[COLOR=gold]Is BattleField 1942 a game that you can make a sequel to? I really don't think so... You could make something similar, such as BattleField: Vietnam, or something along those lines, but that could be accomplished as an addon.... The only reason to make another would be to introduce a radically new engine, or something like that. Because you can only modify a game so far before the initial engine just says no...
What I would like to see, is dice to make a new Refractor engine, and a game based in the American Civil war, or something similar in that technology era. Imagine riding horses in the battlefield, primitive guns, and the use of swords, bombard cannons. Or how about going even further back, Midieval times!!! Huge Catapaults, horses(agian) and LongSwordman, archers, and PikeMan. Now that would be fun, sieging a castle, arrows raining down on you, riding your horse across the bridge, hot tar pour around you. That would be sweet!!!!
BattleField 2042? I don't think it would be fun headed into the future, although DC is fun to play, and Galactic battlegrounds(?) looks fun, we have to many futurisic games to choose from, and a lot of them are very good.
But before anything, i think they should FINISH this game!!!![/color]
[COLOR=burlywood]The medieval idea has some merit. If you implemented something like the JKII dueling style to the sword combat, it'd be incredible. Imagine having a 20 on 20 battle across an open field and the JKII level of sword (saber) combat. Otherwise it'd just be a button masher with no real skill in it. And the thought of storming a castle amidst catapult bombardments and arrows, then fighting the knights inside, that'd be top stuff. :thumbsup:
Civil war & Revolutionary War - People don't seem to realize how badly those two are likely to translate. War mostly consisted of people behind the 'lines' firing cannons- stationary, then columns of infantry simply marching toward the other column of infantry, stopping, firing, and sitting there while one row of people died after the next until someone won. Sure there were the battles where you'd fire, that' be it for your ammo, and then everyone would run melee style at their enemy, trying to kill with bayonets, knives, swords, but I don't think that would be much of a game in itself. Plus the weapons were too inaccurate at long range. All the game would probably end up being is Quake in Civil War clothing and that's pretty weak. To do it even remotely historically accurate (like BF, MoH or RtCW) would in all likelihood rob the game of any real fun factor.
Futuristic game has potential, but right now it just seems like it'd end up as a rather cheesy installment, to me that is. Still wouldn't mind seeing one. :D
Last thing I want is a NEW refractor engine. I think this one has problems enough to keep DICE busy for a while. Once the Refractor II gets stabilized and mainstream, it could be the next Quake III engine, who knows.
But before anything, i think they should FINISH this game!!!!

i would like to see the rest of the game finished and if the engine could not handle the addon's then a more inhanced version made. They have so much more that can be added to this game and even if they added all they can add they can start to make mulitiple armys verse the others like (GERMANS VS AMERICANS AND BRITISH) figure a way to play more then 64 players on a server with out the loss of the low ping rates. If they stick to the war ideas for games i think the people will play them over other games that are based on fiction.

I hope a futuristic expansion or mod comes out or even a new game like battlefield. I can see it now, flying through space in a high speed space fighter watching people duke it out with huge ships, trying to capture a small control point on an asteroid. I think that would be great.

Anyway, I'd like a sort of "Ages of Battlefields" game (which Is kinda like that empire earth idea) where you start out very primitive in the stone age and then if you capture certain points or do certain things and gain new technolegy you could get better weapons like clubs turn to spears, spears turn to swords and bows, then swords and bows turn to muskets, muskets turn to WW1 weaponry, WW1 to WW2 Weaponry, then modern weaponry, then advanced weaponry, then more advanced, then alien weaponry. I just think that would be awesome. And of course you could set up things to be always one age or never passed a certain age etc.

Could you imagine not just Omaha beach but Omaha, Utah Gold and Juno? With the allied ships being movable so that you could move attack troops to the weakest defended beach. The AXIS would have panzer division in reserve that could move to defend an area as the allies break through, and allied paratroopers dropping in behind the lines etc to capture rear points. Each attack or defense group could be run by one clan that specialises in that activity. Like a navy clan to run the ships and shell the shore, a tank clan to man the AXIS Panzer division, another aerial clan to do the bombing and partrooper clans to attack from the rear. The commander could guide the bombers to the area where they were most needed, also the paratroopers (if they don't get lost that is). That'd be great.
So yes, I think a sequel is on the cards, but everybody needs better puters, faster cable (or fibre to the home) etc, so it will be a few years before a major upgrade like that comes along. I am looking forward to it.

That does sound fun apocalypse_kid, but we have to think reality here... Ppl won't follow instructions, you would need a very organized broup of ppl to follow commands like that, it would be nice in large-scale clan warfare. As far as sword play, I have never played JK2, but one game I did play, and was impressed with, was Rune. We could use a similar sword engine, just less gore(to keep with thier trend for bloodless play).
We could have similar Classes too:
Archer: (sniper) has a bow, can shoot arrows(duh?) Swordsman: (assault) Has a longsword, maybe a shield PoleArmsman: (anti-tank) Very good agianst units on Horseback, almost usless agianst any other unit Cleric: (Medic) Has a Mace, can heal ppl Mage: (Engineer) Can cast spells, a few offensive, but mostly they just give +/- to a group of ppl in a area(i.e. Magical protection on your teammates) plus, you get hit with anything, and your dead...lol
this would be fun, have the arrow engine like that of Thief/Thief 2
ohhh.. and instead of mounted Machine guns, you could have a line of archers(bots) that don't fire until directed, you move a targeting cursor, and they fire, but only when someone has taken control of them...
Instead of tanks, have Elephants!!!! Sit in a little box on top and direct a group of Archer Bots to fire(like example above)
