this map was created between april'04 and januray'05 

backgroundinfos to the creation process and the map:
Normaly i work as level designer for hl (for example bushido) or quake3 engine based mods. 
But in January 2004 i was asked to build several maps for the exclusive samurai wars mod 
which should come with the europe release version of savage: battle for newerth.
It was an interesting change from bsp based level editing to huge heightfield map based
terrain building. A new technique that I enjoyed more as expected. 
The release of battlefield: vietnam and it's good editing tools (thanx dice for this great game)
gave me the possibilty to try some terrain building again. 
I started layouting this map in april 2004 in "offline" mode during a vacation on the 
canarian islands. "Offline" mode means that i got only a block of paper and sketched the
layout and later more detailed map parts.
After returning home i scanned the handdrawn heightfield map and imported it into battlecraft.
The first approach didn't worked well - i underestimated the need of enough outside map area.
The terrain was good - the overall map just too small.. 
So i restarted after the patch 1.1 with a huge map using the heightfieldmap from my first
try. Sadly the terrain was 4times bigger now...
So it took awhile.. 
During a serious amount of online battles i realized that heli base raping wasn't
the gameplay that i wanted in my map. I personaly prefer sniping and rapid flag point turnover with
coordinated attacks of vehicle and troops. So i decided to add only air transportations.
The hilly terrain with it's river should give enough options for fast huey intrusions for the us team 
and the swimming ability of the BTR/Pt76 plus their anti air power will make the nva to an challenging
opponent.
My personal goal was to give the map an unique look and add at some remarkable spots for better orientation.

know issues: 
one unremoveable flying piece of grass 
one or two flying trees
all mortars and mgs work in lan mode - but sadly they seem to 
lack sometimes functionality online (why?)
no botsupport
only available game mode is conquer
