Hi BERZERKER,

I have a new gateway and its great but they gave me a bad graphix card some kind of intel.

I hate companies like Gateway and DELL (and not forgetting IBM), not for what they are but for what they don't tell ppl when you buy a puter off them. If it's Intel it is probably built into the motherboard - an i815 or something.

The first thing you need to do - the very first thing mind you - is to open your box and make sure you actually have an AGP port to plug a new vid card into. Many Mobo's with onboard graphics don't actally have expansion slots.

If you establish that you do have a slot, and do get loads of money, go out and buy either a Geforce 4600Ti or a Radeon 9700, cause while the FX has been announced there is actually no silicon out for it yet, so there's no telling when it will appear. And when it does appear it will probably be $500 US and up, whereas you can get a decent radeon or Gf4 for much less than that and get well over 100fps.

Have fun and if you have any questions I will be around to answer them.

you can upgrade if you disable the onboard vid card. but you cant upgrade to an agp card. fortunately there are pci geforce 4 vid cards out there.

well that depends. Some boards with onboard vid also have AGP slots for upgrade, like the gigabyte GA7-VKML for instance, if he has a AGP slot he can then disable the onboard and use a seperate card.

God luck BERZERKER

I run BF1942 on a P4/2000, Geforce4600TI, 512MB, 52xLG-CDROM Also I installed the latest drivers. The game run smooth at maximum resolution with maximum details.

But the intro stops every 2 seconds for a few milliseconds and then continous. Is this a problem with the CD-Rom drive ? The intro is not really important, but I spend enough money for this machine to get things going.

Hi BERZERKER,

PCI vid cards really suck, even the best. I know you can get Nvidia PCI cards but they cost heaps more than the AGP ones with the same chipset.

If you have $400-500 spare (US dollars) you may be able to replace your mobo with a decent and still have enough money left over for a GF4200ti or even 4400ti. It sucks that you got stuck with a crap mother board and vid card combo.

As to your other Q. I have played on a few servers with other ppl from the forums - mainly vibratindonkeyhead and meatandtwoveg - but just luck - a few ppl here do try and organise games so just keep an eye on the "BF1942 general" section of the forum.
