rotd_2.4.zip —
Return of the Dawn is a C&C2 Tiberian Sun to C&C Tiberian Dawn Total Conversion. It brings all the stuff from the original C&C to Tiberian Sun, but in better quality, with both completely new and improved graphics. Also, it brings you TDs exceptional gameplay balance, which made it one of the most popular multiplayer games of its time.
This is version 2.x of this Mod. Version 1.0 was released ages ago, at the end of 2002. It 'only' featured new vehicle voxels and the TD gameplay, but - although I called it so - it was not really a total conversion, rather a partial conversion.
Now, with version 2.x, this completely changes. Every aspect of the mod was revamped, there's a new main menu, new sounds, improved and new vehicle graphics, all new building graphics, a new sidebar, even new terrain (!). Just to mention the most important ones.
Return of the Dawn 2.4 (c) 2004 by Reaperrr 1. Introduction Return of the Dawn is a C&C2 Tiberian Sun to C&C Tiberian Dawn Total Conversion. There shouldn't happen anything, but you never know... 3. Requirements In order to play this mod you must have Tiberian Sun installed, and updated it to any 2.0x version. You can reach that by either installing Firestorm or the latest patch (patch 2.03), which can be found on many C&C websites. I don't know what exactly the system requirements are, since my PC is rather high-end; but I think in order to have fluent gameplay, you should have at least 64MB RAM, and a 500 Mhz or faster CPU. On medium/high details, the requirements are probably higher. Don't wonder about the Nuke explosion causing a big FPS-decrease, it even does so on my comp (AthlonXP 3200+, 1 GB DDR400 RAM, Geforce 6800)! Although I enabled all resolutions available in TS, I recommend playing at 800x600 or 1024x768 at best, because on higher resolutions the infantry will be too small. 4. Getting started Return of the Dawn is the first mod for Tiberian Sun to use an 'expansion form'. This means, it works similar to Yuri's Revenge for RA2. It requires the original TS files, but unlike other mods, it does not require any file-renaming/moving or whatever. To install it, all you need to do is to put the files from the zip into the TS directory, then start the game with the 'Dawn.exe'. To uninstall, simply remove the files. That should be: RotD mod files: Dawn.exe DWN.INI rotdxp02.mix rotdxp03.mix rotdxp04.mix rotdxp05.mix rotdxp06.mix README!!.txt install.txt NOTE: Due to different filenames, the mod does NOT affect nor gets affected by original TS, Firestorm or any other mods. 5. Problems & Bugs Although several months were spent on testing and bugfixing, there are still some issues remaining. Some of them can not be fixed easily, some not at all. But most are really small things, most of you might not even realize them while playing. However, there is (as always with new releases) a small chance that there are some problems/bugs that CAN be fixed; so if you find one, please report it. This is a list of problems/bugs that can hardly or not at all be fixed: -Tiberium is black on radar screen. -On some maps, there might be small errors due to the new terrain. -nukes kill every target that gets hit directly. However, because of this we gave it a very long loading time. -the nuclear explosion causes lag, even on fast machines. -in some very rare cases, vehicles can get stuck in front of the airfield. -transport helicopters can transport 1 vehicle as well. Also, if you order them to land they automatically drop their passengers/vehicle. NOTE: Passengers can be paradropped by 'attacking' an enemy unit/building or force-fire on the ground. NOTE: Under some circumstances, you might encounter an internal error for an other reason or the mouse not working. If you've got WinXP, try different compatibility modes. In some other cases, it worked better without any compatibility mode. Just try out yourself. 6. For any questions, go to PPM (www.ppmsite.com), we've got our forums there. Or email me directly ([email protected]). 7. Credits First, I want to thank Jokeman for doing the buildings, the loading screens, the in-game sidebar and the winter terrain. Without him, this wouldn't have been possible. Thanx also to Nyerguds, for the chainlink fence, the new EVA sounds, the exe icon and some other stuff. Special thanks also to Banshee, for hosting the mod and the forums, plus for making SHP Builder and the Palette editing tools.
