Heart of Darkness (UPDATED) (REVIEWED)

heartofdarkness3.zip

Description

Ajax must find Arkantos and unite forces to defend the town center. Eventually, after several attacks, Arkantos must leave to take a river journey in search of the evil dragon. Along the way, he encounters dangerous creatures and increasingly strange situations. If he makes it to the end of the river, he must destroy the temple to reveal the dragon. Victory is achieved when the dragon is killed.

Reviewed This is an updated version of a previously submitted scenario and I have to say that this scenario is now very high quality. My previous criticisms included the apparent lack of a storyline. The author has improved this though in the new version by including a short but sweet introductory cinematic and a description of the storyline in the objectives. The whole purpose of the scenario is crystal clear now and the scenario is now more appealing. This storyline is that a dragon has taken over Arkantos' town and he, along with Ajax, must fight to win it back. Although this is not the most original storyline, the scenario in itself is still quite fun to play. However, the story really isn't described in the cinematic, which for all intents and purposes, consists only of a camera track. This is perfectly adequate though and does look quite good, but I'd suggest that in future scenarios the author should try something a little more challenging, such as adding dialog, special effects, and different camera angles to his cinematics. Nice work all the same though ;)

My comments on other aspects of the old version file still stand and are as follows: The map is very well designed and there is plenty of eye candy to be seen. All parts of the explorable map were covered in trees, grass, bushes and other embellishments, for which the author should be commended. It is also evident that a great deal of time was spent in designing the 'paradise' part of the map and the ruined city - which both looked quite amazing. A good deal of terrain blending was used for a more natural look. The author clearly also had a fair knowledge of triggers.

Overall, this is a well designed scenario and is satisfyingly fun to play.
