it better be, because I'm really getting tired of all the expansions.

 #2 - Posted by: typhon1023 (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 08:37
its clearly is the last one because NIDs and deamon hunters are the only races left and i doubt they're putting nids on the same engine....they need DOW 2....i need it....we all do...like #1 said im really getting tired of the expansions...

#3 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 08:52
well... I mean soulstorm sounds good, Its just that the graphics were top of the line when it came out, but now they just suck.

#4 - Posted by: Kouen (Staff) on 01-17-2008 at 08:54
Graphics don't really make the game. Sonic The Hedgehog still kicks the hell out of most of today's games, and that's a 16-bit game.

#5 - Posted by: dowfan (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 09:09
lol graphics dont mean jack there cool and fun to play .I have been playing these dow games for years and online since wa and i dont play games as much as this its just one of those games that u can keep playing.I think if they bring out dow 2 the graphics and stuff will be better but some people will be expecting miracles and expecting far to much.

#6 - Posted by: Saekhor (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 09:13
..erm right.. ..DOW has a 32-bit graphics on the game if you didnt bother actually looking.. ..secondly, Dawn of War Soulstorm is NOT the last DOW because they will put Tyranids in and thats direct! ..all they need is time and just waiting is painful, I know, but we have to.. ..so STOP whining about that there isn't going to be another game, because there is after DOW Soulstorm! *smiles*...I'll guess I'll leave you people to your whining then. ..good evening gentlemen.

#7 - Posted by: cyclocius (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 09:13
Well, since I'M still DLing the demo, I'm gonna say, maybe a new game, not an expansion, and put the custodians in it!

 #8 - Posted by: killswitch666 (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 09:18
well thats ure opinion but if i know relic there going to keep spamming out dawn of war expansions because it is their best seller so far and lots of people play it so expect to see more of them soon :(

 #9 - #4 - Posted by: PSIN (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 09:33
I agree. DOW, as is, will probably go down in history as one of the great RTS games of the century. Or at least the first that GW released worth playing. But it's kinda running in circles at this point. Nobody is going to keep buying top of the line technology from 5 years ago. Furthermore, we're not talking about a blue gerbil who runs real fast for donuts. We're talking about a spin off of a deeply non-rule 34 fluff world, with decades of info describing it in elaborate detail. It's potential is enormous and the current engine, while cool, does not do it justice.

#10 - Posted by: KealaMenshaKhaine (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 09:55
it was announced on wikipedia it was going to be the last expansion

#11 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 10:04
thank you #9 thats exactly what I was trying to say.

#12 - Posted by: Lanf (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 10:37
I agree that this better be the last expansion. The engine has had its day, and there are plenty of features that would make the game far greater, that are already availible in other engines now. DOW is a good game 'n' all, but i think its pretty early to say game of the century, we have just under 92 years to go yet. Even with in this decade, its very noteworthy, but not quite top tier material I'd say. And I think you'll find graphics do mean something, you try playing a text only RTS... I reckon, when DOW2 finally comes out, we'll probably look back and wonder what we we're thinking with DOW, because it just becomes obselete, where as true legends, are timeless. Also, HOW DARE YOU compare this game to Sonic, its very insulting to the legendary series it once was. This, doesnt come close.

#13 - Posted by: blammord (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 10:38
Well, honestly i doubt they´ll bring out more expansions. Besides, what new can they bring now? Besides of course other races, what can they put in? I think its more likely they´ll either start making a DoW2 or drop the DoW series and focus on something else. However, dropping such a succesful series as DoW seems rather unlikely : P

 #14 - 12 - Posted by: PSIN (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 11:13
I digress. Game of the century is extreme even against current old skool titans like starcraft and homeworld. I apologize. Although it's a staggering leap from Firewarrior, Final Liberation, and chaos gate. Both in quality and graphics. And for the record, sonic I just as good in 16 bit as 128 bit. It's a platformer and a cult. You could put sneakers on a blue colleco vision cube, have it collect mushrooms real fast, and call it sonic and people would play it. Graphic increases in DOW would allow further submersion in the 40k world, where the visual aspect and attention to detail are the make or break boundary between it and all other rts games of it's kind. Graphic increases in sonic only serve to increase ones submersion in the graphic details of rule 34 fanfic. Yuck. :r

#15 - Posted by: dowfan (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 11:28
#13 after putting in the last of the races they could try and add the different factionsto chaos for example thousandsons and ig ect.. alot of people who play tt and read all the stuff on warhammer 40000 would love that i would plus they could add more units in as well theirs still alot they can do

 #16 - Posted by: Eldernesh501 (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 15:17
i agree wit 1 new engine and they kinda stuffed it wit to many races like thers9 races and can only have 8 players max big flaw and new engine for NIDS thewse expantions ar a cheap way of makin money and u pay like 100$ for all multi player races !!!

#17 - Posted by: EuphoricAcid (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 15:30
i like the expansions myself. I wouldn't mind another one with more units for each faction actually... like Eldar dire avengers and Ork kommandos. I really like dawn of war and all the expansions... respect it, don't be so crazed for a sequel... although It would be nice tho

#18 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 15:35
Wikipedia? Really? Oh man, I'm sold on that. Personally, I hope they don't make DoW in the CoH engine, it would ruin it, but a newer engine would be good, all DoW really needs is a campaign like EaW where you can fight in space and control what units you make and all, or make a Dawn of War Online. That would be nice, you can do whatever you like and it makes it more personal, but the best would be a cross between the Lord of the Rings and Empire at War, with DoW graphics, so you actually care about what happens to your army, and you don't just spam like in Kronus.

#19 - The end of an Era - Posted by: Fallen_Sword666 (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 17:23
I don't think it'll be the last expansion i KNOW it'll be the last expansion thanks to my sources it's sad, really: no sub-races, no tyranids, no alien hunters, no apocalypse-style expansion and ESPECIALLY no changing of the whirlwind's rockets *sigh* There was SO much more they could add to Dawn of War and yet they decide not to

#20 - Posted by: dowfan (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 17:25
no one said it was the last dow game ever

#21 - Posted by: Daniiren (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 19:11
Ok, no nids, it just plain ain't done. period. end of story. until there are nids, the game will not be considered complete.

 #22 - Posted by: shikari7 (Member) on 01-17-2008 at 20:29
After so many expansions already, the game has run its course. In the DoW universe there are changes with units and rules/game types every day. There are alot of customizable options to armies today and i dont think just one game can fit it all. i think there will be more to expect and anticipate from the DoW series.

 #23 - Posted by: Hrtbrk1 (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 01:38
Is SoulStorm the last expansion to DOW? YES. Will it be the last DOW? NO. We need a new game engine that will take in the nids, Sub races like the space marines chapters (eg blood angels, space wolves etc) as well as different IG regiments and different Choas factions etc with each one having its own unique units and abilites fluff wise from the TT. Perhaps add what 18 said with Empire at war style space battles and the like. BTW 1) WTF are people making comparisons to Sonic the hedgehog and Dow for? Seriously. I really dont see the point. 2) I believe that there is a WarHammer 40k MMORPG (maybe a First Person shooter with RPG elements like STALKER) currently in development. Apparntly the website for it should be up soon

 #24 - Posted by: Droids_Rule (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 07:29
I really really hope it will be the last expansion and THQ get's their rears and gear and makes the DoW2 we've all been waiting for, along with TYRANIDS OMGPLZIWANMAHNIDS.

#25 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 07:58
I stand by what i said in yesterday's PoTD: "DoW2 is gonna be the next game (I'm guessing) ... no more expansions to DoW just DoW2. It would be pretty pointless to release another expansion after this one - there's only one major race left and we all know what that is... I'm also gonna guess that DoW2 is Vista only compatable..."

#26 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 08:20
Oooh, good, I'd love a MMORPG for 40k maybe an admin will post up the link to the site when it comes out?

#27 - Posted by: asu (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 11:05
DoW is dated, plus there will be no Nids except Relic does a DoW2. No further expansions.

 #28 - Posted by: Grand_Master_Bean (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 11:18
erm, i thought we knew there was to be another expansion?? when the rumours of soulstorm came out they said there would be further epansions!!

#29 - Posted by: smede (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 14:02
from what i heard they dont want to put the tyranads onto the current engine because they are more than 4 jointed, so they will most likley either do DOW 2 or not make a new one at all

 #30 - Tyranids - Posted by: Dark_Whispers (Member) on 01-18-2008 at 18:23
The Tyranids are the most complex race in the 40k univers (i know cause i used to play them on the table top) so they will most likely make a DoW2 cause of all the rules the Nids have like synapse, living ammunition, and spore mine clusters to name a few. The Nids are one of the hardest races to use on the table top alone and what if they make it like star wars: empire at war? Theres more rules and effets to add(but that would be prity cool).

 #31 - Posted by: Hrtbrk1 (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 02:25
If they do make a DOW2 I soooooooo do hope that it wont be for Windows Vista. Becasue Windows Vista is abosolute S***

 #32 - ok... - Posted by: DarkReeper93 (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 03:58
I dont think there is going to be an expansion after Soulstorm :( ... ... ... ... ... DoW2 makes up for it :beer:

#33 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 05:25
#31 We're all hoping, but seeing as DoW2 is gonna be a next-gen 40k RTS, it's pretty unlikely that it won't be made for Vista...

 #34 - Posted by: Alpha001 (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 05:26
i think there going to milk DoW for as long as possible

#35 - Posted by: TheDuhMan (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 08:28
i dont think that this will be the last one, i mean they still have to include the 'nids and daemon hunters plus the lost and the dammed as official playable races, so this cant be the end of it, at least, not for now

#36 - Remember last year? - Posted by: HappyMrAdrian (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 09:05
everyone said that Dark Crusade was going to be the last expansion and now they are putting out Soulstorm. To be honest I would rather have had them not announce Soulstorm and put that time into working on DOW2.

 #37 - New Commander Pics - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 09:48
Got these pics from Spartan_385, 3 new commanders: Chaos (Alpha Legion) : http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g54/dreddnott/chaoslord1.jpg Imperial Guard (?) : http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g54/dreddnott/igcaptain1.jpg Space marines (Blood Ravens) : http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g54/dreddnott/smfc1.jpg I doubt that they'll risk releasing yet another expansion after the response they're getting from this one, 3 expansions is pushing it already. I hope the reason why SS looks so rushed and incomplete is that it's just something to tide us over while they work on DOW2.

 #38 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 11:02
If anyone wants first hand evidence of the new stufff in the game go to C:/Program Files/THQ/Dawn of War - Soulstorm Demo/Profiles/Profile1/dxp2, and open KEYDEFAULTS.lua with notepad, it gives lists of all the abilities, units, buildings, research and upgrades for all the races. I'm reading it right now, the SoB abilities look pretty cool.

 #39 - no - Posted by: mosher123 (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 15:02
they should keep doing expansions until they get every single unit in warhammer 40k :borg:

 #40 - no - Posted by: mosher123 (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 15:04
um really they should make a dawn of war 2

#41 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-19-2008 at 18:09
They might just make another expansion with no new races but lots of new units? That would be weird.

#42 - you do know relic isnt the one makeing soulstorm right? - Posted by: Kamino (Member) on 01-20-2008 at 02:16
you do know relic isnt the one makeing soulstorm right?

 #43 - Posted by: armageddon643 (Member) on 01-20-2008 at 14:16
you know what I think we need is a w40k first person shooter other than fire warrior and those other ones but realy it dose get quite anoying having to send troops here and thier and then whan thier in combat they dont even take cover. anyway I dont think thier will be any more expansion packs because theyve got nearly every race an w40k in the game already. Probly the only thing they could add to it to make it better are Titans:D.

Shut up with all the spoilers XD

 #46 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 08:31
okay, better than me posting every little detail, go to DXP2 and open the SGA and UCS files with notepad, a few are packed of information about the game.

 #47 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 08:35
Specifically, the best ones are DXP2.UCS (this has the wargear listings in, and some responses and text) and DXP2_VO.UCS (this has info on the campaign, the races descriptions and objectives, and the scripts for most of the special territories)

#48 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:00
Psh, I say keep the on with the spoilers, especially for those who either have no time, like me, or just don't wanna bother to find this out on their own.

#49 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:01
Oh and, they didn't get very clever with the wargear did they..it's the same as last time, only thing I like is the Khornate Axe  Everything seems to be the same, just different names.

 #50 - soulstorm - Posted by: sgt_simmonds (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:25
this will not be the last mod there are so many more things they can do

 #51 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:29
You misunderstand the poll. Winter Assault, Dark Crusade and Soulstorm have been expansions of the origional game, the poll is asking whether there'll be another expansion or if they'll go staight on to Dawn of War 2 after SS (they almost certainly will)

 #52 - Posted by: sgt_simmonds (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:36
oh yeah soulstorm is going to be thelast expanstionit said on play.com

 #53 - Posted by: sgt_simmonds (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:41
i think they should have space battles and yuo shuld be able to fight on macrrge and craftworlds like they should do the battle of iyden with the tyranids on dof2 if they bring it out they should becase if they dont i will :furious:

 #54 - Posted by: sgt_simmonds (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 12:52
doseany one agree

#55 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 13:07
Clearly nobody even cares, let alone agree, the only thing that has any effect is space battles, it'd be fun as hell, but it would introduce something new to DoW, and it would bring on even more noobs..

#56 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-21-2008 at 16:52
#55 Lol i get ur point, but more noobs isn't ALL bad... noobs = cannon fodder And about the space battles... let's just say that yes, it would be more fun than being stoned with a sniper rifle, but space's taking it too far. It's like you said, it would be completely new to DoW - once you start space battles, you would have to continue it until there's nothing else to do... once one space battle is made, there would be a demand for more units etc. Plus the PC engine requirments would be through the roof...

 #57 - Posted by: U_C_S (Member) on 01-22-2008 at 01:57
I hope they ADD Space battles to the game so i don't have to play homeworld2 any more not that is a bad game. But a Warhammer 40k space battle WAHO is all i can say

#58 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-22-2008 at 08:56
Warhammer 40k space battles would only be good as an entirely different game in my opinion

#59 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-22-2008 at 11:23
Space noobs ftw? A whole new game for space would be nice, if not just totally awesome, for one thing, you'd get noob spammed, I just know it, and it would have to be space only, that would be sweet, since then they'd have to concentrate on just space, not land and stuff, if they just did it on space it would be much better.

#60 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-22-2008 at 14:23
If someone DID make a 40k space-only game, it would probably be something like "Star Wars: Empire at War", with some sick features... eg. game as a whole is an RTS, but in-game you can switch to 1st person in the cockpit of your Cmmander or something... a bit like "Rise and Fall: Civilisations at War"

#61 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-22-2008 at 14:23
Lol this is so off-topic...

#62 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-22-2008 at 14:43
Lol, technically it's not, since we're discussing DoW, but anyways, if they did make it like EaW it would be way better, since they could take out all the ground concepts out of it, that would be sweet, and you could build your own fleet and such, and different races would get different special abilities, like Marines boarding and stuff, and IG would get superior numbers and bigger, stronger fleets. Orks would..boarding? I don't know what they do.

#63 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 01-23-2008 at 09:10
Orks would just fire... everything... at anything... Anyway it would be soooo cool if when you boarded you could battle through the ship to take control of it in standard RTS view... except you wouldn't start with a HQ, just the units (or army) you decided to board with

#64 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-23-2008 at 09:22
Lol yeah, maybe IG get more ships but not in numbers, but in variety? And Orks are the ones with mass numbers of ships..boarding actions in RTS would be awesome

 #65 - Posted by: sgt_simmonds (Member) on 01-23-2008 at 11:45
bean the space battles would be fun but so would moveing to fight on macrrage

#66 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 01-23-2008 at 12:07
Not really, it won't make much difference if they make it just be space battles, unless the planet gives you a special bonus or something.

 #67 - Posted by: compadict12 (Member) on 01-25-2008 at 08:55
it'd better not be the last, they stil,l have the nids to add at the least. I hate how fek loads of people are saying that the moddrees are getting riped off now because they have added these races (well not DE asfar as i know). I personal feel that the makers of the game have every right to go with these races but id rather they cose to do full blown witch hunters or nids than SoB. If you love 40K then get soulstorm even if your not happy with the new race selections, you can always play mods any way, or even 1 of the old races.
