Once again It's another fantastic article from heaven games! There beloved eraph NAT has written an intresting article on the mercenary units from Age of Empires III, explaining the wonderful and historical background behind the wide variety of units you see in-game.
A Mameluke was a slave soldier who converted to Islam and served the Muslim caliphs and the Ayyubid sultans during the Middle Ages. However, over time they became a powerful military caste, and existed as a military body as late as the 19th century. In the early modern period The Mamelukes were suppressed especially by the Ottoman Empire, although bands of mamelukes controlled areas such as Egypt and modern day Iraq at certain times.
The article goes through most of the units including the following : Swiss Pikemen, Jaeger, Landsknecht, Mameluke, Highlander, Stradiot , Hackapell, Barbary Corsair, Black Rider, Manchu, and Ronin. Im sure NAT would love to here your comments on the well-written article and recieve some positive feedback HERE.
