================================================== ------------------------- LETHAL ARMS REALISM ------------------------ ================================================== FULL MOD Version 2 (With SUPPORT For LINUX Servers) Written by James "NastyJim" Ribi. AKA. [VS-UK]NastyJim Contact: nastyjim AT vs-uk.co.uk (Replace AT with @ symbol) Clan Website: www.vs-uk.co.uk This README FILE IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE Lethal Arms Realism V2 ZIP File. For more information on Lethal Arms Realism, please visit the website: http://www.vs-uk.co.uk/LAR http://forums.vs-uk.co.uk/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=109 NB:- MORE DETAILED INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND BY READING THE HTML README FILE DISTRIBUTED WITH THE LETHAL ARMS REALISM V2 ZIP PACKAGE. ---ABOUT THE MOD----------------------------------------------------------- Firstly, this is both a CLIENT and SERVER-side mod (which means that both the server and client needs to have a copy installed and running in it's ''CoD2/Main'' directory. I'm afraid to say that ideally the mod would be purely server-side but this issue can not be fixed until the first CoD2 patch is released. More information later in the readme. Secondly, this is a Realism Gameplay mod (a mod that affects how the weapons behave ingame with extra scripting features accessible via the config file and ingame from console ). This mod places heavy emphasis on a very well balanced gameplay to ensure that no weapon is overly powerful or weak within the confines of realism. All weapons now do an increased amount of damage on a player causing them to die with a headshot, neck shot or upper torso shot (and in cases where MGs and Rifles are used, shots aimed at the Lower Torso and Upper Leg will also kill) as you would expect in real life. This adds a touch of realism to the game which I felt was lacking before. For those that are new to Lethal Arms, please take a few minutes to read through the In-depth Look Section of this readme to get an idea of what realism alterations have been made. For those that have used LAR before, this is the first FULL version for Call of Duty 2. It is loosely based on the previous latest version for Call of Duty : United Offensive Lethal Arms Realism SVR V5 (as seen on [VS-UK] CoD:UO Servers) taking many features from there. Call of Duty 2 Lethal Arms Realism V1 features many gameplay and scripting enhancements such as: - Cooking Nades - Increased Damage Rates - Balanced Weapon Damages - More Realistic Weapon Behaviour - An Increased Sense of Power When Firing Weapons - Encourages Tactical Gameplay and Clan Planning - Emphasis on use of Iron sights - Reduced Nade Throwing Distances To Simulate Realistic Nades - Automated Server Messaging - A Blood Mod - Reduced Particle Smoke Grenades (less fps lag) - Optional Old Health Bar System - Optional Grenade Indicators - Optional Death Indicators - Optional Player Hit Indicators - Optional Minefield Deactivation - Optional Spawn Protection - Optional Anti-Camping/AFK features Call of Duty 2 Lethal Arms Realism V2 now features a great deal of realism fixes and scripting upgrades such as: - Added message center, can hold up to 10 messages. - Death icons can be removed. - Crosshairs can be forced off. - Grenade indicators can be turned off. - Objective Icons can be turned off. - Damage feedback can be removed. - Clients options return to default when leaving a server which forced crosshairs off. - Implemented realistic falling damage. - Implemented weapon limits. - Obituaries can now be turned off. - Added realistic health regeneration. - Second slot can now be set to pistol only. - Added realistic pain and death sounds. - Added weapon drops when hit in hands or arms. - Implemented damage dropoff for all weapons. - Implemented health bar. - Health regeneration can be turned completely off. - Ablity to turn off the "Press Space to..." icons. - Added 2 welcome messages. - Crosshair colours can be forced off. - Weapon drops on death can be turned off. - Grenade drops on death can be turned off. - Added option to give a player 5 points for planting/defusing a bomb in SD. - Added option to give alive players in the winning team 3 points in SD. - Added option to give players only one frag grenade (amount of smoke grenades remains the same). - When obituaries are off, the obituaries of teamkills can be turned on. - When obituaries are off, players can still see by who they are killed. (CVAR - ON/OFF) The Lethal Arms Realism V2 ZIP Package contains TWO IWD files: "zzz_Lethal_Arms_Realism_V2_FULL.iwd" "zzz_Lethal_Arms_Realism_V2_SLIM.iwd" When installing LAR, DO NOT use both IWD files. The FULL version contains ALL scripting features and enhancements detailed above. This version is NON compatible with any other gameplay or realism mods. If you run your server on a non-Linux platform (such as Windows), I recommend you use this IWD unless you wish to ONLY use the LAR Mod for it's realism. If you run your server on a LINUX platform OR if you wish to ONLY use the LAR Mod for it's realism (possibly in conjunction with other gameplay mods) please extract and use ONLY the SLIM version. The SLIM version contains the bare essentials of the Lethal Arms Realism Mod - the weapon realism files. Due to problems with the way Call of Duty 2 v1.0 (unpatched) runs, certain scripting files do not work on LINUX platforms. Files such as all of the LAR mod's scripting enhancements and upgrades are not supported by LINUX therefore I can only release the SLIM version as a limited measure to accommodate for any LINUX Servers users of the mod. For installation details please see the Installation Guidelines. ---DISCLAIMER-------------------------------------------------------------- This realism file has been written to add to the enjoyment factor of the game Call of Duty 2. It has not been intended for decompilation or editting so please keep the "IWD" file in it's release form, as a "IWD" file. If you wish to edit the "IWD" file for any reason please contact me before doing so on the provided email address. You may distribute the Lethal Arms Realism mod as you please, so long as you include this readme file, and the HTML readme file with it, uneditted. If you plan on running a Server using Lethal Arms Realism, please identify this by adding the initials "| LAR |" in the Server's hostname. This allows players to see that you support Lethal Arms Realism. ---HOW TO INSTALL---------------------------------------------------------- (Windows and Other Non-Linux Platforms) This Installation Guide is for the Lethal Arms Realism V2 FULL Version ONLY. To install, go to your Call of Duty 2 directory ( default location: "C:/Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 2" ) and create a new folder called "vsuk". Inside the Lethal Arms Realism package file, extract ONLY the file, "zzz_Lethal_Arms_Realism_V2_FULL.iwd" to your "Call of Duty 2/vsuk" directory. Do not attempt to extract any files inside the "zzz_Lethal_Arms_Realism_V2_FULL.iwd" file with WinZip or WinRaR. Please remove all previous versions of Lethal Arms Realism from your "main" or "vsuk" folder. Public players who join your server will need to download the mod to play so please ensure that you set auto-downloads to ON by adding the cvar: "set sv_allowDownload 1" to your server's config file. This will allow public members to automatically download the mod. The file itself is very small and should not impact the server's performance. If you run your server from a shortcut on the desktop, please edit the target line of the shortcut by right clicking on it and selecting "Properties". After the directory line, please add the following text to the target line (outside of the quotation marks): +fs_game vsuk Your target line should look something like this: (------ "C:/Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 2" +fs_game vsuk -----) Since you can not ensure that public members don't run other realism mods or cheats in their "/vsuk" directory, I highly recommend you also set your server's pure feature to ON by adding the cvar: "set sv_pure 1" to your server's config file. This ensures that only the LAR mod works when they play on your server. Please also see the Mod Scripting CVARs Section for information regarding using the LAR CVARs. ---HOW TO INSTALL---------------------------------------------------------- (Linux and Windows Platforms) This Installation Guide is for the Lethal Arms Realism V2 SLIM Version ONLY. Sniper Rifles are extremely accurate at range assuming you can aim correctly! Shots will go where you want them to go when using the scope. Without Scope, the Sniper rifles are dreadful - this is to prevent the use of the "Attack Snipers" (where people run around firing at close quarters without the use of their scope). If you need to defend yourself at close quarters, the use of the pistol is now recommended. Overall, Snipers are totally LETHAL ARMS in the correct hands! Bolt-Action Rifles, like the KAR98K, LeeEnfield and MosinNagant are very accurate at range providing you with a superb weapon to shoot enemies with. The high damage these weapons produce makes them very versatile guns in the field, and no doubt will be a favourite choice for many CoD2 players. The Semi-Automatic rifles such as the Gewehr, Carbine, Garand and SVT40 now fire at a slightly slower rate to prevent them being used like machine guns however their accuracy and damage have been increased. All rifles have been tuned to balance themselves out except the carbine. The Carbine fires slightly faster than the other rifles however is less accurate and does slightly less damage. Semi-Auto Rifles in this mod as for those who like the high accuracy of the Bolt-Action Rifles but hate the rechambering time between shots. Granted, these rifles are not quite as accurate as the Bolt-Action guns however their increase rate of fire make them a very favourable option instead of the bolt-actions. However, if you find the fire times of those rifles still too slow for you then you could try the Machine Guns: the MP44, BAR and BREN all of which are very accurate when using the Ironsights although have some kick. These are also high damage weapons and will kill first time in the head or upper body as you would expect. Again, these are accurate at range and combined with their high rate of fire makes the Machine Guns a very flexible weapon for almost all combat situations. But if you're still looking for something with that little bit extra speed and rate of fire, then you should try the SMGs, such as the MP40, Thompson, Sten, PPSH, GreaseGun and PPS42. These have now been balanced out well to give no bias. It's a joy to run up and spray the hell out of an unsuspecting victim with an SMG, giving them no chance to even blink. The SMG's lethal effectiveness will no doubt make it one of the most popular weapon choices available, especially on the smaller maps. To balance out, the SMGs also have quite a large kick and recoil rate which make them inappropriate weapons for mid to long range. Pistols now fire more like real pistols do, with more of a kick and less accuracy. Their rate of fire and damage is not far from what the default settings were. A shot from a pistol in the head will kill. To get the most out of your pistol, it is advisable to take your time aiming your shots rather than firing fast and randomly. Grenade throwing distances have been decreased slightly and their explosion radius increased. The nades have been balanced according to their weight: Eg; the German Potato-Masher can be thrown the furthest but do the least damage, whereas the American Frag Grenade can be thrown just over half the distance but do twice the damage. To get the best out of your grenades, you should run and jump to throw them their furthest. Cooking nades is now available by holding button. Bashing for all main weapons kills first time. This is to simulate soldiers being incapacitated due to severe knocks. Overall, all weapons have their pros and cons when it comes to their usefulness in different situations. (Although I'd like to think that they all have more Pros than Cons!). I spent a long time finding a perfect balance between all weapons to enable their effective use. Unlike the original game default realism, there is no bias as to which weapons are best and worst. Each are best suited to their own unique situations which makes every weapon useable and a joy to play with. Weapons are designed to suit your prefered style of play - for example, if you like getting up close and personnal then the SMGs are your best friends, or if you prefer the challenge of shooting small targets at range then the bolt-action rifles will come invaluable. This is what makes the Lethal Arms Realism Mod such a brilliant alternative to the standard realism provided with Call of Duty 2. Scripting Alterations: Available with Lethal Arms Realism V2 FULL, scripting features include: - Added message center, can hold up to 10 messages.
