In its latest Chart Toppers article, GameDaily sat down with Kelley Gilmore, Manager of Marketing and Media at Firaxis, to discuss what make the game so successful. Gilmore talked about the positive feedback from the communtiy and also praised 2K Games for the marketing effort. Here is a quote:
2K Games did a tremendous job marketing Civilization IV. From the trailers to the advertising to the PR, it was all incredibly well done, by a very savvy group of marketers," said Gilmore. "We'd have to say the CivAnon campaign (http://www.civanon.org/
) was probably the piÃ¨ce de rÃ©sistance of the whole marketing effort. 2K worked with their New York based ad agency RDA, to create a clever, unique, off-the-wall, and really funny pre-release campaign with CivAnon, that appealed to the hardcore civ community as well as those folks new to the game. It created quite a bit of positive buzz leading up to the launch of the game...and that's always a good thing!
