stopped raining once Sebastian reached Janet’s Mother’s house. It was a small bungalow, with a large lawn and a fish pond round back. He entered the porch, and knocked on the door. “Who is it?” said an old voice. “… Sebastian. I’m here for…” “Janet? Just a sec” There were multiple locks, padlocks, chains and bolts on the door. The door creaked open, and the old lady said “Come in, come in.” the old lady was short and thin, and looked quite pale. “Where is she?” he murmured. “She’s in the living room. Would you like a cup of tea?” “No thanks.” He said quietly “Ah, coffee then” “No!” His tone of voice rose, and Janet entered the room. “Hi… have you brought it?” Sebastian nodded, and then looked at Janet’s mother, signalling for her to leave. The old lady looked at Janet. And went off to bed. “Well… let’s see it.” She ordered, looking quite nervous and pale. “Come on, come on! We haven’t got all night!” He looked at Janet, then reached into the bag, and pulled out the savoured hand. “God! He’s really gone!” She could not stop staring at the hand that was starting to rot and smell a bit, until she ran to the bathroom, and vomited. “You ok?” He asked, starting to worry a little bit. “I will be in a minute. I’m just gonna… brush my teeth. Get rid of the taste and the smell.” “Alright, I got plenty of time, where’s my money though?” Janet spat out the tooth paste before leaving the bathroom. “Come with me” she said quietly. They went down to the cellar in the back yard, which they would use encase something bad happened. “We put the money down here. We haven’t really used this place, so I figured it’d be a good place to hide it.” As soon as they entered the cellar, Sebastian ran strait back out “Goddammit! This smells worse than the hand! Can’t you smell it?” “Nope” She turned around and he saw she had a nasal strip on. “Why didn’t you give me one of those?!” “You didn’t ask, now are you coming?” “I’ll wait out here, thanks” the night was quiet. After the storm, there were no clouds in the sky, and the moon was bright. What have I done? What am I still doing here? Did that guy really deserve to die? Ahrrrrr, I should just stop thinking, that’s the way to block out my God forsaken Conscience. “Here you go.” Sebastian flinched. “Whoa, you trying to kill me?” ”He he, here’s your money, hope your happy out of this.” “…Maybe, but what do you get out of this?” “Freedom…” She said quietly, “10 years I’ve been through, getting beaten by that moron. I tried to hire many people to do the job, they all grassed me up, then HE bailed be out of slammer, just to get slammed. And now, it’s stopped, over.” She managed a smile, before breaking down in tears. “Hey hey hey. Don’t cry.” He ran over and hugged him. “Thanks, there is only one other person that cared this much for me, and that’s my own mother.” “No problem…” They started into each others eyes, before passionately kissing. “Um, I’ll see you around.” Said Janet “Uh, are you staying here tonight?” “What do you mean? Is he still in the house?” “Well…” He started, but could never finish. How could anyone say to someone there dead husband is still lying dead in her house. “I don’t believe it! How could you do that?! Do you want me to get the blame for all this!? “No, but, nobody saw us right? “No…” “Well…” He paused, and made sure there was nobody around. “Does… Did he have life insurance?” “Yeah… maybe… I’m not sure. Why?” “Oh, c’mon. No one knows about me and you, your husband is dead, you would get the insurance…” “Fraud?!” “Only a little. Consider it a bonus prize. We’ll go tomorrow. But I need a place to stay.” “Oh, yeah, come in, I’ll make up the sofa.” ------------------------------------------ Chapter 4

Sebastian didn’t go to sleep, he stared at the ceiling of the lounge, thinking. What the hell are you doing?! Why the hell are you doing it?! Its bad enough you’ve been killing people, but c’mon, insurance fraud? Gimme a break! He got up and got dressed. He entered Janet’s room and kissed her on the forehead. She smiled in her sleep. He stared at her for a minute, and left the room. He entered the kitchen and poured a glass of water. He leaned on the counter, and drank the water. He went back into the lounge and grabbed the bag with his money and his assassin outfit. He swung the bag over his shoulder, but one of the blades were sticking out of the bag and he hadn’t noticed. “Ah, DAMMIT!” He shouted, waking Janet and her mother. “What happened? Sebastian?” Janet shouted. No response. Sebastian ran into the kitchen and grabbed a First aid kit, before running out of the door. He rested down behind a bus stop shelter. He could feel the bleeding wound on his back and carefully rapped a bandage round his waist where the wound was. He stood up and started to walk, he was in a lot of pain, but soldiered on. There was blood on his hands so he needed to keep them hidden so someone doesn’t get the wrong idea. He staggered past the hospital, and went back to his flat. It was being closed down in 2 days, and he wanted somewhere peaceful to stay for a while. He entered the Bathroom and washed the blood of his hands. He opened the bag and counted his money. It was all there. He put it back in the bag, and sorted out the blades to make sure he wouldn’t get cut again. He fastened the bag back up again, and went to sleep. In the morning, Sebastian woke up still tired. It was cold in his room, a feeling he had grown used to, yet never liked. He put his coat on and picked up his bag. When he walked out of his apartment he noticed a black car with tainted windows. It looked rather suspicious, but he carried on. He walked down an ally, heading to an estate agent’s. He needed somewhere to live now, but he was on a tight budget. He saw a house that was a comfortable size, but not such a comfortable price. “Damn… $75000. He looked at his bag. “Someone might need something done…” He walked out of the shop and noticed the black car again, he walked over to the car, and tapped on the glass, he tried to peer in but the glass was too dark. He gave up and walked off. As he left the street, the car engine started up, and followed him off the street. “How would I go about advertising… how!?” He was walking down the street when he bumped into a cop, and dropped his bag. The money sprawled over the street; they were tied up with elastic bands, so they didn’t blow away. “Ey up, what have we here then?” Said the officer “Uhh” Sebastian was thinking fast “Inheritance, my uhh, uncle died last week, and left me this money in his will.” “Really? Well I guess you won’t mind me checking the bag… thoroughly, will you, son?” “Sure…” He knelt down and put the money back in the bag. With his hand still in the bag, he grabbed the handle of one of the blades and stood up. “Here you go!” He impaled the police officer through the bag. He through the cop on the floor and ran down the street. He had to make a very sudden stop when the black car pulled up right in front of him. “Get in!” said a familiar voice “C’mon, c’mon, we haven’t got all day” “Janet?” “For God’s sake, get in!” He got in the car and slammed the door shut. The car sped off, down to Manhatten ------------------------------------------ Chapter 5

“Janet? Janet, what the hell are you doing here?” Said Sebastian, a little freaked “…” Janet stayed silent “Janet?” “Listen, just because I picked you up doesn’t mean that I’m not still angry at you…” She paused. Sebastian stared, eagerly waiting to see what else she had to say. “I didn’t want to see you get hurt or in trouble.” “I see…” Smirked Sebastian “SHUT UP! This is very important to me… you’re very importa…” she paused and squinted as she tried to here a faint sound “What’s up?” Janet lifted her index finger in a vertical position “Shhh” She rolled down the window of the car and stuck her head out the window. She widened her eyes, surprised and stuck her head back in quickly. “Driver, step on it!” “What’s the matter?” asked Sebastian “Cops!” said Janet, in a rather frightened tone “Goddamn! Hope your driver knows what fast means.” “PULL OVER” Shouted a cop from the leading car, “I SAID PULL OVER!” “Goddamn man, speed up! “Shouted Sebastian. The cops started ramming the back of the car, to make it spin off road. “For the love of god man! HURRY UP!” Sebastian was getting very annoyed by the driver’s slow pace, and climbed over to the front seats. “C’mon man!” The driver stayed silent, maintaining his speed, which wasn’t fast enough, the cops rammed them again, this time the driver losing a bit of control, but managing to get it back. “We don’t have time for this!” Sebastian opened the driver side door, and pushed the driver out onto the road. “ARE YOU CRAZY!? You could of killed him!” Shouted Janet, distressed. “It’s nothing new anymore” said Sebastian, emotionlessly Janet climbed over to the passenger seat. “Listen I…” “PULL OVER!” The cops went for another push, this time anticipated, Sebastian moved over the lanes of the road, dodging the car, the 2 cars were now side by side, Sebastian rammed the side of the car, forcing it off the road. More police cars joined the chase, the interstate was busy, and this was a dangerous event. Sebastian shifted the car into the top gear, and slammed his foot down, speeding away, heading into a small town. “How far is Manhattan?” asked Sebastian “About 24 miles, why?” “You’ll see, there is a construction site somewhere around here, it’s big, the council’s building a series of new estates, we could probably lose them there.” Sebastian made a series of last minute hand break turns in an attempt to lose the cops, failed. “There it is!” shouted Janet. Sebastian headed strait for it. “Nah, that’s not it, but it’s a start.” He drove strait for the site; he drove a sort of misleading slalom course, the cops still giving chase, there was a small dirt ramp, jumping over a stream, which lead to a dirt road at the other side. “Hold on!” He jumped strait over the stream, followed by a series of police cars, some didn’t make it and fell into the stream. “We’re nearly there, it’ll be over soon, and once we lose the cops we’ll be fine.” “I hope your right” said Janet “You worry to much.” Smirked Sebastian while leading to a large series of sharp turns. “We’re here.” He stopped in front of a large construction metropolis. He slammed his foot down, but stalled the car by accident, and the cops were gaining on them, he shifted into the correct gear, and quickly got out of the way of the on coming stampede of sirens. “Tell me again, how are we suppose to lose them?” “Through good driving…” “BY WHO!?” “Very funny, put your seatbelt on.” He swerved through the girders and builders, hoping the cops would leave and give up, no such success. “Persistent Assholes!” shouted Sebastian. “Janet, did your driver ever carry a gun?” “What? You can’t be serious” “There isn’t any other choice, just check will ya!” “Ok…” she opened the glove compartment, and handed Sebastian a pistol that she found in the compartment. “Great, hold the wheel.” He stood up, and opened the sun roof. “Hold the car steady Janet, I need a good view!” “Your not gonna shoot them are you?” “No, just the tyres.” He aimed for the front tyres of the leading car, but nearly dropped the gun after a sharp turn. “What the hell’re you doin’!” “Sorry, I lost control.” “Just keep it steady!” He aimed again, and shot the one of the front tyres, and the cop car started to lose its control, and spun of the road. “YEEEHAAAAW!!!” Shouted Sebastian, he started shooting for another tyre on a different car, when he realized he wasn’t the only person who had a gun. His eyes widened as he stared at a SWAT car enter the scene; he shot at the police cars, but thought he would never get out of this. But then a stroke of luck, he shot a tyre of one of the police cars, and it skidded out of control, and it overturned, making a large pileup of cars in the middle of the interstate. He got back down into the car. “Well that’s that problem over.” “Not quite… look” She pointed out in front of her and Sebastian. There was a line up of cop cars in front of them. “We’re in trouble now…”
