When you're not zoomed in the scope and just holding the sniper rifle, do you think there should be a crosshair there like in Allied Assault? Personally I think yes. It gets very annoying when someone's charging me and I just wanna rifle him because I'm my pistol mag is empty. They have the crosshair for a sniper rifle in MOHAA and it really makes a difference. But many other games don't have it. BF1942, VC, CS. Wolf has it but the Sniper Rifle is inaccurate when shot without zooming in.
i guess there should be, but i see what EA is trying to get at, snipers didn't use them in close combat so they are trying to make it more realistic, in terms of ww2.:uhm:
i think they should have it.just for that close encounter
i dont think you should use you pistol and knife and for a sniper to be in close combat well thats just stupid.
A pistol is FAR more effective up close than the scout/engineer's rifles, believe me, I get good kills in distances with the rifle and far more good kills up close with the Colt/Lugar due to its faster rate of fire and similar damage rate.
If IRL you try shooting a rifle with a scope on (most likely a Springfield or Enfield or Mosin-Nagant), you'll see that you can't see through the ironsights due to the fact the scope is blocking it. There are a few rifles designed to have both the ironsight and scope usable (such as the Fallshirmjägergewehr 42).
I have seen in RTCW and MOH that there's a crosshair on sniper rifles, and that's expected on a Q3A based game. :)

but uhhh isent "BF1942" suposibly unrealistic? as alot of you people say.
It isn't simulator realistic, But pretty close,
Most of the time the scope wasn't even on the rifle, because it could be damaged easely, scratches on the lens, etc.
For CQ-combat a rifle is useless, But without the scope it does have medium range capabilaties, while with only long range.
But I would like to see an X-hair too.
Shoot from the hip.... it's challenging.
What if there's a guy in the NEAR distance and if you take out your scope it's too hard to hit? It'd be far easier to just shoot him with the rifle itself.
i definately dont think they should have crosshairs for the sniper. then it would be just like the engineer's rifle but with a scope. Sniping is allready made to easy and there are too many of em. I say no crosshair and on top of it i dont think they should let u look through the scope while moving except at a really slow speed (like in Day of Defeat the half-life mod). Its not specifically to make it more realistic which it does but more because the game would be more fun without so many snipers that can shoot and move and look through the scope and move. They just have too many advantages over the other classes.
