It is only client side mods man. Doesn't have anything to do with the modded servers out there. Calm down and read carfully.

Are you going to pay EA to do that?

Heh heh.

For you Merciless junkies, Merciless just has to become a server-side mod like Desert Combat. They can take the most popular texture sets, sounds, and all that sort of thing, then release it like normal. This means you'll have to find servers running Merciless, but I doubt that would be very difficult. You won't have the same degree of customization that you're used to, but you'll still have the more historical skins that you enjoy.

if they want anyone to play or update after 1.4 that is another option other than to disable skins

That's their choice, Jesse.

Joe, I don't see how your idea works, maybe I'm reading it wrong. A very small group of people will want to play a moddable but offline version of Battlefield. How is EA going to distribute that? Re-release this offline-&-moddable version in stores? It'd be too huge for a download I'm sure. You say once a mod becomes popular they can make it available for mp, but there's no need since mods will be fine with 1.4 as long as they're mods that have to be run on a server as well as your computer. With your idea you still wouldn't be able to personally customize Battlefield unless it was offline, so I don't see how that's an answer except to the dialup community.

Right, like I said, good for dialup folks but that's a Battlefield minority really. I can't see EA & DICE putting a big effort on it for what would in their view be a minimal return.

its a way for people to use custom skins. or if anything but the texture folder is edited you cant connect. the files other than the texture.rfa could be in an encrypted folder but that might be difficult to do
