This mod is unlike any other. As a traditional gamer, you may not like it. As someone who might like realism, you'll love it. This modification is geared towards reducing the emphasis on automatics and to knock down the almight assault class. Automatics were rare in WW2, and will be rare and carefully used in this mod. Nearly all troops will have the basic rifle, which will hopefully closely approximate WW2 conditions. I was satisfied playtesting this with 36 bots on Battleaxe, and was pleased to see "squads" of infantry carrying rifles, not SMGs or ARs, and watching infantry charges. Every change in this mod has historical rhyme or reason, and very few changes "just" for gameplay balance. Please read the enclosed readme.txt

Please read the enclosed readme.txt ******* *NOTES* ******* Maps with the Japanese will NOT work. Repeat, with this mod, DO NOT PLAY THE JAPANESE! Your computer will crash, guaranteed. I chose not to restructure the Japanese classes because I honestly couldn't find enough historical data to accurately portray their weaponry, and BF1942 version 1.2 has very limited weapons to begin with! I believe I use all but the STG44. ************* *INSPIRATION* ************* I made this mod because I am a WW2 Reenactor (Germans all the way!) and was tired of the deathmatch-ish feel and hosing in BF1942. Some statistics are modified to fit my personal judgment. I've live-fired K98s at targets, I've seen PPsh41s rip up targets, I've been shot at by BARs (which I monkeyed up in this mod to approximate the superior American firepower) M1s, and grease guns. I know how fast MP38s and MG42s fire. Sadly, right now, BF1942 can't come close to getting the weapons exact. In the real WW2, which is best portrayed by books and documentaries, is not the pixelated game you see. Medics had no weapons (except the Germans, as a "mercy kill" was considered good medicinal practice), mechanics weren't in the field, NCOs carried the automatics (if any) and everyone else had a rifle and a couple grenades, maybe a pistol if lucky. One thing games will NEVER fully depict is suppresive fire. In any game, if you get shot at, you shoot back first, then maaaybe take cover. I'm happy the bots hit the dirt in this game! Well, enough yapping, ENJOY! ********* *CHANGES* ********* 1. MG42s/Brownings all fire at similar respective rates 2. Mg42s/Brownings now have realistically reduced ammo (one .50 can was only 100 rounds, and to balance this, the smaller 7.92 cartridge MG42 has approximately 150 rounds per can, this balances the Tanks vs. Infantry) 3. No4 Clip increased to 10 (thats how big it was) 4. MP18 Clip increased to 71, accuracy decreased, ROF increased (to better simulate the Russian PPSH41, modified accuracy and ROF are based on watching actual specimens firing) 5. K98 ROF slightly increased (based on personal experience firing K98s) 6. K98 reload time slightly decreased (based on personal experience firing K98s) 7. Wirbelwind added, removed the 10 mags of 80 and made 1 of 800 (the ammo display doesn't show up, so I can never tell how much ammo is left in the mag) 8. Truck-mounted Allied AA added 9. Colt magazine changed to 7 (actual capacity) 10. 2 magazines per Walther P38, as was actual issue (one in gun, one in magazine holder built into gun holster) 11. 3 magazines per Colt, as was actual issue (one in gun, two in magazine holders on belt) 12. K98 and No4 magazines balanced, 9 for K98 and 5 for No4 (about the same ammo per gun, for gameplay issues. Realistically, German Infantry could carry 12 5-round clips.) 13. No4 magazine reload time increased (it used 2 5-round stripper clips, which takes longer than the K98) 14. Bar1918 changed to SemiAuto (balances Kits, you'll see) 15. Bar1918 ROF decreased (balances gameplay) 16. Bazooka/Panzershrek AI improved (will engage at longer ranges) 17. Restructured weapon indexing, WILL NOT WORK WITH JAPANESE! TRYING TO PLAY A JAP-MAP WILL CRASH YOUR COMPUTER! (press 1 for main weapon, 2 for pistol or grenades (depending on kit) and 3 for special (if available) such as a kit or bazooka) 18. German, Russian, British, and American kits changed to be somewhat more realistic. *Scout has a sniper rifle (very limited ammo, 30 rounds), pistol, and binocs. *Assault has the SMG, pistol (ROUGHLY simulates NCO). *Antitank has a rifle, pistol, and bazooka. *Medic has a rifle, grenades, and medpack. *Engineer has a rifle, grenades, and repairpack. 19. Jeeps and Kubels now have a mounted machinegun, accessible from position "3" (many small vehicles in WW2 were outfitted with machine guns to provide extra squad support... so here you go) 20. Katyusha rocket projectors now have a more realistic complement of rockets (they had many more than 6) 21. Landmines and explosive packs removed (landmines were deployed in the thousands across hundreds of miles, and explosives were very rarely used, neither of which can be accurately represented by BF1942) 22. Sherman AI modified to target infantry (someone at EA must have sneezed and hit a wrong key for this one) 23. Bazooka AI modified to prevent Quake 3-ish rocket arenas (bots thought bazooka to be uber anti infantry weapon) 24. Bazooka and Panzershrek only have 2 rockets (one in the tube and one in your backpack, as a regular man might have. In WW2, it was rare for someone to carry only an antitank weapon, and often suicidal. So, troops would gladly sacrifice carrying more rocket ammunition for a rifle and pistol, as typically each of their buddies would carry a spare rocket in their backpacks... something BF1942 can't accurately portray) 25. Axis troops now carry only 2 grenades (realistically, they would stick two grenades between their belt and tunic on the right side) 26. Axis grenade can be thrown farther than the Allied grenade (it's easier to fling a weighted stick than hurl a baseball... this is true to WW2) 27. Stationary machineguns have somewhat limited ammo, 100 for Browning and 150 for MG42, but have practically unlimited clips that take a while to reload (balances game) 28. Panzershrek/Bazooka rockets have MUCH greater range and less arc (balances game)
