I have both a client and server question: I have been playing wild west for about a week or so and then I had to Wipe my machine because of some spyware that had been install on my machine. Since that time I've never been able to log into any server to play and its getting really frustrating. When I reinstalled RTCW I put in the following packages:
- wolf_update_1_3.exe
- Wolf_Update_131_full.exe
- Wolf_Update_133.exe
- Wolf_Update_1_41.exe
- GOTY_MapPack.exe
- TheWildWest1.5.exe
Once I have installed all of that, I set the game up as I normally do and then try to connect to the Wild West Servers that are out there and I get the Following Response:
- Invalid_Key
I have constantly tried to keep resupliying my key but nothing will take and I can't seem to get past that error message to play. Does anyone know how to fix this? The server question that I have is a little more simple. I wouldn't mind turning my machine into a server because I have all the networking qualifiers for it but my question is this, does anyone know of a firewall for Windows 2000 Server that is good that I don't have to buy? Also, If I let my machine run in the evening so that others can play is there a way to setup bots like Quake 3?
Try this thread to see if you can get rid of the CD key error:
http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=11718&highlight=hewster I have our beta test server running on Windows 2000 Server, but I am using my router as a hardware firewall. You might try ZoneAlarm, but you will need to open the 27960 port and have someone test it with you to make sure they can connect. As far as I know, you cannot use bots in WildWest. Ignacio
Pardon my language but HOT D$%* IT WORKED!! I was getting sick of reverting back to Q3 Wild West but I was stuck....
Yeah, were pretty much in the same boat for server setup. I have a router that is pretty much all or nothing for the firewall.... Its a shame that there is no option for bots but that would explain the large amount of empty servers that there are out there....So I don't think that there is any point in putting one more out there.... If I were to start a server.........I would want it to be used.......
I love it when a plan comes together!!
See you on the servers. Iggy
SWEEET!
Welcome Alberta!
I hate to say it........but I think that its worth its a follow up but this is a really big problem and it takes a bit more problem solving then what you left me with.....
Not only is it a good idea to kill both rtcw files but I've found that the rctw.log will keep you out as well. I've tried what you told me and came back hours later and it didn't work. Well, I went through the proceedures again and killed the rtcw and ww/rtcw files and it wouldn't work until I killed the log..... It makes me wonder how long it takes for that log to refresh.......nevertheless, it sounds like someone @ ID needs to make coding changes.....
That log file should have nothing to do with it, and you are the first person who has mentioned it. I have had the key problem myself, but have never had to delete any other files. What prompted you to try deleting this file? Can you confirm that you only have 1 rtcwkey file on your machine, and that it is only in the Main directory, not in any mod directory, meaning no key file in the WildWest directory? Did you make the key file read only once you successfully joined a server?

I pity the fool, who makes fun of Ignacio. ;)
Yes, I did make sure to check that there was only one rtcw file and it was read only and it was corrected (by corrected, I mean that it leaves out 2 of the last digits in the key).
