Today is October the 19th. Today you will continue the Battle of Wake Island. Hurry! Your fellow soldiers are waiting for you, they need reinforcements!

Simply put, this map has to be seen to be believed, just look at this list of features.

Let's see what we got in this map :

- Battle during a dark late evening.

- Increased view distance by 300% (some map tweaking should help you keep a good performance level. If you need to, you can always lower the Details and View distance from BF's option menu.)

- Reorganised reinforcements. (more stuff and placed differently. Some of them have been modified for a little fantasy and fun..)

- Some vehicles have a longer life if left alone.

- Darker suits makes it easier to hide.

- Some modified textures.

- It's late, so the water level has lowered! Be careful with the boats!

- Results of the last days of battle : the terrain is now rough and hazardous. Good for hiding, bad for driving.

- New control points attributes.

- New "dropped-from-a-plane" reinforcement waves. (better be quick on the parachute handle)

- It is now possible to move a big ship in the center of the island! Yes!

- And more............

I was having as much fun snapping screenshots around the island as I was actually playing it. There are downsides though. The skybox, while it looks great, suffers from the usual Battlefield pixelation and lack of color blending. Why Digital Illusions decided to do that with the sky textures I'll never know. And the horizon would've benefited from some fog or blending, something to alleviate the distinct line where sky meets ocean. These are very, very minor gripes because this map as a whole is a sheer blast to play. The majority of the time you get the impression that everything really is being lit up by moonlight instead of having the normal looking Wake Island with a night sky thrown in. In my humble opinion, everyone should play this map at least once.

Wake Island - Same Day


"It's late in the evening and the air is getting a bit cooler. After all the efforts made by my fellow soldiers and me, we actually managed to survive this afternoon's attacks. Oh man!, the loss of William and James is more painfull than the bullet that got through my shoulder. Everyone here saw at least one of their friends die in the hand of the ennemy. Thank God I can still breathe and got enough energy left to sit here and watch for any suspicious activities."

"The fact that we finally got reinforcements doesn't decrease the chances that we might be attacked again by the ennemy. Well, that doesn't lower the speed at wich my blood is rushing through my veins neither... I cleaned up and kissed my Mk1 hoping that I'm gonna make another twenty four hours alive. But... wait..., if this is what I think it is... there's a red sun on that flag, and another one!!! Shit!"

"Ennemy ships spotted! Two japanese carriers! One west, one east! Four japanese planes total! Destroyer at west of island!!! Get up, load up your guns...  we're under attack!!!"

1      ----- INFORMATION -----

Thank you for downloading this new Battlefield 1942 level named "Wake Evenings": the very first 'new' map made by myself, MoonQuake. Wake Evenings continues the Battle of Wake Island, late in the evening.

2      -------------- IMPORTANT  NOTICE --------------

The usual 3 respawn points on japanese aircraft carrier now refer to the 2 carriers. Carrier respawn points are no longer aligned on the ships, but are showing up in the average center point of both carrier coordinates. If you select to respawn on a carrier, you will respawn on the closest carrier from where you died, usually.

Best way of playing this map is Conquest mode. Tests were made under all multiplayer modes, but NOT in single player mode. But it will probably work if you try.

This level was NOT tested with the DEMO versions of BF 1942. It will probably not work.

Feel free to distribute this BF 1942 custom level as long as this README file is included in the download file (ZIP). Content and creator informations must not be modified no matter what. If you wish to post screenshots of this map, be sure to include information about its author.



3     ---------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS  -----------

Very easy!
You got only 3 files in the ZIP package. You must simply extract them from the package and put them in the correct folders within your Battlefield 1942 game folder : 

* Open your "BATTLEFIELD 1942" folder on your hard drive (where you can see the "BF1942.exe" and many folders and files).

* Then, locate and open the folder "ARCHIVE".


-- From your ZIP file : 

* Put    MENU_942.RFA    and   TEXTURE_942.RFA    into this "ARCHIVE" folder.

DONE

-- Still in the "ARCHIVE" folder,

* Locate and open "BF1942" folder.

* Locate and open "LEVELS" folder.


-- From your ZIP file :

* Put    WAKE_EVENINGS.RFA    into this "LEVELS" folder.


Voila!   You are done!!!

I'm sure everyone of you knows I made this map for fun. For you to enjoy a new map for this great game that is Battlefield 1942. I know this level is far from perfect, and different from what you would have done. Remember, this was done using NO OFFICIAL TOOLS. Just take this as a small but positive effort and contribution in helping Battlefield 1942 become even bigger and diverse.
