This program is used to extract the .BAR files for Age of Mythology. You can use it to extract the textures, models, audio, and data files for modding. AoMED also can convert XML --> XMB and XMB --> XML, making it the most useful AoM data file conversion program.
If you are modder of AoM in any way, then this program is essential. Its easy interface leaves way for fast and pain-free extracting of the .bar files, converting of xml, xmb, brg, and many more AoM file types. Without this, you would be able to do almost nothing. It's hard to write a full length review, but if you are a modder or wish to be one, than I STRONGLY recommend that you download this.
Navigate to the dirctory where you extracted the AoMED archive. Run Aomed.exe. Once it pops up, you'll see a nice UI. The first selection, Direct File Conversion is only for conversion of XMBs as of now. Soon it may include textures, models, and other file types. The second set of selections is for extraction or decompression of Age of Mythology files. Set Input Data File is to select the .BAR you want to extract. E.g.: Age of Mythology\data\data.bar Folder to Extract Into is to select the folder you want to extract to. E.g.: C:\Temp Read Data File will beging this process. Please remember that many of these files are quite large. This means it may take a while for it to extract. Textures.bar and Models.bar are by far the largest, and may take up to 5-10 minutes, depending on how fast your harddrive is. The third set of selections is for compression of customized user files. Set Output Data File is to select the .BAR you would want to create. Please note that if you want to replace the Age of Mythology .BARs, you must include all the original files, modified or not and default.txt. Note that if you create a .BAR with only the file you modified, it will not be read by Age of Mythology, and could possibly crash the game. You can edit what goes in a .BAR file by editing default.txt, but it is hard and long for newcomers, if you have some experience, you can go around and add/remove files(though it is not good to remove files). Folder to Read Data From is to select the source directory. You cannot choose which files to directly put in a .BAR, but you can choose a folder, which means everything within that folder will be included. So it is a good idea that you work on your projects in an empty folder, which only includes the files you want to include in a .BAR. Write Data File will begin this process. Please remember that many of these files will be quite large (if you work with models or textures) and may take up to 5-10 minutes, depending on how fast your harddrive is.
