Except of course XP needs a more powerful computer. But yea, its much more stable then 98. I've only got a blue screen of death twice since I got it and I think thats because of other software.

i now this might be off, but Try ME, its the upgrade form 98.

Here is the "gaming" platform upgrade flow

Win 3.11 > Win 95 > Win 98 > Win ME

This is the stable system flow

Win 3.11 > Win NT 2 > Win NT 3 > Win NT 4 > Win 2000 > Win XP > Then Windows "Foghorn" Corrently in development

The Stable systems work with 60% of the games, but more of the funner games work on the "gaming" platorms, so i would sya, give ME a try

Oh my god no! Bu Fu, you obviously don't know ME's reputation, its often called Many Errors, its full of security holes and is far more unstable then 98.

Windows ME was a quick job, done as a stop gap for XP. It is basically 98 with some new features slaped on that seemingly make is unstable.

Yea, some people have had problems with XP. It is full of security holes like Windows Tradition. But it way more stable. My windows ME crashed several times a day. My XP crashes several times a year

Microsoft abandoned the "home platform", Windows ME was the last, why do you think that was? They tried to get as much cash out of it as they could before the abandoned its crappy code.

Do some research man, Since ME was released your the first person i've seen thats said any good about it.

For XP, i've had no problems with games.

Well i have used win95, win98,winNT 4 server, WinNT 4 workstation, win98se, win2000, win2000 server, win 2000 adv server, winme and win XP and i can say they are all crap :) Also used/using Redhat 8.0, SuSe 8.1, IPcop 1.1 wished Linux had better game support...

though this latest XP install on this new machine is going ok, only reason for that is it don't have any creative crap software installed...Dumped the sb live player and XP seems stable now where as before i had freezes every day sometimes 2x a day...Though i do leave this PC on 24/7..

Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1 (5.1 - 2600) Uptime:1w 2d 3h 9m 30s Record uptime:1wk 2days 3hrs 6mins 55secs(Set on 12/01/03 using XP)\ Memory Usage:Usage: 214/512MB (41.80%) Display Info:1024x768 32bit 85Hz Monitor: /SyncMaster 753s CPU Info: /1-AMD , 1804MHz, 256KB (12% Load) Temperature: 45c Connection/Network Interfaces: /#1 (NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter (100Mb/s) 998.10MB In, 1116.64MB Out) #2(VMware V

thats the best i have had from XP to date, but next to my other box it's bad Linux box =Current Uptime 89 days, 22:45:17 Sun Jan 12 14:47:40 2003 don't think any windows box will do 89 days without killing it's self..

To answer your question use winXP pro

Well it was my understanding that the reason M$ dumped ME was not because it was crap (and it may have been but that doesn't make any difference at all - 90% of the home user population had to use it anyway cause it was sold with new PC's) but because it was too expensive to continue to develop and support multiple non-compatible operating systems.

Now they have Windows XP Home and Pro. All they do is develop Pro and remove a few features, mark it down to half the price, then call it Home. Imagine how much money that saves them not having a team working on ME etc and a team working on NT etc. Wonderful, they still get the same amount of money, it costs them less (probably half as much), and everybody thinks they're the good guys cause they finally release a stable home computer OS.

And then, to top it all off, they bag Linux as being too expensive to run, dangerous (cause it's free, how hypocritical is that), and that it will stifle the development of new and innovative software (presumably meaning Windows Foghorn {sic}).

You just gotta laugh

have fun all

this is a great thread aye? Thanks for starting it jazz
