This one changes the kit loadouts, making things as "historically accurate as possible".
Im really into how much this guy has made things more historically correct. So check out his other mods, and try to get some servers using these ;)
These mods will probably work online, but only with client/servers both having them.
GAME: Battlefield 1942 v1.1 (may not work for earlier or later versions) MOD: vonManstein's Realistic Troop Kits Mod IMPORTANT NOTE: This mod is best used with my Realistic Small Arms Mod. The No Bazooka Mod is also recommended. DESCRIPTION: The weapons given to the soldiers has been changed to make them as historically accurate as possible. In WWII, assault rifles and SMGs were usually only issued to NCO's. Other soldiers had the standard rifle. So I have increased the use of the standard rifle by giving it to the Medic as well as the Engineer. Kit Types: Anti-Tank: Not changed in this mod - but consider my No Bazooka Mod for this class. Assault: Main weapon changed to SMG, except for US. Notes: SMGs were far more common than assault rifles in WWII. Medic: Main weapon changed to standard rifle, except for US. Notes: Medics were not allowed to carry weapons under the Geneva convention, but many carried pistols only. I didn't want to go that far in BF1942, but I did want to cut down the Medic's capability slightly, to make him less aggressive and compensate for his healing ability. So I took away his SMG and gave him a standard rifle instead. Engineer: Main weapon remains standard rifle, except for US. Scout: Not changed. Changes the equipment given to the following Troop Kits as follows: 1) British Assault - Main weapon changed to Thompson SMG, which was in British Army service. (Note: The British did not have the BAR, and the Bren unfortunately isn't in the game. Also balances well with the Germans, see below.) Medic - Main weapon changed to No.4 rifle. Engineer - Main weapon remains No.4 rifle. 2) German (including Desert) Assault - Main weapon changed to MP40 SMG. (Note: The StG44 was only produced from 1944, and remained a rare weapon - only 100,000 were made compared to a million MP40's. So I only wanted the StG44 for the Battle of the Bulge and Berlin, and the MP40 for the other German maps - but I haven't yet worked out how to do this. For this reason I have had to remove the StG44 from the game entirely, for now. Sorry, Sturmgewehr fans - it's hard, but it is more historically accurate!) Medic - Main weapon changed to k98 rifle. Engineer - Main weapon remains k98 rifle. 3) Russian Assault - Main weapon changed to MP18 SMG. (Note: The Russians did not have the BAR either, and this is as close as we can get to a Russian SMG.) Medic - Main weapon changed to k98 rifle. (Reason: The standard Russian rifle, the Moisin-Nagant M1891/30, was more like the Mauser k98 than the British Lee Enfield No.4. Also I wanted to make the Russians as different from the other Allies as possible.) Engineer - Main weapon changed to k98 rifle. (Reason: As above.) Scout - Main weapon changed to k98Sniper rifle. (Reason: As above.) 4) Japanese Assault - Main weapon changed to MP18 SMG. (Note: The Japanese did not have the StG44, or anything like it, but did have a Bergmann MP18 derived SMG.) Medic - Main weapon changed to k98 rifle. Engineer - Main weapon remains k98 rifle. 5) US Assault - Main weapon remains BAR assault rifle. (Note: The BAR was more common than the StG44, so I decided to keep it even though the Axis have lost the StG44.) Medic - Main weapon remains Thompson SMG. (Reason: The M1 Garand is not in the game, and the No4 rifle is too unlike the semi-auto Garand - so the Thompson has been issued instead.) Engineer - Main weapon changed to Thompson SMG. (Reason: as above.) Scout - Main weapon changed to k98Sniper. (Reason: The American sniper rifle, the Springfield M1903, seen in MoH:AA, was very similar to the k98 in appearance and capability, and looked unlike the British Lee Enfield No.4 rifle. So only the British have the No.4 now.) Notes on US: I am aware that this mod gives the US infantry greater firepower than their German and Japanese counterparts. This is true to life, because the Americans really did have more firepower - the semi-auto M1 Garand fired 2 or 3 times as fast as any bolt-action rifle. Also the Americans have the most difficult missions in the game (Wake Island, Omaha Beach, Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge) and this is a good way to compensate. Historically, the Germans and Japanese had a very difficult time against the American infantry, and this mod simulates that. They will need to make good use of snipers and machine-gun nests to hold their own. INSTALLATION: Use Winzip to extract the objects_392.rfa file to your main Battlefield 1942 folder.
