From someone who has owned amd's since the K-5 series, and a father that has owned pentium. The competition is in my family, and from 12 years of computing, the amd has yet to fail me. Even now my father has given his pentium to his wife and got an amd athlon xp 2600+. He has not complained yet.So in short go with the AMD!!!!
monitors are cheap, 17" really cheap and 19"crt not too high because they arent lcds. ANd the AMD is a cheaper better processor. JUST GET THE AMD not the monitor, you can get a monitor 19"crt cheap, tigerdirect.com, etc etc:deal:
All I have to say is don't get a system with RDRAM. It's way to expensive, you have to buy and install it in pairs.
i got the athlon 2600+
My P4 1.6Ghz runs as smooth as silk.
But, some people like Fords, some people like Chevrolets.
It's all personal preference. Benchtesting is cute, but the performance difference between the two are negoitable and hardly noticable unless you're crunching massive amounts of numbers. Go with what's cheapest and most affordable to you and yours.
go with the 2600, comrade.
