Now this may be a bit premature, considering I haven't sent Hewster WW_Battlecreek yet, but I can only design at work, not create in Radiant :). According to the results of Bolty's poll for future maps, I've decided my next map will be ww_trainrobbery (yes Queeg, for the current WildWest ;)). El Paolo, you have some great ideas, including the train map design you sent me. Unfortunately, the layout of the map will be dictated how the train goes around in a circle (credit to Hewster for the idea). Hewster, can you send me the ideas you and Bolty had? If you want to keep them, or didn't have much, that's cool. I'm thinking a script mover which goes around in a circle and slows down or stops at points along the tracks. I'm thinking high terrain, where you can climb on top of a cliff and jump on to the moving train. If the train is a solid script mover, will the objective (i.e. gold) stay on the train I wonder? Probably won't be able to blow up the bank car since I don't think that can "move". The defending team also couldn't spawn on the train, so it will be a little tricky to balance the fighting. How about requiring the offensive team to go through a tunnel. So it'll slow them down since they have to time not being in there when the train comes. I can't wait to see it gib somebody! What about 2 sets of tracks with trains passing eachother? lol
What about writing code Hewster, which makes the players spawn when it stops at the bandit station? That would be awesome. All aboard!! lol
I think Cheathunter said the he will also make that map.
You're right, I forgot. I PM'd Cheathunter to find out if he's still working on it. He hasn't posted in the WildWest forum since Feb. 11th though, so somehow I doubt it.
Cheathunter is a good kid, with loads of enthusiasm, but I don't think we'll be seeing a quality train-robbery map from him in the near future (no offence cheathunter) I think he now understands what a task making a quality map is, but props to him for accomplishing so much at such a young age, I'm sure he will be a quality mapper when he gets older.
Train robbery map.. don't take this on lightly, as I said before we did start on a map, but it was dumped in favour of hacienda because of the possible technical difficulties.. first problem was getting the train to move nicely, and then the wheels to rotate ect.. I do advise to not take this challenge on at this time gringo. But who am I to tell ya what to-do ;)
EDIT: if you really want to get a head start on it though, ask BoltyBoy if you can have the map he started on, he got a train moving quite nicly, with carridges ect.
Yeah, I guess I shouldn't sound so sure I can do it. I sent Bolty an email, maybe he'll offer to send the file to me. Yeah, it certainly won't be easy. It would be easy to make it just go around in a perfect circle, on level ground. But that's not very realistic. If Bolty had probs with the train, I guess I should be concerned. When battlecreek is finished, I'll work on a simple mock up of it and send it to you.
I'd be really interested in seeing an example of the train as well. I need a simple one for part of my map.
My first attempt won't look so much look like a train, as it will move like one. If I can't make it move realistically, I won't build a detailed one. Did I know you were working on a map? Sorry, too burnt out at the moment. It's good to hear. What's the premise?
Hey Gringo, Can you post some pics of your map?
I was thinking about it, but my time is better spent finishing it (plus I don't have webspace). I'm going to send the beta map to Hewster this weekend.
