Hello. I am 10 years old, and I like bf1942. My dad let me register to these forums, like he always does. I play BF1942, MOHAA, and JK2. I really like this game because of the huge enviorments, and the awesome graphics. And it is somewhat CRASHING on me on my other computer right now, trying to join a UK server...might be because I'm in the USA, I don't know. I've been having trouble playing it, I have a 1.7 ghz comp pentium 4, with a geforce 4 mx 440 video card. People have told me it should work, and I belie--Oh god, it just started working. Yay. :cya: :D I think I shall go play. Can anyone offer some tips? It crashes often... :(

Thanks! me >> << bf 1942 LOL! :frog:

Hi tcd12642,

Understand I don't mean any offense by this, but if yours is a typical young persons computer (and I see a lot cause I repair PC's) then you probably have heaps of stuff running in the background all the time.

The sort of stuff I mean is; MSN Messenger, Yahoo Communicator, Realplayer, Kazaa, Gator, Comet Cursors, even (shudder) Bonzi Buddy, etc. If you are running win 95/98/ME just press CTRL/ALT/DEL simultaneously and it will give you a list of running programs (it's a bit more complicated with XP). If there are more than about 5 items there then you need to do some serious housekeeping. Basically any software that's running in the background can and will eventually cause conflicts with other software. Also get a program called ad-aware from here and run it to clean out spyware.

Once you have shut everything down and cleaned out the spyware you should find this helps with game stability.

Hope this helps

Oh yes, and welcome to the forums.

Nice to meet ya .. welcome to the forum ..If you need further assistance. there is a lot of Posts that will help, with questions regarding Lag, sound cards and what ever the problem is ..Cause being here in the forum I've seen a lot of people out there having alot of difficulty with running battlefield,Including myself, and I have found alot of fixes. And usually the cause was vid cards or the settings for sound cards or memory. depending on what your setup is on your puter .. Anyway, Welcome aboard..

Haha, in answer to post number 2, ya, I used to: I just reinstalled SOOOOO much crud on my computer, eg: Trillian, 3d studio max, (dad showed it to me a few times...didn't use it at all, lol) ... And a few other programs. But, I always shut down MSN messenger. AIM doesn't come up on start-up... I only have two programs running: windows update, and the little speaker thing running on my taskbar. Well, thanks for being nice to the young one! :) A lot of peeps dun believe me in the actual online game...I usually just talk them into believing me by saying "Hi, asl all? im 10 dad got me dis game" Lol... :uhm: Well, thanks for the nice intruduction!

Hi again tcd12642,

The little speaker thing on the taskbar is normal and can be turned on or off using the sound settings in the control panel. I don't whether windows update will affect bf1942, I don't run it myself, although if it pops up with it's little message that there are updates available while you are in the middle of a game I suppose it could cause probs.

Now what about the programs that are running that don't show. Run a program called MSCONFIG (go to START/RUN type in msconfig). In the program there will be a tab called startup, all the programs there start up with windows, you may be surprised at the number that do start automatically, and quite often ppl don't have a clue about what they do. If you see something there that you don't recognise let me know what it is and I will hunt down the info for you.

Have fun
