I think that the medic should have a rifle and the engineer should have a submachine gun. Because really, a medic is not a "combat" class. It's a support class like the engineer, but it's the one thats probably going to see the least combat usually. However an engineer must get close to set mines and detpacks but if hes caught off guard he only has a crappy rifle to defend himself. If the engineer had an SMG this would make me play the class alot more than I do. Actually it'd be the ONLY class I'd play...
Medics never carried a weapon i dont think. they mostly stayed behind to heal the wounded. Btw did you know the 64 mb Gf4TI4200 beat the 128MB GF4ti4200 in benchmarking? All i need is one more stick of 512 ram and this baby will rock more then it is now. Did you get your overclocking software from guru3d.com?
Yes I did. And the 64MB only beats it IF you don't overclock it. I have my memory on it overlclocked to the same speed as the 64MB stick. But I'll be ditching this card soon anyway. A Radeon 9700 or 9500 Pro is going to be my next card unless the GeForce FX is released alot sooner.
Yes see the Medics usually didn't have weapons so since they HAVE to have them in this game I think they should have the (arguably) worst one, the rifles (unscoped, of course). The engineers would need them alot more because they'd be working in close.

I think that the Engineer should definately have a submachine gun because he is usually in the most dangerous of situations. How can you expect to defend yourself with the default rifle while you have troops, other tanks, apc's, etc closing in on you?
In my opinion and view, an engineer with an SMG would unbalance the classes, the engineer is already the most destructable class and that is more than enough for people that know how to use the engineer class.
I agree with Fuhrer. Engineers got det packs, which they can set in a relatively public area and just wait and detonate. The DC mod gives engineers heavy MG guns though. Medics would stay behind at the base to heal the wounded but they also had medics in action. And BF1942 could be the situation like "If you're alive grab a gun" When you think about it though, the Americans who had Thompsons were usually at least above the rank of Sergeant. See I think engineers with rifles is ok, but I don't like the BF1942 version. I mean c'mon if it was an M-1 Garand hell I'd wanna be the engineer just for that. But you got a damn Lee Enfield instead. But also when you think about it, if you're a vehicle engineer (me) you don't spend much time on foot anyway so why should the engineer have a very effective gun AND a tank?
Yea medics with the smg are more like assaults with medpacks:uhm:

then everyone would be Engineers and that would suck
Calm down guys, you're all still thinking individual, not teamwork. The engineer should always be covered by his team members while he's laying mines and detpacks, and how much do you want the poor bugger to carry? He'll be leaving footsteps a foot deep soon. An engineer wandering off on his own deserves what he gets, he's not assault, same as assualt is not engineer, they shouldn't be attacking tanks with grenades, they should be distracting it so the engineer can blow it.
Maybe they should have a weight based loadout. You get a choice of gear, one mine and an SMG and half a dozen grenades, 3 mines and a pistol and 1 grenade etc.
Would work with all classes, instead of the Assault carrying 5 clips and three grenades let him dump the grenades and carry 10 clips, or 3 clips and 5 grenades.
Same with the medic, he really shouldn't have grenades, but if he got a choice between grenades and a SMG etc.
Does sound a bit complex I suppose, but what the hell, it's war isn't it?
That's my thoughts
