I've been playing this game for a couple of weeks, and I was wondering if some of you veterans can help me out. I have the blood mod installed, and I often find that I can hit an opposing player several (3-4) times without them dying (I see that I'm hitting him because of the blood mod). They turn around and pop me once or twice and I'm dead. Same thing has happened with tanks. I can put 3 rounds into an opponent's tank. He fires one round and I'm dead. Someone told me that it's probably because of lag, so I set my video down to 1024x768x16 colors, turned down all of the graphics options, etc. I have a 1.6G machine, 256M RAM, GeForce2, and cable modem connection. Any ideas? I've never seen anything like this playing OFP. Thanks!
Well about the guys poppin you... try aiming for there heads... should kill them in 1 hit... and try to duk or to lay down... it'll increase your accuracy.... (you can see this on the crossair: how bigger the less accurate)
About the tank ... the SIDE and the REAR of a tank ware weaker then the front which is strong... so try aiming for the side and the rear... another thing is the angle of impact... if u hit them in a 90 degrees angle (straight) it'll do them more damage then when you shoot them from an lower angle (like 45 degrees or something) Same counts for Bazooka's
Maybe you have lag but lowering video options won't help the lag...it depends on the connection and the server... and having a cablemodem doesn't say ur quick (i can know :( :( :( )..
ok, so maybe they are the ones that are popping me in the head and that's the difference. The tanks are another story though. The last battle I was in I was facing the other tank's side, and popped him with 2 rounds. He turned so we were head to head, fired one round and I was done.

The guy might have been in a german 'tiger' tank, they seem to be a bit tougher than the other tanks are. They are also slower moving and have a slower fire rate.

I have a post on this same subject. The only thing I can figure is that it is our 56k modem. This problem is the reason I'm playing single player until the 1.2 patch comes out. It's supposed to help a little.
Pappy is right... you have different kind of tanks... you have strong tanks (1 person) and you have weaker tanks (they have a mounted machinegun on top, 2 persons)... But it still is stange... you aren't supposed to explode from 1 hit head on... or maybe it's just me... cos i haven't got the retail so i only saw tigers in the SP demo... but maybe they changed some things after it...

1 hit from head-on is not suppose to blow you up....but it is "possible" :)
If you have a 56K i would'nt bother playing....(As Tiger Shark said) i mean i have Cable 600 Down 128 Up and i get lag to very close servers to me!!! still....thats not right...the 1.2 patch "should" (dont hope on it though) be better......im not sure if they are sorting the netcode out though...problably not...there was no meantion in the list of updates..
Also your get better at the game anyway....start using more skill etc...;) too be honest i prefer being on foot then tanks etc.... i find i can blow a tank up with 2 grenades sometimes :):)
Here's another example. Last night I spawn as a GI anti-tank guy. I run around and find a German tank in the Bulge scenario. I run up to it's rear, and put all 4 bazooka rounds into it from point blank range. It doesn't die. Later in the same game, I spawn as a German, and climb into the same type of tank. A GI comes up to me with a bazooka, fires one round at the FRONT of my tank, which should be more heavily armored, and I'm dead. What gives??

I sometimes have the same experience. I have put 6 shells into a tank once and he still got me. One trick is to have an engineer standing behind your tank repairing it while you fire. Another thing is, it matters where, even on the front, where you hit the tank. The turret is more vulnerable than lower down (to protect the driver real tanks are built this way). Also which tank - ie the british M10 Wolverine is designed as an anti-tank tank, one hit in the rear will (should) take out just about any other tank - maybe several from the front.
The problem many of us have with the tanks is simply part of the game also. Tanks (except in large tank to tank battles as in the russia/germany battles) need to be backed up by footsoldiers, otherwise they will be quickly wiped by opposing forces surrounding them with grenades ands bazookas. Also air power matters. The other day I was playing and was head to head with a panzer (fun aint it) firing shots and he fired at me once and I died, really cheesed off, until I checked who killed me that is. It was actually a Yak-9 flying over head that got me, so always check who kills you, it may actually be that damn anti-tank footsoldier who snuck up behind you while you were facing the other tank. This is why tanks should advance as part of a team, footsoldiers to protect the rear while the tank distracts enemy heavy armour and large groups of footsoldiers.
