This modpack adds King Motsognir, mightiest of all the dwarves, to the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY: THE TITANS unit lineup. It allows players using the Norse civilization to research and train the powerful hero at their Temple in the Mythic Age, as well as upgrade him with several custom technologies. The unit itself has two versions: a fast-moving, agile one, and a slow-moving, powerful one. Players can transform the unit from one version to the other at any time, at a small cost of resources, namely Gold and Favor. Each version, agile and strong, has it's own advantages and disadvantages. Like all Norse military units, the hero can build all of the Norse buildings (except the farm). Motsognir is based on the animations of the SPC Eitri unit.

Also included are screenshots of the unit, the ProtoUnit stats on a separate text document, the TechTree stats separate, and a backup xpacklanguage.dll, along with the installer itself. --------------------- Before You Install... --------------------- Once installed, the modpack adds a number of files to the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY folder. Most of these files are highly unlikely to affect or replace other games files, but some will do so. THE XPACKLANGUAGE.DLL - The modpack installation will replace the original xpacklanguage.dll file, located in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY folder, with a modified version. Included in the ZIP archive along with this README text is a copy of the original xpacklanguage.dll. Keep this file in a safe place somewhere on you harddrive. When the modpack is uninstalled, the modified DLL file will be deleted. Replace it with the backup copy of the original. - If you have yourself modified the xpacklanguage.dll, or installed another modpack with a modified version of the file, it would be wise to move it to an alternate location, as it will be replaced upon installation. - If you misplace or accidentally delete the backup copy of the original DLL file, you must either reinstall the game or copy the file directly from the CD. THE PROTOX.XML/XMB - The modpack installation will replace both the protox.xmb and protox.xml, if these two files are in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY\DATA folder. If you have not previously modified the proto, or installed another modpack that did so, then there is no cause for concern; the protox.xmb will remain safe in the data2.bar. - If the proto HAS been modified and it is currently installed in the DATA folder, it would be wise to move the files (protox.xml and/or protox.xmb) to an alternate location, as it/they will be replaced upon installation. - If you wish to add the unit to a previously modified version of the protox.xmb... 1.) Install the modpack files to an alternate location. Do NOT install the modpack files to the default AGE OF MYTHOLOGY folder, as it will replace the modified proto files already in existance. 2.) Open the ProtoX Stats.txt file included in the ZIP archive, or open the Motsognir protox.xml file that was extracted to the alternate location, using the NOTEPAD text program. 3.) Open the modified protox.xml file in the DATA folder with NOTEPAD. Or if the protox.xmb file is only present, convert it to XML format with the AoMEd file convertor utility (available at a number of locations on the Internet), and open it with NOTEPAD. 4.) In the ProtoX Stats.txt file or protox.xml file, scroll to the line labelled... '<unit id="801" name="Motsognir Agile">' - In the ProtoX Stats.txt, select all the text from that point down to the bottom of the document, and copy it. - In the protox.xml, select all the text from that point down to the bottom of the document, and copy it. 5.) In the modified protox.xml file in the DATA folder, go to the very end of document and paste the text copied from the above mentioned files. Make sure to include the line... '</proto>' ... at the end of the text. 6.) Two units were added to the proto; Motsognir Agile and Motsognir Strong. You must now change the unit ID numbers. They are... '<unit id="801" name="Motsognir Agile">' and... '<unit id="802" name="Motsognir Strong">' Change the numbers '801' and '802' to the next successive numbers of the unit directly above. - For example, if the unit above were labelled... '<unit id="806" name="New Unit">' you would have to re-number Motsognir Agile to... '<unit id="807" name="Motsognir Agile">' 7.) Notice that the Temple unit is also modified. Follow the similar steps as described above, by copying the stats for the modified Temple unit from... '<unit id="464" name="Temple">' to... '</unit>' Then, scroll to the unit '464' in the modified protox.xml in the DATA folder, and paste the text over top of the existing stats. Or, to simplify the process, copy the stats... '<tech row="2" page="1" column="4">Legends of Nidavellir</tech>' '<tech row="2" page="1" column="4">Might of Thor</tech>' '<tech row="2" page="1" column="5">Healing Runes</tech>' and paste them below the stat... '<tech row="1" page="1" column="2">Gemino</tech>' - No ID numbers need be changed in this unit modification. 8.) Save the newly re-modified protox.xml, and move it to an alternate location. 9.) Uninstall the modpack that was installed at an alternate location. Then reinstall it at it's proper location in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY folder. This will ensure that the uninstall will work in the future. Finally, delete the proto files installed by the modpack, and replace them with the modified proto.xml that you moved to an alternate location. - IMPORTANT: Each unit stats must end with '</unit>', and the proto itself must end with '</proto>'! THE TECHTREEX.XML/XMB - The modpack installation will replace both the techtreex.xmb and techtreex.xml, if these two files are in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY\DATA folder. If you have not previously modified the techtree, or installed another modpack that did so, then there is no cause for concern; the techtreex.xmb will remain safe in the data2.bar. - If the techtree HAS been modified and it is currently installed in the DATA folder, it would be wise to move the files (techtreex.xml and/or techtreex.xmb) to an alternate location, as it/they will be replaced upon installation. - If you wish to add the technologies to a previously modified version of the techtreex.xmb, simply follow the steps outlined above, using the techtreex.xml rather than the protox.xml, and the TechTreeX Stats.txt rather than the ProtoX Stats.txt. There are no ID numbers for technologies, so that aspect need not be worried about. Also, the technologies are all new; none are modified, so there is no replacement required either. Essentially, the process simply involves copying and pasting to the end of the document. - IMPORTANT: Each technology must end with '</tech>', and the techtree itself must end with '</techtree>'! THE CINEMATIC EITRI TEXTURE - The modpack installation will replace the cine a eitri map.ddt texture file, if it is in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY\TEXTURES folder. If you have not previously modified the DDT, or installed another modpack that did so, then there is no cause for concern; the texture will remain safe in the data2.bar. - If the texture HAS been modified and it is currently installed in the TEXTURES folder, it would be wise to move the file (cine a eitri map.ddt) to an alternate location, as it will be replaced upon installation. ------------- Installation ------------- Within the ZIP archive, along with this README, there is a file called 'Motsognir the Mighty' Setup.exe. To install the modpack, simply extract and run this program. The default directory is set to C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT GAMES\AGE OF MYTHOLOGY. If your game is NOT installed in this location, simply browse to the directory where your AGE OF MYTHOLOGY folder is located. - NOTE: If you choose to modify existing proto or techtree files, it is suggested that you do so in an alternate location, waiting until after installation is complete to move the modified files in the DATA folder. Otherwise, the files will simply be overwritten during the installation process. ------------- To Uninstall ------------- Once the modpack has been installed, a second program called Uninstall Motsognir.exe will appear in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY folder. Running this program will delete all files added during installation. This will include the xpacklanguage.dll. Once the modpack has been uninstalled, move the xpacklanguage.dll included in the ZIP, or an alternate DLL, back into the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY. If you misplace or accidentally delete the DLL file, simply reinstall the game. - NOTE: If you modified existing proto or techtree files, these will be deleted upon uninstallation as well, if they are kept in the AGE OF MYTHOLOGY\DATA folder.
