The Titania is a large transport and colony vessel capable of transporting enough personel and equipment to create a settlement of a few thousand on a planet. It's large nacelles permit long range travel, and it's giant bussards can be programmed to scoop up all sorts of stellar matter to be used as rawmateirals for it's replicators and fuel supplies. It is armed, it has several phaser bank placements and 2 torpedo tubes on each side. While this ship is certainly not match for an enemy warship, it is more than capable of defending itself from raiders and it's colony from asteroids and comets. At 508 poly, system designers will find this a usefull item to have roaming their maps.

With this in mind the USS Titanic (NCC 85437) and her sister ship, the USS Titania (USS 86174), are the start of this venture. These massive city style ships have taken a total of 5 years to build, and have been designed with the ability to transport thousands of colonists on the long journey to a new home. Each of the two ships in current service is able to go without any refit, major or otherwise, for up to 250 years, with only the need for very basic maintainance. However, this has not always been the case. A far more horrific usage was the reasoning behind this design. With the second incursion of the Borg and the Dominion war, the Federation were looking at the possibility of Earth being conquered. In this case it would have been necessary to use the Titanic Class as a means to rescue as many Federation people as would be possible and transport them to a place far from their enemies.
