Anybody recommend the best Operating System for BF, I use Win2k personally but wondered if 98se or Xp would make any improvements...?

well it all depends on your system memory
I would say:
win98:128 megs pf ram 800 mhz prosessor 20 g hard drive
win2k: 254 megs of ram 1ghz prosessor 20 g hard drive
winxp:512 megs of ram 1.6 prosessor 40 g 7400 rpms hard drive
i like xp because its very stable , but it drains a lot of memory so even at 512 it uses some paging file memory ..
512 pc 133 + Athlon XP 2000. May go for the xp home then..
Slightly cooler than a n00b

Im running win98, np here at all
how fps do you get and how much ram Killet..??
fps is based mostly in video card and sound card (the last only on battlefield ) and in procesor , it has nothign to do with the OS , so i think , can anybody prove me wrong ?
this are my specs:win xp , p4 1.6 , 512 megs , 80 gb hard drive 7400 rpms , nvidia g.force 2 mx 64 megs , and soundblaster audigy 2 plat.and i currently run an average of 35-40 fps in this game and 70-100 on CS
I would die without GF

Win XP Pro 256 Mb DDR ram Gf4 MX440 Athlon XP 2000+ 70 fps.
I got better performance in ME, however as some have said ram is more important for win XP. Also Win XP desktop with all visual effects on max uses DirectX and will chew some vid card performance.
If you have a decent vid card you should have no probs with XP.
:cya: :cya: :cya:
yeah but you have a gf4 and i have a gf2 , anyways whats important for fps is video card .. i'm just done tweaking my video settings , and with a little less than good graphics settings i got 40-70 fps on my gf 2 :)
The Internet ends at GF

well since we're talking about this...my specs are this:
AMD athlon 1.4 ghz 768 ddrram ATI Radeon 9000 pro (128 megs) SoundBlaster Audigy gamer Win ME
Now I run the game at 1024 x 768 x 32 with SMOOTHVISION on (anti-aliasing), the text in game is a little distorted but I can still read about 95% of it and the graphics look extremely nice and I haven't checked my framerate but it's real smooth. My problem is...in big games..like 50+ people...the game will get choppy when there's a lot of stuff happening but as soon as it dies down it runs real smooth again....is this video or sound related? I have 44 khz sounds..high quality, so if it's sound related...what would be the best sound setup? Also...after I installed the 1.2 patch...the sound seems to stutter once in a while and cause the game to freeze up for a couple seconds..I dont know what's causing this..but when you're flying a plane and it happens, after the stutter..I usually find myself smashed into a hillside, so it's getting frustrating. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks :cya:
I don't spend enough time here

This game has a huge problem with sound. If you lower your sound settings the game should run fine, but it will sound craptastical. I run a 2.0, 512MB,gf2,onboard sound, xp pro, and I get 60-80 fps at 1024x728. But the sound sounds like crap. I wish EA would fix this problem, or I might have to shell out a couple bucks for an Audigy 2.
