Well its not a mod update but a lot of Sightseeing.. :D
Holidays are coming closer. The historians in our team aren´t only happy about it because of sun, beach and sea, but also because of interesting hours in the one or other museum in europe´s metropolises, where you can admire, as an example, the military technology of world war I. Here are some suggestions from Parabellum and HELLCAT, with a personal judgement about the respective collection - considering the atmosphere, styling, exhibits. (++ (ingeniously), + (very good), o (good), - (acceptable), -- (weak): Heeresgeschichtliches Museum im Arsenal (Wien) URL: http://www.hgm.or.at Relevant topics: Military History of Austria. Two of five important topics are Austria-Hungary in World War I and the austrian navy (v.a. 1866-1918) Beurteilung: ++ Imperial War Museum (London) URL: http://www.iwm.org.uk Relevant topics: Military History of England in the 20th century. Many technical exhibits, rebuilded trench of World War I, artistically representation of World War I (Paintings) Beurteilung: ++ National Maritime Museum (Greenwich) URL: http://www.nmm.ac.uk Relevant topics: British shipping-history. Gigantic collection of shippaintings and -models. Beurteilung: + Royal Navy Submarine Museum (Gosport) URL: http://www.rnsubmus.co.uk Relevant topics: History of submarines. Small, but well done. Beurteilung: o Musée de l’Armée (Paris) URL: http://www.invalides.org Relevant topics: French military history (v.a. napoleonic time, but WW1, too). Very nice collection of cannons, handweapons and uniforms. Beurteilung: ++ Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (Portsmouth) URL: http://www.flagship.org.uk/welcome.html Relevant topics: British navy history. Three original historic ships: Warrior (1860), Victory (1765), Mary Rose (1510). Ingenius atmosphere, but, unfortunately, not much about the 20th century. Beurteilung: ++ Deutsches Schifffahrtsmuseum (Bremerhaven) URL: http://www.dsm.de/ Relevant topics: General german shipping-history. Main topic is civil shipping, but nevertheless well done. Some paintings, models and original exhibits of the "Kaiserliche Marine" Beurteilung: + Some more museums: In Flandern Fields Museum in Ypres Belgium. URL: http://www.inflandersfields.be Memorial de Vedun Fort Douaumont / Beinhaus von Douaumont URL: http://www.verdun-douaumont.com Historial de la grande Guerre in Château de Péronne URL: http://www.historial.org Deutsches Historisches Museum Unter den Linden 2, Berlin URL: http://www.dhm.de Until 15th of August the exhibition: "The world war 1914-1918 happenings and memories" Some more references from our readers: German museum in Munich URL: http://www.deutsches-museum.de Beginnings of flight technology until 1918 Wehrgeschichtliches Museum Rastatt URL: http://www.wgm-rastatt.de A little pre-taste is what you get by these pictures from the "heeresgeschichtliche museum" in Arsenal, Wien. If you have some pictures from other museums, you can present them to the other readers right here.
