Now we have all the major battle of WW2 as map, but where the first encounter of Japanese and US Troops? Where is Pearl Harbor?

As my shoddy memory informs me, the encounter at Pearl Harbor was an act of Japan's volition that was not solicited by war. The attack, however, led to Americas entry into the global conflict, and thus declaring war on the Axis global forces.

And.. well.. the attack took the US TOTALLY by surprise, and we didn't do a real spiffy job of defending ourselves. They really caught us with our pants down, so to speak =x

yea, there shouldn't be an actual pearl harbor map..... but it would be cool if there was one SIMILAR to it, where there was a harbor with ships and stuff, and some japanese boats floating around launching planes and stuff.

i think i just confused myself :cya:

and to make the embarresment for the US even worse: They held a testdrill in 1936. To see what would happen if there was a surprise aerial attack. They did that at Pearl harbour, be base was pounded to bits, (well simulated that is) But the outcome of that test landed in a desk some where and was completly forgotten, because "That could never happen."

Pearl Harbour is a bad idea, it took place in 1941 (note: BF1942)and took the US by surprise just like what HostageOw said. As much as I'd like to see this map happen, I don't think it's a good idea.

But Omaha Beach was a surprise too, Rommel and a total tank division were waiting at the channel smallest place, but then BAM, Allied Forces landed at Omaha Beach!

And if Omaha Beach were exactly like in BF1942, Allied forces weren't come 100 feet from beach away!

Axis had a prepared defense at most of the beaches. At Pearl Harbour, most of the battleships and aircrafts were IDLE, plus 14 battleships/cruisers were destroyed, and only 5-6 aircrafts managed to get up into air to fight back, it was really bad. Omaha is a completely different situation, uncomparable.

Ok first off, THE WHOLE WORLD KNEW WE WERE ATTACKING OMAHA! the Axis prepared for it. i mean if we did take em by surprise how could they lay all those defenses in seconds? the only surprise we did was the pre-dawn invasion of normandy using the airbone divisions e.g. 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), and our favorite, the 101st Airborne! (Easy Company KICKS BUTT!) so there ya have it.

Also, our first full scale operation was Operation: Torch wich took place on the coast of North Africa.

HostageOw - “As my shoddy memory informs me, the encounter at Pearl Harbor was an act of Japan's volition that was not solicited by war”. “The attack however….” Are you saying that since war was not declared, it was an attack (not a battle) and should not be considered a map for that reason? Well when is Attackfield 1942 coming out because I would like to see a Pearl Harbor map. Realize this post is an act of my volition, but please don’t consider it an attack on your reasoning. lol

derFuhrer – “Pearl Harbor is a bad idea, it took place in 1941 (note: BF1942)….” Good to see someone can remember dates. Now heres a little quiz. How many of the battles (not attacks, read above) actually took place in 1942?

Nojar – “THE WHOLE WORLD KNEW WE WERE ATTACKING OMAHA!” Sorry but I couldn’t ignore this one. An invasion was evident but the Axis powers did not know where or when. Much of the German command was not even present on the first day. As for costal fortifications, they were part of the Atlantic Wall which stretched from the French – Spanish border all the way up into Norway !

Im not a history buff, I just found a way to stay awake in History class. Fight the real enemy – ignorance. :frog:

Nice ownage, crane. I was about to post something similar. In reality, H1tler was convinced the Allied invasion would come at the Pas de Calais, and the Allies nurtured this impression by setting up cardboard tanks and other stuff that German aerial recon would uncover. So he had at least two Panzer divisions dedicated to the expected attack at Pas de Calais, and even after the Normandy invasion started H1tler thought it was just a diversion and the "real" attack was still going to be at Pas de Calais.

LOL pwned H1tler

Anyway, while I do think the creation of a Pearl Harbor map could be seen in bad taste and not entirely in tune with the setting of actuall WW2 battles, I still think it would be pretty ****ing cool.

EDIT: That's weird, it censors the name H1tler if you spell it correctly...
