Battlefield 1942:Secret weapons of war info:

EA AND DIGITAL ILLUSIONS ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT OF BATTLEFIELD 1942: SECRET WEAPONS OF WWII FOR THE PC

Award-Winning World War II Game Expansion Pack Ratchets Up Excitement With New Battlefields, Vehicles and Weapons

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 2, 2003 – Requesting reinforcements! There are new battles to be fought and won. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) and Digital Illusions today announced that development is underway on the latest expansion pack for the award-winning Battlefield 1942™ PC game series. Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, scheduled for release in fall 2003, will significantly enhance the multiplayer combat experience by bringing the most unique and deadly weapons from the German and Allied laboratories to life on the battlefields of World War II.

From classified, cutting edge weapons to secret forces and clandestine places, Secret Weapons of WWII, will add a new level of drama and excitement to the Battlefield 1942 experience. The expansion pack will feature many new vehicles and weapons that were extremely powerful, yet experimental. While these armaments and vehicles are rooted in World War II history, many never saw actual combat–until now.

In Secret Weapons of WWII, players will engage in war with a choice of up to 46 vehicles to control. In addition to the 30 vehicles introduced in the original game such as fighter planes, tanks, and aircraft carriers, players can operate16 new vehicles including the Horton HO 229 “Flying Wing” that is equipped with 30 mm machine guns and missiles. Other vehicles consist of a US Sherman tank with a T-34 Calliope rocket launcher, U.S. T95/T28 Super Heavy Tank, the Sturmtiger (naval gun mounted on Tiger tank), U.S. Goblin jetfighter, C-47 cargo plane that will serve as a mobile spawn point, the American Armstrong Whitworth AW-52 advanced fighter, the German Wasserfall guided anti-air missile and the German Natter rocket plane. Also, for the first time, Secret Weapons of WWII will give players the chance to fly and fight at the same time with a top secret German prototype Rocket Pack.

There will be seven new weapons including one-shot kill knives. Other weapons include the Bren light machine gun, Remington Auto 5 shotgun and the Mauser K98 grenade rifle. Players can put these weapons to use in eight fresh World War II combat campaigns including Peenemüende, a V2 research facility, and The Eagle’s Nest, ******’s hideaway. All new battlefields offer unique settings ranging from nightfall during the summer in Prague to a winter battle in Norway.

In addition to offering innovative weapons and vehicles, the game introduces British Commando and German Elite troops while enriching gameplay by adding a new “objective based” gameplay mode. In this new mode, players will be tasked with a specific objective such as destroying a secret facility in order to win the battle.

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII is being developed by Digital Illusions Canada, a subsidiary of the original Battlefield 1942 Sweden based developer, Digital Illusions. Electronic Arts will publish and distribute the game for the PC under the EA GAMES™ brand worldwide. The original Battlefield 1942 game is required to play Secret Weapons of WWII.

one thing,i will point out:

C-47 cargo plane that will serve as a mobile spawn point

it just doesn't get much better than that. This is gonna be cool. This thread is just to talk about this new game and what its gonna be like.Feel free to point out other stuff as I dont wanna hog it all! I know its long, but it is well worth the read!

If they take out all that "prototype, secret weapons" crap then I'd be excited but I doubt this is worth the 20 bucks.

The only things that sound remotely interesting are objectives, Eagle's Nest, more guns (ex: Bren), and C-47. Scrap the rest and just make it a REALISTIC game.

Remove the rocketpack. Prototype weapons that NEVER saw combat should NEVER see combat. 'Nuff said on that.

Besides I still haven't seen a fully realistic BF1942 yet anyway. The Japanese and Russians dont even have unique guns (they both have the MP18 as their medic's weapon, my favorite gun but still...). What we need is more realism. We need Garands and Carbines, K43s and FG42s, mobile MGs, and the Greasegun. And not to mention some damned Airborne missions! I mean ALL airborne, not just as an option. And I'd like some more big inner city fighting like maybe fighting through the ruins of Paris or some of the other cities the Allies liberated. Like that one city where it was raining in Saving Private Ryan. Or how about this: Battle of Britain. And we haven't even seen the Australians or New Zealanders yet (officially speaking). Pre-D-Day drops would be nice as well. And what about the freaking Springfield!?

Hell yeah Tallman that's EXACTLY how i feel! Airborne missions are a MUST. I'm tired of everyone spawning at Allied HQ in Market Garden so they can plane camp while I'm the one taking outposts!

You got the weapons right too. They need garands, grease guns, etc. They need some CQB maps like Paris. They need a good dog fighting map like the Battle of Britain. The Sinking of the Bismark would be perfect for naval warfare. Rainy maps would be nice too. The airborne maps would kick ass if everytime you respawn it's by jumping out of a C-47. FG-42s would be perfect weapons for German Airborne (since that was their official weapon)

I still say more realism less "what if" crap.

sgttallman and spidey,i agree with both of you.about the jatpacks, wats with That?? Even today in 2003 we dont have those. The c-47 looks promising.I hope they do more maps like sgttallman and spidey said, and the invasion of the japanese idea (theres a thread in the mapping forum about this idea)would ROCK if it was in this new game.We SERIOUSLY need full aireborne missions.

You can suggest things ALL you want but they'll never listen. They don't give a rat's ass what we want, they just wanna know how much $$$ we got so they can find new ways to scam us out of it.
