Desert Combat Sound Detail
By Highway

DC 0.38 and 44khz only!

Updated:

-New and old voices have been modified to simulate real radio effects.
-Users have a choice of either all the old voices, all the new voices or a random mixture.
-Most weapons have been tweaked
-New humvee engine

This mod is a near-total conversion of the Desert Combat sounds to present more detail. The new voices in 0.38 have had a mixed reception in the community so I've given you the option of new or old, although both the new and the old voices have been dramatically changed. Most of the new ones have been shortened and treated to have more variety. I've also tried to make all the voices fit better together. Much effort has gone into making the sounds as movie-like (not exactly realistic, more dramatic and violent) as possible. I have also incorporated elements of William A. Mitchell IV's WAMMOD for BF1942 which fit in nicely with my custom weapons. The list of changes follows:

Coalition weapons:

Berretta - New sound
M16 - Reworked original sound to give more edge
M249 SAW - Reworked, new release sound
M25 Sniper - New shell eject, tamed the decay
MP5 - Reworked
SMAW - Modified sound and added missile fx

Opposition weapons:

Browning - New sound
AK47 - Reworked and fixed decay sound
Tabuk Sniper - Tamed decay
PKM - Sharper and louder
RPG - New sound
Stinger - Modified

Coalition Vehicles:

M1A1 - New main gun and browning, engine and tracks modified
M163 - Cool modified sound
Humvee TOW - Modified sound with fx
MLRS - Added missile flight sound
M-109 - New main gun from WAMMOD, new mounted browning
A10 - New cockpit sounds, new main gun
F-16 - New cockpit sounds, added new dangerous dive sound
AH64 - Louder overall
UH-60 - New cool minigun sound
AC-130 - WAMMOD Howitzer, new minigun

Opposition vehicles:

T-72 - New mounted MG, new main gun and tracks
BRDM2 - New main gun
Shilka - Chunky new sound
M-1974 - WAMMOD main gun
SCUD - Missile flight sound
Mig29 - New cockpit sounds
Su-21 - New main gun
Hind - Louder, new MG

The warning sound on some vehicles has been set to sound every 4 seconds instead of looped. The outside music and radio chatter has been reduced in size by 80%.

Almost all explosions have been replaced (WAMMOD) or modified as well as fixed AA and MGs on both sides. Same goes for the ambients like footsteps (much more realistic).

Some original DC sounds were sampled at only 22khz so I resampled and enhanced them. Almost all the sounds have been treated in Sound Forge to sound good loud.

Installation:

Here's where you have to choose either the new voices, old voices or a random mixture of both. There are 2 folders in the zip file, as well as the sound.rfa.

To use just the modified ORIGINAL voices:
Back up the original sound.rfa located in:
\Battlefield 1942\Mods\DesertCombat\Archives
and replace with the sound.rfa in this zip.

To use the modified NEW voices:
Install the new sound.rfa as above. Copy the menu_001.rfa from the New Voices Only folder to:
\Battlefield 1942\Mods\DesertCombat\Archives
Copy the game.rfa to:
\Battlefield 1942\Mods\DesertCombat\Archives\bf1942 (back up the original file before overwriting)

To use a mixture of both:
Install the new sound.rfa as above. Copy the menu_001.rfa from the New And Old Voices folder to:
\Battlefield 1942\Mods\DesertCombat\Archives
Copy the game.rfa to:
\Battlefield 1942\Mods\DesertCombat\Archives\bf1942 (back up the original file before overwriting)

Uninstallation:
Overwrite my sound.rfa with the original one you backed before installing. Delete the menu_001.rfa file (if you used it) and replace the game.rfa with the original (if you used it).

Remember to set your sound to 44khz in the options menu for these sounds to work.

Note:
The only file I edited within the game.rfa was the gameplay.scc triggered sounds file. The menu_001.rfa has only updated menuradiosound files. These mods are completely compatible with online play.
