I’ve collected a bunch of tips and tactics on a new web page, at http://www.acm.org/tog/editors/erich/1942/tips.html. These are culled from forums and my own experience.
Enjoy, and please do contribute your own,
its cool but you cant sink an enemy ship by placing exppacks on the deck ...
long but i think it should be called the newbie guide and etiquete of bf 1942 ,, incomplete though they dont mention any strategies on how to drive the submarine/ships :(
The Internet ends at GF

Thanks erich. I will be sure to look over it when I get a chance and add anything I can.

Hmmm, is that true about ex packs not working against ships?
On the tips page I have a link to my FAQ page, right at the beginning. On this page, http://www.acm.org/tog/editors/erich/1942/faq.html, it discusses using subs. Not sure what's hard about driving ships - could you elaborate?

i'm talking about advanced maneuvers on how drive the submarine/ ships .
for example tactics on what to do when you have been spoted by enemy destroyer and you're in a sub , or what to do when you're in a battle ship and are completaly defensless against a sub etc , thats somethign that should be covered in depth (no pun intened)
here is my 2 cents should you want to include it on your list
tactics on using submarine :
how many times have you seen somebody dying to jump on submirne just to die out of n00bness by going to deep not deep enough ?? here are the tips from captain Venom:
1:when round starts do not submerge go on the surfarce and submerge only when you hear the first enemy plane fly by or when you see an enemy ship .
2:submirnes are tricky to conceal compleatly from the human eye , if you dont sink enough your submirne would be plenty visible to planes/ships ., to conseal get to the dept just on the green area of your depth meter and press "F10" to see your submarine on a outside view try to get as deep so only the tip of the antennae shows if you go too deep you wont be able to see your sub in the third person view so use that as a guide (american subs have deiferent kind of periscope and can go a little lower than japanese.
3: you can sink battleships, and carriers without any risk of getting sanked as long as your submerged so if you see one get close enough without being seen (but not too close read #4 for info)and blast him with torpedos he is likely to run away/ask for asistance for a destroyer so hurry and kill and get the hell out of the area :lookaround:
4:if you're too close to an enemy ship and you're submerged your torpedoes would go right under the enemy ship so practice in a closed game and see the range that you can shoot a torpedo .
5:even though a risky maneuver and a low tactic you can spawn camp the enemy base and just sink everything that spawns , that way you'll keep it clean for your fellow team mates to take the flags .
6:expect people to retaliate when you sink them in a battle ship , they would more surely jump in a destroyer or plane and go hunting for you , be prepared
7:this is the most important , a suvirval guide on how to fightback/livetrough destroyer attack
when a destroyer has spoted you , you will hear a sonar "bip" usualy when you hear the first beep they are still fairly far away and it takes them at least 4 more seconds to look at their map and cleanly spot were you are ,
you will be hunted .. trust me there can be another 5 ships and they will go after you so this is what you do
after first beep use adventage of the 4 seconds you have before being spoted .. you have this a fraction of a second to decide what you want to do ..
#1 you decide to fight back: very risky and should be atempted only if you have full health , you're facing the destroyer and/or you see that the destroyer is badly damaged already , sinking a adestroyer with front torpedo blast takes usualy 8 torpedoes so its going to be though with a undamaged ship, so first thing to do is hit full reverse and try to go in circles that way it would be hard for the destroyer to get on top of you , align your sub , do a little impact prediction and fight it off .. should the destroyer managem to get right above you do not sobmerge all the way emerge and try to hit him up close with the torpedos a few moer times if it gets to hairy get out of the sub and let him take the empty sub to naval heaven
#2 you decide to flee : well here is simple when you hear the first sonar reading do what the they used to do in real life , stop completaly submerge to right above the red depth and wait quietly the destroyer will lose the signal of you if you stop moving (i think this hasnt been confirmed yet but i the times i tried it worked )
if you really close to an island try to get the destroyer to go to shallow water and have him breach and get stucked this have worked a few times already ..
8:really good pilots can sink you with a torpade plane , even if you're submerged ,so keeps your eyes/ears open if you see a plane has started doing loops around you , more than likely you he is a good pilot trying to take you to his trophy room ., alse they are the biggest snitches and they will report your position to the rest of his team .. so dive way below your periscope level and let them get bored ,
9:when you sink an enemy ship sometimes the survivors will jump on landing crafts and would start anoying you tryign to run into your persicope (wich by the way it can damage you) and/or start reporting your position to the enemy , here just do the same thing travel compleatly submerged untill you hear them get bored and driving away .
10# keep your eyes open for enemy subs , they can hit you when you're submerged even up[ close and they are hard to spot so if you see a sub turn around and fight it back
well here is my list of tactics for the sub .. i hope you post it on your website ... :cya:
and no you cant sink a ship by placing any kind of bombs on deck .. its funny though one time i saw this dude trying to sink my submerged sub from a landing craft droping exp packs in the water
Venom400 - wow, that was definitely at least $0.13 or so! Nice tips, I've tried to fold them into the tips page, so go check it out. If I've goofed or left anything critical out, let me know. Some things I'll let the players figure out (like "wait for the survivors to leave"). Anyway, excellent additions - submarines are something I just never play, though now I want to give them a try.
i wish yopu had included everythign in my list :( but its cool i appreciate , i guess it would take a whole page to do it tought lol he he thanks ...
actually today i made an experiment with a friend of mine on a lan to see if submerging and stoping would stop the pings and it didnt work so you can take that off your tips ...
another thiing that i confirmed is that sound cards ion this game slows te action down .. after i got my sound card(audigy) my fps have improved big time .. and it doesnt lag on busy times at all , and i have a gf2 mx , so go figure...

Thanks for trying this out, and I've changed the tip page accordingly. I also confirmed that exp. packs indeed don't hurt ships at all.
The sound card upgrade is very interesting. My FAQ at http://www.acm.org/tog/editors/erich/1942/faq.html#j104 talks about sound card settings slowing things up, which I believe. It's good to know you can help fix this problem by upgrading the sound card.
