I'm only on a 3 speaker set up, so the headphones help. Finally tried TS during a game last night. Is cool, especially when you can hear the other guy getting shot at throught he headset :)
I plugged in my nice pair of huge headphones ($250) and I played Battlefield 1942. I notice things sounded louder and closer to my ears, a nice effect. But I don't see a big diffrence, I have my computer sound running to my stereo and I really don't notice that big of a diffrence. I can still hear the tanks coming from the right side, still hearing planes and bullets wizz off from diffrent channels.
MP gaming with headphones is the only way to go!
RebornggSeems like most of ya like the headphones heh? does it still produce the surround ok tho? i like having the speakers all round me, does headphones give that same effect?
IMO MP gaming with headphones is a must, you hear footsteps better and other world noises alerting you of enemys near. Yes you still have surround sound, but it's right in your ear now. Night and day difference to me. I thnk you will hear MORE sounds with phones on. Single player gaming is where a nice 5.1 speaker system shines. When you are competing online, you want to know where your enemy is at all times, and if he's sneaking up near ya. SOF2 with headphones rules :) get a good set of Sony or AIWA headphones and try it.
just my opinions
I've used the KOSS TD-61 large phones($60) for a year now and think it's great. I have Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) so bad it's about all I can use..... BUT, I just bought a new 7.1 speaker system Creative Labs, and will give it a shot, but my headphones will probably be my favorite. Yup yup.... sound is everything.
Yes the headphone-close quality of sound does have it advantages, even with my external set-up of 7 speakers at my disposal, I still like the headphones for online play.
