Hell's Gate - Version 1.0

A lucky find by an archeological research survey team has resulted in the valuable discovery of a cave in a lightly forested canyon. Inside, the cave they find ruined structures left over from a long departed and forgotten civilisation. Excited at the remarkable discovery, they set up camp and prepare to catalogue and record the findings discovered therein. Having established their base of operations and commencing their meticulous analysis of the excavation site, the archeologists decide to explore further into the depths of the caverness unknown.

Their progress is halted deep underground where they discover a large, reinforced gate that was sealed shut aeons ago. The gate has never been opened and.

The archeologists deduce that the entire ruined structure that they have discovered is actually an abandoned guard-post for a secure and secret underground Keep. They also deduce that the Keep is not only constructed to prevent the entry of intruders but Its reversed layout suggests that it's greater purpose is to hold something unknown securely within. A pair of menacing statues flanking the ancient gate, provide further testimony to the theory that something unearthly and hostile is buried deeply within, behind the barred entrance.

Feeling apprehensive and uncomfortable about this new disquieting discovery of an ancient warning; and expressing doubts about their safety, the archeological team holds quick discussions at their ground-level base of operations. At the cave entrance the decision is made and the situation is regarded to be outside of their professional experience and capacity to deal with such a potential threat. Hastily the team abandons the site, leaving behind much of their equipment.

Wisely, they have left the ancient gate untouched. ...and unopened.

The Archeaological team has since safely left the excavation site and indeed the gate remains unopened - but unfortunately - not forgotten.

Word of the discovery leaks to various Authorities and beuraucratic meetings are held. Official papers are signed; and the Military is despatched to the abandoned dig site to deal with the possible threat that exists in the bowels of the recently discovered cave. What they will find within has the potential to change the world forever.

Can the Marines - with their hi-tech firepower and training - successfully sterilise the dire threat to all of Humanity that hides behind Hell's Gate; or will the Marines unwittingly unleash a menace upon the Earth from which there can be no saviour...?

Gameplay
--------

Hell's Gate is an Objective based, Team Deathmatch map designed for gameplay between Marines and Aliens ONLY.  A minimum of 8 (2 teamsx4) Players is needed to enter the map to play effectively.  16 (2 teamsx8) Players is recommended for the best experience:


Marine Objective 1 (OFFENSIVE):
-------------------------------
Locate the Gate and open it.  Penetrate deeper into the bowels of the Earth and find the Xenomorph nest.  Set up 2 explosive devices in the egg chambers and then destroy the nest by detonating the explosives remotely.  This action will trigger a Victory for the Marines.

Marine Objective 2 (DEFENSIVE):
-------------------------------
Prevent ANY Xenomorphs from escaping to the Earth's surface:  There are several constrictions and choke points in the map that will permit easy sentry duty for Marines playing a defensive role.  Guard these locations carefully.  Allowing any Xenomorphs to escape to the surface will result in your failure - and the end of Humanity.


Alien Objective 1 (OFFENSIVE):

Once the Marines have opened the Gate, a path will be created that will allow access to the Earth's surface and provide Aliens with the opportunity to contaminate the World. Eluding the Marines and escaping from the subterranean confines to the surface will trigger a Victory for the Aliens.

Alien Objective 2  (DEFENSIVE):
-------------------------------
Protect the nest.  Marines successfully penetrating the nest will result in your failure as they are determined to drive your species into extinction.

See 'Objectives.jpg' for more details on achieving species specific Objectives.


For either team to achieve success in completing their Objectives and win the game, it will be necessary to have players taking on roles of both Offensive and Defensive positions.  Use the Player Spawn areas (Marine = canyon; Alien = hive.) to organise and co-ordinate your assault/defence strategies of these critical locations and decide which Players will adopt these specific team roles.  

All players will be aurally alerted to the opening of the gate and also to the placing of the explosives with appropriate global sound effects.

This map features the return of the infamous 'Predator Gas Chamber' and 'Mercenary Facehugger Death Pit'.  So, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that Players who prefer to play as Predators and Mercs consider rejoining the game as either Aliens or Marines.  You have been warned.

Construction Time       : Unknown...  On and off irregularly for 2.5 years.
Processing Time         : 21.42 Minutes.  Balance set to 950.
Known Bugs		: Please report any undocumented bugs.
New Sounds              : Yes.  Ambient sounds and music.
New Textures            : Yes.  Heaps of stuff.  Including custom textures exclusively made for this map plus stuff from 					  elsewhere:  Had to lift a tree model and related skins from NOLF for this map.
 

Installation
------------
Make sure AvP2 is updated to the latest version, which is currently: 1.0.9.6

Place the hellsgate.rez file in your 'c:\AliensVsPredator2' folder  Or where you have installed the game.

Start the game; and in the Game Launcher's Main Menu select 'Options'.  

Enter (copy & paste, if you like) into the 'Command-Line' field:

-rez hellsgate.rez

Check the box marked "Always specify these command-line parameters" to always load the map.

Return to the Game Launcher's Main Menu and select: 'Play'.  The game will then start with new map components loaded.  

Choose tdm_hellsgate from the TDM maps Menu in the 'Multiplayer' Options.  This map will only appear in the TDM Menu.
