From the readme:
These skins are to enhance your experience inside the Nebulas and Dust Clouds (NOT the Nebula-class Federation ship!) This wisps the clouds out in gossamer cirrus-like clouds, similar to those found in FreeSpace 2. These skins are for the high-end graphics version, so low-end systems may not have the effects. A super-high resolution version is in testing, but this is still a vast improvement of the original.
I'd tend to agree there. This gives you a sense of speed in the nubulas too unlike the orginal where it looks like your just sitting there twiderling your thumbs.
Brilliant textures make for great experience enhancement for Bridge Commander.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a modification of the original game Star Trek:Bridge Commander by Totally Games and Activision. Neither party has authorized this mod, and therefore bear no responsibility to any affect it may have on the game. Buyer Beware! That being said, here's how to install the new nebula skins. 0) We recommend backing up the original files, in to easily replace the files if anything goes wrong. 1) Find your Bridge Commander directory, usually in Program Files:Activision 2) find this folder- Bridge Commander:data:Backgrounds:High 3) Unzip all the new skins into this folder. They will replace the current ".tga" files. 4) Dive in and take a look! These replace skins in both Quick Battle and the Single Player Campaign. The two main Nebula systems are at Belaruz 1 and the Vesuvi Dust Cloud. Let me know what you think. Have fun! Ben Howard [email protected] www.shamelessmayhem.com
