Well it has been confirmed at BlizzCon 07 that the Wrath of the Lich king is a real expansion pack and will contain alot of new features.

From Blizzard

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- August 3, 2007 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced plans for the second expansion to World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Unveiled at the company's BlizzCon gaming festival before an audience of more than 8,000 gamers, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will open the forbidding wasteland of Northrend to exploration by the hardiest adventurers. New levels of power, challenging new dungeons and encounters, an exciting new character profession, and the game's first hero class are just some of the new features awaiting players in Wrath of the Lich King.

Looks like its going to be a great expansion pack A gallery containing some of the better blizzcon images is located Image Gallery

And for a semi-HD streaming trailer of the expansion and the full article WRATH OF THE LICH KING UNVEILED

Old news now, everyone knows. My only hope is that it doesn't screw up WoW like the last one.

Blizzard just isn't learning.

This is there last desperate attempt to fix what they screwed up for in the beginning, WoW will be its own death. No it won't come suddenly, but as the masses realise there are much better options for their money out there, they will gradually shift.

The expansion has PvP written all over it. But wait, what else is about PvP these days? Warhammer and AoC. And they do it a helluva lot better than WoW ever could. Blizzard made the mistake of catering to a very small minority of their audience (The Hardcore) and the second of ignoring their community. I have never seen a company be so ignorant on feedback.

And raising the level cap to 80? What the fuck? Why don't you just stab yourself? Give the players more of what they hate. An endless grind. My money is betting there will be a dozen new factions for you to grind, and that all that spiffy new gear for those who managed to make it 70 will become obsolete.

Warhammer and Age of Conan both reach wider audiences, Blizzard should just scrap any further expansions and work on some form of a "WoW 2". And if they were clever they would allow a transition of characters from what they have now to that. Kind of like what Guild Wars is doing.

I'm on the fence here with all of this, personally.

I won't try to put myself in Blizzard's shoes as I can't imagine what it would be like to create a game of this size and then continue to keep it as balanced as possible for 9 million players. Not to mention updated with constant content added. Can you imagine how difficult that must be? People attack Blizzard, yet each person that does continues to play the game. ;)

It's funny now that you can link to peoples profiles in the Armory from the WoW forums. I read the posts of people complaining and then I check their profile(s) to see that they've continued to play that day, and will continue to do so for a long time coming.

Look at the Shaman forums - they seem to be complaining the most and they might even have a right too, yet each person I link too, is still playing, EACH day. If it was such a headache to them, you'd think they'd just pack it up. ;)

But back to my first point, this can't be easy and Blizzard has to do two things. Continue to profit and continue to keep the gaming going and bringing in subs. So far they've been successful on both accounts, so you gotta cut them some slack.

Many people enjoy that grind. Well enjoy it or are addicted to it, but you know there are already people preparing for it. Me, I was never a fan of it, in fact my main is still LvL 65. I just decided to take my time and not rush into things. I'll probably hit LvL 70 the day before WotLK is released. (I also have like 20 alts LvL 40+ )

Where as I'm looking forward to Warhammer, I'll point out that the same things were said about Vanguard. "Vanguard, the WoW killer". Nuff said. ;)

Guild Wars doesn't even compare. I couldn't get addicted or into that game if I was forced too. Perhaps if I was 12.

Oh I agree - It's kind of sad that almost everyone has Epic PvP gear now. I mean it's so simple. Join BG, AFK out, 3 weeks later, Epic PvP gear! ...

WoW and PvP = no. It's just a system that doesn't work.

I agree completely. Sure there was a lot of whiners and so on, but that's it. Why should Blizzard fix their complaints if they are paying and playing still? Clearly they must be enjoying it.

That's what I found, I am sure there are a percentage of players that enjoy the game, and good on them, if they enjoy that gameplay that's fine. But addiction is something different completely. I used to grind because I knew that each little piece of Experience would get me closer and closer to my goal of reaching the next level. But then it had to be repeated over and over again.

One of the game's major downfalls to me, is that it doesn't offer enough ways to level up via gaining experience. Killing mobs and grinding instances wears thin. And don't even mention quests, epic, enjoyable story lines in that game were few and far between.

Warhammer certainly does look good, and I am un-decided on what to play between it and AoC when the time comes, I'll end up buying one for the 360 either way.

Vanguard was an empty promise, while it has some interesting concepts it fails to left itself off the ground completely. That, and the system requirements to run it well I found were horrendous.

Guild Wars isn't considered an MMO. Rather labelled a CORPG (Cooperative Online RolePlaying Game.) But anyways, I bought the original and Nightfall at the recommendation of a friend, they got played a few hours and that was it. I found it repetitive, and much too like WoW yet without several features. Tried several times to enjoy it, hasn't worked so far.

If you ask me, Battlegrounds should have never been introduced to the game. A single, world PvP zone would have been great, something balanced for players of all levels. It would have encouraged active participation to win.

The idea of gaining honor or rep is another example of WoW's PvP. It fails utterly. Why not the idea of 'Bloody Tokens' where you would loot them off your PvP kill. Save up, and then purchase equipment? At least that way you know you would have truly earned it. Also, it adds a bit of risk to the game. Something sorely lacking.

IMO Death Knight is either gonna make or break the game.

Doubt it. There are going to be more hero classes later on. Wether Death Knight is good or not, blizzard can just cover their ass by promising another sooner then later.

I hope they add it before that. They have already said that they are adding more hero classes in patches, so they may. People have argued that it's too much like lock, but I think it would be great.

I hope that they add Necromancers too, Thundgot. It just seems to me like Death Knights are the closest things to Necromancers as we're gonna get. In the trailer, it looks like a Death Knight is summoning undead minions. I just hope that you don't have to be a pally in order to become a Death Knight. I'm not really a fan of paladins. It's not that I don't think they're good, but I just don't want to have to make one myself :P.

I can't wait for the new content that Wrath of the Lich King will introduce. It's the new level cap that I'm not so hot about. I'm comfortable being level 70. Griding is a pain.
