I've been playing this game for months now, and was using 1.31 with NO LAG whatsoever. I upgraded to 1.4 and now I get lag or choppiness all over the place. My system is:

1.6MHz 512MB RAM Win XP GeForce2 64MB cable modem

My ping to the various servers is usually 30-50. As I said, I've never had any lag until going to 1.4. When I upgraded, I immediately noticed it, especially when flying. I know my video card is old, so I upgraded to an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. The problem still remains. I have the sound configured as hardware accelerated. I noticed that if I drop it down, the problems get a little worse, not better. I've tried reducing some of the video and audio options as well. Nothing helps. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions??

well, an easy way to find out if its your sounds is just disable it completely and check it out... another thing is if you were playing on a specific server, it may have been server lag (even if your ping is low, the server doesnt have the CPU cycles to keep you runnin smooth).

Most importantly, the reason its not doing well, is the fact you have a 1.6MHz processor... My calculator is faster then that =) lol

try lowering the sound settings to 22 khz. also a good disc cleanup and defragment always helps.

you might want to invent in a sound card, cause onboard sound tends to make the game run slower....where as a sound card like a sb live 5.1 helps quite a bit, and you get better sound. i tried it on my system and the sound card made quite a difference.

i have a 9500 pro as well, same setup as you except for processing power and a sound card, and i can run any map at anytime on the highest setting without a problem. so just tinker some more and hopefully you'll get it....good luck!

Actually I have tried various sound options, except for disabling, so I'll try that next. It happens on every server, not just any particular one. And no, there's no way I'm buying a faster PC because of this :) Like I said, it worked great until 1.4 came along...

Well I too noticed it today when upgrading. I have not played in some time, and just upgraded everything to the latest ver, including Desert Combat. Now I have a Fat pipe with major bandwidth, and never get lag. I played on a server today, that I pinged 30 to. In the game it showed 30 as well. At first I thought it might have been video lag, as my ping stated it was very low. ( see my post on command to check FPS ). I have a p4 Northwood 1.8a running at 2.13. 128 meg DDR Gf3 Running at ti-500 speeds, Gainward Golden Sample. With Win2k SP3. 512 megs DDR Samsung, This game has alway run like a champ on my system. So as I said it has been a long time playing, but it is just chugging along like the little engine that thought he could playing this, I though it might have been vid till I checked this thread. Best way to be sure for me, is if I could remember how to check my FPS, and see where there at.

I've noticed a few performace problems with the new version but whats really changed is the loading times. It takes bloody forever to load a map now. Ive heard peeps having the same probs with olders vers but not me, only now, in the new patch has things become annoyingly slow. It seems to cause my 1.5ghz to grind to a halt, it started when the sound (playing in the background on loading screens) was strugling.

Ack, dammnit what have they done ?? lol :p
