In the first of two parts of news coming out of EA this week following their annual investors conference call, the newly released Apex Legends has shown itself to be off to a flying start, with a huge 2.5 million gamers logging onto the game in it's opening day.
The company stated that in addition to the 2.5 million unique players that day, at it's peak, there were nearly 600,000 people playing at the same time, and that response to the game has been "very, very strong".
It's also had strong coverage on YouTube and Twitch, according to CEO Andrew Wilson, and was hitting the number one trending on those platforms.
This isn't a guarantee of the game's success, however, although it does look promising - a high initial turnout for a game does not guarantee longevity, but that will come down to how fun the game is to play, ultimately. Given the popularity if Battle Royale games, however, it seems likely to continue to be a winner for EA.
