Actually the best thing to do if you are hesitant on practicing while on an active server,practice in single player this way you do not offend anyone and you are more relaxed and can get a feel for it a lot easier than when in an actual server game.Try the keyboard and then try a joystick.My preference went from keyboard to joystick and for me is a lot easier.

All good answers though I'd have to say Fifth Stooges suggestion about practicing in single player mode is the best option for noobs. Try adjusting your mouse and keyboard properties under options and see what works for you. Also, I like Nicks suggestion about re-mapping the "parachute key", the less your hands have to travel the more relaxed you'll be. I strictly use K/M though many people are better with a joystick, it's all up to you, practice and keep practicing.

Yeah, and he could always open a 1-man Local Area server to practice, if he gets easily pissed off because of the bots...
