Download Virtual Dub. That'll let u compress the .avi's into smaller formats. It even says so on the fraps web page.

Hi Cykotic,

The files created by FRAPS are UNCOMPRESSED as compared to your normal AVI compression ratio of anything up to 30:1, that's why it's so big, most vid editing programs will let you compress your video. Even Windows Movie maker will do it, I just don't know if it will handle a 2 Gb file though, but I know it works on smaller files like 200Mb.

The reason why FRAPS does it like that is cause compressing the frames takes heaps of CPU time, and if it tried to do it on the fly while you were playing it would kill your game, so it saves them as quickly as possible in uncompressed format. BTW this is all explained in the FRAPS readme, but who reads reame's aye?

have fun

That's not true mekimirme, FRAPS lags so much cause you are simply trying to do too much on a machine that can't handle it. Mine runs it reasonably well, but when I get my Athlon 64 later this year it will be smooth as butter!

ALso if you ant ot do it reasonably cheap just get yourself a video out card and capture your footage to another computer or video recorder then bring it back in either using a capture card or simply across the network if you are using another computer. That's how most of the good high res movies are made.

have fun
