I used to be a big EQ player back in the day and since the sudden popularity of WoW, I've thought about starting it. I am just wondering if it is worth the $10.00 US (not sure? correct me if wrong) a month. I know you all will say yes, etc. but let me put some thoughts into your minds about it. In EQ, the community was mostly older, mature people and it was what i loved about it so much. It delivered that, the more people you knew and met, the more successful you were in the world due to the very social aspect of it. WoW has come off to me as a huge PvP game and I am not looking for that. Also it appears that there are MANY stat whores and younger people playing it due to its Warcraft theme. When EQ was out not many younger kids would pay-to-play, but now it looks like mommy and daddy are reaching for their wallets to shut their kids up and MMORPGs were the way to escape nearly all noobs in online gaming, but now it looks like they have migrated. I also find that the races are kind of ridiculous and the graphics are very non-rpg and cartoony looking. I find many of the players' toons all kind of look alike and that is what made EQ so neat, the ability to have everyone very distinctly looking different. Also many of the environments look similar to each other. But a few things I like is the ability to not have to spend countless hours in play to acheive something since I don't have the time anymore, the monsters each look very unique and are detailed nicely, and guilds still seem to play a very significant role in the game, thus allowing me to avoid the noobs and assholes. This is kind of the deciding factor in WoW vs. Guild Wars. If I could get a free trial of WoW for about a month, I would be happy, but as of right now, GWs is looking pretty good.

Feel free to comment as it is encouraged.

WoW > EQ. I've played wow for about 6 months, it got a bit boring so i got rid of my subscription, and a week later im back to playing it again. You will love it, there are so many things you can do, so many different classes/races to choose from, and so many different options to choose from when creating your character. Give it a try and you will be addicted for life. If you dont have the money right now, ive heard there will be an expantion so you can just wait for that. I'm sure it will require the original to play the expansion though. :uhm: Edit: Actually, its $15 a month. I know its expensive, but its worth it. You can pay with your credit card or you can go buy an 2 month subscription card for $30, which is what i do. You can even buy 6 months for 60 dollars or something like that, which is a better deal if you are sure that you will be playing for that long.

Well being 15 I doubt you got the full effect of EQ, if you played it. I want a more 20-50 year old community and I really want the need for teamplay, so that there canbe the big emphasis on grouping as was prevelant in EQ. And 15 a month? Eck.

I haven't really played for long and I haven't seen much of the game. But honestly. It's so much better than GW. Team work and groups is ESSENTIAL in higher level instances. You don't have to PvP, just PvE (Environment) and quest everywhere. I've never had a PvP battle yet, and I'm loving the game.

I love how each Char plays an important role, and what Skills you take after Ex: Priest, Holy, Shadow, Or Disiplene(spelling) It's really awsome.

Yea...well I mean I knew all this before but to pay $15 a month I want experienced players. It would be nice to see some old Everquest players respond to this, as it is pretty much the sasme experience I am looking for, but just a new game. As for each class doing its own role...they have had that in every MMORPG I have played except planetside, which sucked btw. GW is free, so I am thinking I am getting it. EDIT: Also does anyone here over 18 even play it? So far I have seen only younger players responding.

There are alot of older players, even the ones younger than me seem to be fairly mature. Just join a good guild and you will have fun.

Yeh, I'm only 15, and I haven't met any idiots at all. In general the community is friendly and helpful. And the game is excellent. Although you may feel it is "dumbed down" compared to something like EQ. Although it is more or less grind free, and hugely entertaining.

I also find the quests to be very fun, there are very few that will bore you IMO.

If you like PVP then WoW is the right thing for you. Remember, it's from Blizzard and they made some of the best and most-played mulitplayergames ever. The battlegrounds offer a very good opportunity for teamplay and tactics. Actually, without both it is impossible to win. The graphics may look a bit cartoonish, but you get used to that. The problem I have with WoW is the amount of either young or ignorant players. If you don't manage to find a guild of likeminded people you won't have any fun in WoW.
