File Description
Hey, sorry, I found a big error while playing my mini-mod (Essential DC .4j Files v. 1.1) earlier today, concerning the whole SA-3/bots problem, but I fixed it now. Sorry for inconvenience! This now version"1.1a". Check the changelog.txt for the bug fixes.

You will need the original version of Essential Files for DC .4j (v1.1) for this to work.

Essential Files for DC .4j
Code by Lord Nader
Version 1.1
Please read entire readme!

*** Disclaimer ***

Not every gametype for each map has been tested! Also, not tested for online play. Please e-mail me if there are any problems
(e-mail address below). Please write detailed description of problem so I can tackle it as best as possible!

*** Overview ***

This file pack is a bunch of code that does the following functions:

- Enables the add-on maps Operation Aberdeen, Battle of Britain, and Coral Sea work with Desert Combat .4j.
- Enables the Road To Rome expansion to work with Desert Combat .4j.
- Enables the Secret Weapons of WWII expansion to work with Desert Combat .4j.
- Adds a versatile custom texture system for many many DC maps.

I've tried to make sure each map is not just a cheap conversion (i.e. change all light tanks to M2A3s or BMP2s and voila!
You're done), but to make each map have a unique feature and strategy for each side. You can discover these strategies as you
play each converted map, or you can read the "Strategies.txt" file for some good tactics for each map.

*** Installation ***

*** Custom Map Textures ***

I've created a new system on how DC will process custom map textures, and I've also expanded the number of maps that can
include this feature, including RTR, SW, and new DC .4j maps. Here's how it works.

- "Generic Environment" Custom Textures:

In your main BF1942 folder (default: "c:\program files\ea games\battlefield 1942") create a folder called "DCTextures".
Within the "DCTextures" folder, create the following folders:

Desert
Green
Snow
Urban

These are the "generic environments" for custom textures. There are several advantages to this:
1) Files for a particular environment are included in one place.
2) No wasting time copying individual files for each and every map.
3) Diskspace saved from not having multiple copies of each custom texture in multiple folders.

So, for example, for Aberdeen, El Alamein, Battle of 73 Easting, and Oil Fields, you will have the same custom textures for
each, b/c they're all using the same folder. Obviously the name of each folder indicates what kind of custom textures should
be placed in which folder. The four folder names MUST match the ones above, or your custom textures will not show up.

- "Map-Specific" Custom Textures:

The second part of this system is the ability to override the "generic environment" textures for a specific map. For
instance, Headhunter's original DC Textures pack included a way to change the Battle of the Bulge into a temperate
environment. You can still do this by creating a new folder in the "DCTextures" folder called "Battle_Of_The_Bulge". Copy
the custom textures into that folder, and they will override any custom textures that BoB would otherwise pick up from the
"Snow" folder.

If a map is a "Day2" or "Day3" map (e.g. Kharkov, Kharkov_Day2), the "Day" maps will use textures from the root folder.
For instance, Kharkov and Kharkov_Day2 will use custom textures from the "Kharkov" folder.

Below is a list of which maps belong in which category (Desert, Green, Snow, or Urban). The name provided for each map below
is also the name of the folder you should create if you want map-specific custom textures to override the generic environment
textures.

*** Known bugs ***

- Objective targets have an odd damage system now. They seem to take damage mostly only from splash damage. E.g. firing an
M1A1's main cannon at the SCUD rockets in Hellendoorn will cause little or no damage. RPGs/SMAWs do a LOT of damage (they can
knock out 33% to 50% of an objective's health in one direct hit). Most other explosive weapons will take off between one and
four tickets. I've doubled the HPs of each objective to compensate for the RPG/SMAW extreme damage. Hopefully I can figure
out this damage system.
- Balanced gameplay for all maps is in question. E-mail me with suggestions on balancing the maps if you encounter a problem.
- Each time I was playing Co-op and I fired an SA-3 guided missile, the game crashed. This is probably a DC error, not mine,
but until it's corrected, all Co-op maps will not have SA-3s (ZPU-4s will have to be the replacement).
- Please e-mail me if you find any more bugs! (See below)

*** Version 1.2 ***

- Phillipine Islands map configured for DC!
- Better balance for maps!
- Bug fixes!
- More maps configured for custom textures!
(List subject to change)

*** Misc. ***

- I've reconfigured the startup videos so you can quickly skip through the all of them. This only applies to the my two mini-
mods (DC_Road_to_Rome and DC_Secret_Weapons_of_WW2).
- If you would like a certain map to be converted to DC, please e-mail me the link to the file. (DO NOT send me the file, my
56k will not be happy.)
- BTW, version 1.0 was the "Add-on maps to DC" I coded awhile ago, but that was like two days before DC .4 came out and
invalidated my file. :-( Hope it doesn't happen again.
