well even if relic dont release mods tools some one else will

I hope they will release some. But, as far as things are going, I don't think that developpers want mods. They don't want people to make for free the work they'll make

I hope they do take seriously how many mods (and maps) have been made for DOW1. I think it expands the interest in the game exponentially when there is flexibility. Honestly I would have never played DOW1 if it hadn't been for some friends who were really excited about it since certain maps and mods allowed for the particular game style they liked. As good as DOW2 is, you will never make everyone perfectly happy with just one set of rules - people just are different! By making a game that is friendly with modding, you are really selling much more than a game but an entire toolset allowing for creative game creation. Believe me, if DOW2 were modable, in a short time there would be people buying their own copy just so they could play a particular mod. I personally find that making scenarios is even more fun than gameplay, and there must be other wierdos like me out there, but this whole dimension is lost if there aren't any tools. Sure, someone may figure out a way to do it anyway but that would make it a whole lot harder and much fewer people would be able to get into it. The bottom line that benefits Relic is the total number of people who buy their software, and I can see a lot more getting into it with a good set of mod tools.

welll they might as well people mod regarless of tools if they release mod tools it willl stop people killing their game. dow 1 says in relic FAQ" we work close with the comunity and alow mods" (or something along those lines) why not let this be true for dow 2?

Relic would be killing off the main appeal of PC gaming if there isn't mod tools.

Personally, the mods and maps on this site are the only reason I still play DOW. The novelty of the first 2 games wore off after a month. the second 2 after a couple of weeks. fortunately there is enough material out there to keep it new and interesting. DOW 2 is a pretty short game anyway. They really need modders to bridge the interest gap between releases.

I've already found mods for DOW2 on the relic forums. It makes no sense not to, because people will mod it anyways.

Normally...they have no choice. A good Game lives on mods! But Steam is not the best condition, for Mods :/

Why should steam not be good for mods, you can install mods in steam too...

If they want DoW2's lifespan to last half of what DoW 1's was, then they will add mod tools or at the very least a map editor the amount of multi player maps is laughable and pretty soon people will get bored of them

"the amount of multi player maps is laughable and pretty soon people will get bored of them" Not just laughable Alpha001, but criminal.

11 ans 12 are right, the amount of maps is truly disgusting and i am actually 30% dissapointed with dow 2 in general the campaign was somewhat repetitive. i lost almost total intrest when i vsd the avatar of khaine the amount of maps is bad, the playability for the average computer of dow2 is BAD. overall i hope those expansions come fast. i really looked forward to dow 2 but i shall not abandon hope! by the emperor there will be salvation. mark my words we shall have our maps! ( and i hope they add in zombie .....ugh i mean tyranid space hulk mode! :P)

they'll be doing a lot in dlc anyway, they may not think mods neccessary poll idea: which dowfiles user would you most like to meet in real life?

#15 - Posted by: Andreaz (Member) on 03-13-2009 at 11:27
Jaon, I was totally surprised when I discovered there were almost no skirmish maps. I just couldn't believe it. I really felt cheated. In the case of DoW2 we pay a lot of dollars for a lot of game engine bling bling and very little actual game it seems. I wonder why nobody mentioned this in the reviews. It's appalling and shameless. It is the first ting I noticed and I was shocked. And the linearity of the campaign level design bored the hell out of me too. I stopped playing it. I'm back to Dow 1. So Mod tools are very, very necessary to make something out of this game. The way it is now, is a big let down.

@ Andreaz I agree, its like they spent too much time worrying about the graphical side of things (I'll admit it was done well) but the campain was not engaging, was linear and you only ever did one of two things. - Defend Generators against a few swarms of orcs/nids/eldar - Work your way to the top of the map and kill the eldar/orc/tyranid boss All while only getting a choice to use 4 units out of like 5 ish. Its much less engaging, and you cant make your own units. ------------------------------------- Skirmish

 #17 - Posted by: Alpha001 (Member) on 03-17-2009 at 07:20
Sorry for double Post Teacher started talking - Skirmish, theres very few maps, but there all done quite well. You can have epic battles still, just not with the mass amount of units you would have had in DoW Vanilla. It is a lot more tactiical and engaging compared to the first one, and DoW2's campain. Although the AI sucks ass. You havent played DoW2's skirmish untill you have played with and against people. The amount of maps will get boring very quickly though

#18 - Posted by: ironsonhunters (Member) on 03-17-2009 at 22:01
they need more standoff skimishs and mods im already bored of the game and ive had it for 2 weeks there is 2 little 2 do and camp gets boring after a certian part were it just gets 2 repeitive except for the last mission which rocked

 #19 - Posted by: Disease_61 (Member) on 03-19-2009 at 04:23
i don't think they will. once there done with a game, there done for good.

#20 - Posted by: lordbones (Member) on 03-21-2009 at 09:00
Unless they release tools for the game I believe interest in it will die very quickly. I was very dissapointed in this game and expected better things of it. Although very pretty, it just seems like an exercise in trying to generate more bucks. I've gone back to playing dow 1 which has such a rich and still active community.

#21 - Posted by: katerosk (Member) on 03-21-2009 at 10:49
They will add mod tools because THQ has a major economic problems and maybe the DoW 2 will not have any expancion in the feature.

#22 - Posted by: thelostandsinful (Member) on 03-23-2009 at 08:10
the amount of maps is terrible yes, but i hate the new system all together, no base building and such a small amount of units to choose from the scale of dow1 is what made it so awesome, just hundreds of orks smashing against a line of space marines, thats 40k guys thats what made it awesome if they could change dow2 to have the mechanics of dow1, except now there are better graphics and a new cover system....my god that would be fantastic that should be the first big mod...i want to see firestorm over kronus for DoW2 lol :P
