File Description

Here is a new map based on Kurt Roges's Earth Map.

And here's what the author has to say:

The map has been created by Kurt Roges "Earth Map - Huge 217x119 - civ4_krearth_217x119.zip ". Which i used to add cities and everything else. There are 18 civilisations, which are situated somewhere in the 20th century, each having its proper technologies (varies) and its array of beginning units. Cities are real world cities at the real places. The whole catch is that only 5 civs control the worlds oil ressources which are Persia, Arabia, Russia, South America (H.Capac) and England and one barbarian state near persia, So having the oil ressource will 1- cost you a lot of money 2-necessite you to go to war. If you go to war for oil, you'll principally rely on infantry/marine units ! It is indeed reality because the oil you don't have is only for military purpose in this game and you need lots of oil to work a big mechanized military in the real world!

OVERALL DESCRIPTION :

CIVS DESCRIPTION : (in parentheses is the amount of oil it controls)

England (1), America(0),Japan(0),France(0),Russia(3), germany(0) are the most advanced civs in the game. Huyana Capac is South America(2+1nearby), Persia is Iran+Irak(4),Saladin is UAE+qatar+Koweit+Saudi (4), Mansu Musa is Africa (0)(needs science development early), Mongolia is Thailand+Vietnam+Birmania(0), India is india(0), China is China(0), Alexander is East Europe (0), Egypt is Egypt (0), ...

The advanced civs have some mechanized units (tanks mostly), US+England+France+Japan+Germany have some mechanized infantry, and some have navy. Others have infantry or machine guns. Even if you have some units you may not be able to build them early on because of lack of oil or of technology.

STRATEGY DESCRIPTION : Change civics early on.

If you're Arabia or Persia build a solid defense, your wells are producing and ready for trade so don't trade them for nothing !! Wait for the best offers and don't forget you may not have the most advanced techs to defend if they come after you with mech infantry or modern armor.

If you're India or China or Mongolia(Thailand etc) develop your military and get oil.

If you're Japan you are the only one to have modern armor so it's a good advantage, but not for long, because you lack oil.
If you're Russia you're quite ok
If you're France, Germany, England, US, you're advanced so build up a good economy and get oil. Don't go to war too soon because you don't have 20 tanks, but only some.
If you're East Europe (Alexander) build workers to boost your land and then go for oil.
If you're South America (huyana Capac) you have lots of cities which will boost your science early on. But not a lot of military!
If you're Egypt or Africa, try to fight each other !
If you're US, you have good producing cities and good advances and good navy with NAVY Seals ready to fight.

There is enough oil for each civ but the problem is that you may lack money to buy it or the other civ doesn't want to trade it to you if they don't like you. Having oil is not necessary early on.

PS: trade technology early on, but beware of trading military techs to those having oil !!! They may easily kill you if you don't have oil yourself !
