hello everybody , i just like to show you somethign very intersting i found out .

this are my system specs before

p4 1.6 512 sdram gf2 mx 64 megs , 80 hb harddrive 7400 rpms and onboard sound card , bellsouth DSL

well needless to say i couldnt play battlefield 1942 on anything else than 22khz and low quality sound for the game not to lag on me , even on 16 player games , and event then the game slowed down a lot during busy times , i told many people that i thought it was the sound card , and everybody told me to get a gf4 4600 ti instead , and they told me that unless i had surround sound speakers or i was in the recording busness , it would be a waste of money and time .

well i didnt listen to them , and i bought an soundblaster audigy 2 platunum and a 4.1 surround system , right after i brought the computer back home i was pissed because i couldnt open any game that required a cdrom to be in the computer while you play  after downloading a few drivers from SB website i was able to play and this is what i found :

battlefield 1942:with high qulity sound, high quality graphics and enabling hardware accelaration the game ran smooth as a baby's butt and the sound experience is needless to say breath taking , i think this game is the frist one that truly got me scared shiting one my pants when i heard an artillary shell fly right on top of me just to explode behind me (literaly) and hearign the dead cry from one of me fellos soldier behind me make me want to run for my mommy .

counter-strike: very cool surround effects , you can hear people shooting behind you and you can hear were are people comming from instead of angling your self to try to guess

to make the long story short , a good sound card with at the very least 4.1 surround sound its an expirence worth the 250 dollar investment , so if you have a gf2 and are planning to trow your money on a gf fx or gf4 think about the sound first , trust me its worth it ...

awesome, i was thinking the exact same, but instead of the platinum, i'm going to get the regular audigy 2. i was thinking of getting a 4.1 logitech z-560 speaker system also for christmas. thanks for the info ;), once i get the speakers, i'm gonna build a surround sound hanging thingys as seen at best buy, it's gonna be AWESOME

Don't get the Audigy 2!

Unless you have 6.1 speakers, get the SB Audigy Gamer and save yourself up to 50 bucks! It has 5.1 speaker capabilities...and not many people have that! Plus, there is no performance difference and I get up to 77fps on my SB Audigy Gamer!

I have an audigy gamer...but just a regular set of 2 speakers and a woofer...getting 5.1 speakers wouldn't help framerate at all would it? (man I feel stupid asking this)

I wouldnt think that just going to a five speaker setup would change anything as far as fps. Putting the quality settings in game and in windows higher would. I figure the sound card is doing the 3D thing to begin with no matter what speakers/headphones your using. I'm going to try the sound settings back to high detail again but I didnt really like all the extra sounds that it had the first time I tried it. I get 100+ fps so it's not the performance I'm worried about. 70fps is an achievement in this game. good job.

yeah but the audigy boundle comes with soldier of fortune 2 and hitman , full versions for free :) and a real expensive sound editiing software , and other cool features , so i think thats worth the 50 bucks , plus i think that if you're going to get something, just get the good stuff the first time , audigy its not just 6.1 , but it is a faster sound card enabling more realistic effects and taking load of the cpu , therefore giving you extra fps .. nothing wrong with the blaster live though , but i can afford to be buying things twice , so just in case i decide to get 6.1 i got the audigy 2

dude guys, i already know about the price and speakers/whatever. i have done a bit of research about the sound cards. i was first about to get the SB Live! but i found out it was 16bit, then i was going to get the audigy gamer for 99.99 but then i found an ad for the audigy 2 at Pc CLub, it was that instead of the usual price of 129.99, the discount would be 89.99. so i was for sure i am getting this sound card.

Better Quality. Better Price. Supports Electric Guitars(plugin) :stallard:
