File Description

DC Black Hawk Down is a "make-over" of Dice's Berlin. This map is based on the firefight in 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia in which 18 US soldiers where killed.

Textures have been changed, as have all the buildings. In addition, the Iraqi soldiers have been reskinned to look Somalian. The game starts with the US controlling the building targeted by the raid and their base. The somalis control the Blackhawk crash sites, which have the burning UH-60 Wreck static object from the DC Battle of 73 Eastings map.

The gaming style of this map is a lot like Berlin. That means, a no-holds-barred, take no prisoners, fast-paced meelee, all in a 3-dimensional urban environment! (Where Battlefield really shines) Take cover behind rubble and buildings, watch out for snipers and the US blackhawk, and hit "Cover me" and "Take Cover!" alot! Tickets bleed kinda fast, so don't lose your CP's!

There are 4 capturable Control Point's, including the US (formerly Russian) base.

Control Points are:

US_Convoy (US Control): 1 Blackhawk 3 Hummers

Crash_Site_1 (Somali Control)

Crash_Site_2 (Somali Control) 2 Ural Trucks 1 BRDM-2

Target_Building (US Control)

New Textures: The Iraqi faces and hands have been darkened to an African complexion. Unfortunately, this makes the US soldiers have white faces and black hands. It looks like they're wearing gloves, though. I had to do this because, to be blunt, a black guy with white hands looks a lot worse than a white guy with black hands. The clothes have also been changed to a civillian style.

In addition, the Iraqi flag is now a somali flag.

About:
DC Black Hawk Down is a "make-over" of Dice's Berlin. This map is based on the firefight in 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia
in which 18 US soldiers where killed.

Textures have been changed, as have all the buildings. In addition, the Iraqi soldiers have been reskinned to look Somalian.
The game starts with the US controlling the building targeted by the raid and their base. The somalis control the Blackhawk
crash sites, which have the burning UH-60 Wreck static object from the DC Battle of 73 Eastings map.

The gaming style of this map is a lot like Berlin. That means, a no-holds-barred, take no prisoners, fast-paced meelee,
all in a 3-dimensional urban environment! (Where Battlefield really shines) Take cover behind rubble and buildings, watch
out for snipers and the US blackhawk, and hit "Cover me" and "Take Cover!" alot! Tickets bleed kinda fast, so don't lose
your CP's!

There are 4 capturable Control Point's, including the US (formerly Russian) base.

Control Points are:

US_Convoy (US Control):
1 Blackhawk
3 Hummers

Crash_Site_1 (Somali Control)

Crash_Site_2 (Somali Control)
2 Ural Trucks
1 BRDM-2

Target_Building (US Control)

New Textures:
The Iraqi faces and hands have been darkened to an African complexion. Unfortunately, this makes the US soldiers have white
faces and black hands. It looks like they're wearing gloves, though. I had to do this because, to be blunt, a black guy
with white hands looks a lot worse than a white guy with black hands. The clothes have also been changed to a civillian
style.

In addition, the Iraqi flag is now a somali flag.

Installation Instructions:
1. Unzip the file.

2. Put the file "DC_Black_Hawk_Down.rfa" into
[your battlefield folder]/Battlefield 1942/mods/desertcombat/archives/bf1942/levels folder.

2. Start DesertCombat and Enjoy!

(Please bear with me for the lack of lightmaps. Every time I have tried to make lightmaps using Battlecraft 42, something
terribly wrong happens and I once had to reinstall BF1942. I don't touch the "generate lightmaps" button anymore)

***I am not responsible if you delete your hard drive by mistake or otherwise damage your computer. To reiterate I am not
responsible. ***

How to skin without Photoshop:
Believe it or not, you can edit Bf1942 textures without using Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. Just
download the "DXT tool" from http://ewelt-soft.de/cgi-bin/download/download.pl?action=more&about=7027736. This program
converts .dds files to .tga files, and back again. Unfortunately, it's written in German, but if you're smart you can figure
it out (if you don't speak German). "Selektierte Datien konvertieren" means "Convert the File" or something like that.
Always choose DXT3 when converting files from TGA to DDS. TGA files can be edited in many different programs, including
probably some free ones (You can check http://www.3dlinks.com/software_image.cfm for free graphics editors).

Conflict in Somalia/Black Hawk Down Mod Disclaimer:
I am in no way associated with the Black Hawk Down/Conflict in Somalia mods. This map uses only Desert Combat vehicles,
and was born from a desire to expand DesertCombat to theaters other than Iraq. I will make CIS and BHD versions of this map
when those mods are released.

Tools Used:
Editor42 (Some textures, ingame map)
Battlecraft 42 (Object placement, some textures)
Wordpad (for .con editing)
DXT Tool (.dds conversion)
PhotoStudio 2.0 SE (skinning)
Moseley's RFA Extractor (RFA extracting)
GmakeRFA (RFA Compression)
Windows Explorer (Duh)
