Subject pretty much says it all: anyone use TeamSpeak or similar?

I have a headset with mic, what do I have to do to be able to talk within a game of BF?

Battlefield doesnt have a built in communication system. I use Teamspeak...it comes in handy. :)

Hi fragbait_newboy,

I use teamspeak when I play with my clan. The main problems with teamspeak and others is bandwidth, don't bother with it if you use a dialup modem. The bandwidth of the server (if you are hosting a server on a private line it chews up lot's of bandwidth so you need a really fast connection) and the location of the teamspeak server. There is a perceptible lag if you teamspeak server is a long way away (up to 3 seconds if it is overseas) otherwise I have had no problems with it. Oh, and do NOT use the "Voice Activation" option, use the "Push to Speak" system.

Have fun

So what are the mechanics involved? Do all the team-members have to be on the same TS server etc And how do you tie it into BF. I guess it runs in the background, and not part of BF itself, right?

That's basically correct. Also teamspeak servers have many channels, most Clans have their own channels otherwise they wouldn't be able to talk to eachother without other ppl not in the game interfering. And yes, teamspeak is a seperate application. We usually all join our teamspeak channel about 15 mins before the game to sort out any last minute tactic changes.

Have fun

Should I try and get my headset working, or just use a mic and the computer sepakers? The headset was bought for use with my voice-modem and the software my old comany made (use your PC as answering machine etc.)

Also, is TS better than Roger Wilco? Which do you prefer?

TS > roger wilco. i wish BF had a built in communication system...one button for talking to your team and one for the whole room

arguments about which voice com software is best can go on forever. it just comes down to what works best for you and you like. in my clan we've used rw, ts 1, ts 2, bc, gv, and we currenlty prefer ventrillo.

preference here just comes down to what works best for you and your mates.

fragbait, get a headset. otherwise you can have feedback problems which will irritate and interfere with those you speak. also, if you use 'voice activated' you'll be givin horrendous feedback.

btw, there is nothing wrong with using 'voice activation'. i think pretty much everyone in my clan uses it with no problems. you just have to adjust the sensitivity and mic position so it doesn't pick up key clicks and breathing.
