I prefered the DC campaign. Vanilla DoW is in close second for me, but the meta map idea for DC was something I had never come across before, and the combination of unique wargear, world bonuses and the freedom to do practically whatever you wanted made my most enjoyed campaign yet.

youd have to be a starcraft fan to vote for anything besides Dawn Of War Vanilla

Defeitly the Dawn of War campaign. It had story, it had many good reasons to play and move on to the next mission, all of the missions where cool and had a nice addition to the story at the end. What absolutely shocked and suprised me was that they just left it at: Blood-Raven-Force-Comander-Unleashes-Deamon-That-Will-Claim-Everyone. Without succesors or anything. That was... disapointing. Winter Assault was nice, it was made with effort and the campaign gave you a chance to play from different points of view. It had no "fancy pants wargear" but it had a good story, it was sadly here, that the necrons where introduced and focus was taken away from chaos. The Dark Crusade map is exactly as the Cossacks II map, recuit troops, click on a territory, attack, win, get attacked and repeat. So there was nothing new there, the wargear was kinda lame as in the end when you practicaly won territories by sending your honor guard to attack the base WITHOUT the need of your ultra mega comander. Soulstorm was just pure lauhging, I am suprised that it was actualy called "a game", it was lame, the meta maps design was ridiculus, the wargear even so, it had a few buggs and the new DE and Sisters of Battle moddels REALLY sucked. Anyways, thats my opinion on the fact.

I gotta say winter assault cause it gave me the HAMMER of the Emperor, the Imperial Guard... And of course their tanks........ ALL GUARDSMEN FOLLOW ME INTO GLORY! or... I'D DIE FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!! ....not enough to convince you lot?

 #5 - o.. and mind you... - Posted by: Roy_sal (Member) on 12-01-2008 at 19:34

i loved the winter assault campaigns the most, vDoW campaign was kinda bland, DC was challenging, but not much storyline, and DO NOT get me started on soulstorm!

Just call it Dawn of War. Vannila sounds gay

 #7 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 12-02-2008 at 07:09

I agree with Wikipedia. I liked the DC campaign the most, I love the ability to customise characters or choose paths through the game, and achievements in particular. DC had all of that for me. Of the other two, DoW was enjoyable, and had a good story to it, but the missions of WA were just very well ddesigned individually, and had great depth. Of course, 'Soulstorm' (In this case I'm forced to acknowledge this expansion exists) should not be viable as an option in this poll, for obvious reasons.

vanilla was best but the concept of dc was brilliant winter assault although hard (4th mission) had best developed gameplay and showed how the ig should have been (not s***y dc imperial guard ) never played soulstorm for 2reasons : exactly the same as dc dc was better heard its a grindfest sob to powerfull and wtf deamonhunters or wichunters were way more popular and cooler but really nids should have been in instead i say again sob wtf? sob WTF??

#9 - Posted by: Dauri (Member) on 12-02-2008 at 09:12

SRRY FOR DOUBLE POST wait thats like 10 reasons  ohh well

#10 - Posted by: XXXmalice (Member) on 12-02-2008 at 13:28

there were good points to Dow, WA, and DC, SS not so much as its (from my experiance with the campaign at least) just a longer version of DC. i agree with vendre as to in BOTH DC and SS the wargear was pretty pointless all you ever needed were your honor guard units.... all in all i voted WA because all the missions were well thought out and it showed the IG as they were meant to be WA FTW WOOT WOOT!!!!!! *end communication*

 #11 - Posted by: Corbec_UST (Member) on 12-02-2008 at 13:36

Winter Assault was my favorite because it had the Imperial Guard, a storyline, unique mission design, and the ability to play a Chaos Campaign Dark Crusade is 2nd because I thought the story was neat. Had IG and Chaos (DC is not first because EVERY MAP was a skrimish with the exception of the strongholds which were cool only because the commanders talked to each other)

Dawn of War was the only one with a solid story: find the enemies base and kill em WA: You worked WITH the Eldar or Orks?? he IG in real wh40k wouldve gone ''He he fuck no witch!" and destroyed them And Cghaos would've absolutelty anniahlated the Orks DC: The SM's would never kill servants of the imperium because it would be heretical SS: No storyline, poor attack plan, just DC with 2 new races and more planets... Although the SoB and DE are awesome the slow loading time of 10 minutes for a 30 second conquest on a tiny map is pathetic. And in SS and DC you can just send your honor guard and commander forwards to kill the enemy on a basic attack. Oh one last thing... Keeping a stupid ork alive for 3 GAMES is NOT cool...He should'be died 3 times acording to the way i played WA,DC and SS. KILL HIM OFF FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!! C'mon THQ, work it out!

there were other campaigns besides DOW vanilla and WA? OMG I HAD NO IDEA!!!!??? I thought they were training sims, for the online play :D And @ 12 Its not that unusual to see the Imperium work with the eldar, theres actually ancient codes between the inquisition and the eldar that basically mean the eldar helps the Imperium with info while the imperium sometimes sends its finest (generally SM's) to help with some eldar crisis... And sometimes the imperium and the Tau Empire are forced to work alongside one another when dire situations occur... such as a giant hivefleet appearing on their doorstep. :mepimp:

and Gorgutz pwns. no doubt about that. ok, well, Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka is definetly the best, but hes up there ;)

#15 - Posted by: HappyMrAdrian (Member) on 12-04-2008 at 06:48

Definately Winter Assault, since I love the Imperial Guard and Chaos, and WA was the only one that put both in a great story. DC came second for me, mainly because Eliphas was the one competent Chaos Lord in the entire series. Vanilla was a rather dull campaign, basically the 'go from A to B' slugfest for every mission, and to be honest I found Gabriel Angelos boring. There. I said it, Gabriel was terrible. No. #13 I don't know where you heard about the 'ancient codes' between the Inquisition and Eldar, but it sounds like a load of BS to me. Just because there are a handful of alliances out of the thousands of conflicts both sides fight in doesn't mean they don't hate each others guts. Remember 40k is far too GRIMDARK for the races to put aside differences and help each other out.:)

 #16 - Posted by: Zealot2021 (Member) on 12-04-2008 at 19:49

@15. Try reading these books sometime--> Warrior Brood, and Warrior Coven. You'll understand what I'm talking about, and how its not so black and white in the twilight wars that the Inquisition fights, or the imperium, for that matter. Angelos was good character. He had to go through some tough sh**. And after reading the books, which arent that good but meh, you get much more depth from him than any other characters. (although FYI, the ultramarines guarding the Titan Crew are actually Alpha Legion marines that went all "stealthy stealthy" and painted their armor. You learn this in the book). Actually, its funny, even in WA, Sturnn cynically remarks how convenient it was that the marines showed up in the first place.

#17 - Posted by: HappyMrAdrian (Member) on 12-05-2008 at 06:53

Zealot2021, now you've got me intrigued, I'll definately check those first two books out. Gabriel could have been a better character if he was more fleshed out in the actual games, but then again none of the characters in DOW last long enough to warrant a thorough background story. As for the Ultamarines forces guarding the Titan, its about time Alpha Legion did something dastardly deceptive! :D

 #18 - Posted by: kais246 (Member) on 12-05-2008 at 13:45

Painting your armour, very deceptive indeed! DOW then WA then DC and i dont have soulstorm (nor do i plan on getting it :P)

#19 - Posted by: relicholyfire (Member) on 12-05-2008 at 17:55

I chose the original. Although I think they campaign style of WA was the best (story driven but with a bit more replayability), The story of the original was very good IMO and could potentially have been better still. It had 2 of the best characters in the series so far (Sindri and Angelos) and had an amazing cliff hanger that those beepers at relic never bothered to follow up. WA was second. It lacked the storyline of DoW but it had some cool features and I really like the Imperial Guard. DC is just a series of skirmish missions and are very boring. Even the HQ missions are dull as it's just a camp fest and then slowly taking over the map. Only redeeming feature of DC was that Eliphas was the best chaos lord.

 #20 - Posted by: BaxKiller5 (Member) on 12-05-2008 at 18:04

the only thing I have to say that is good(although it could be bad) about SS is that you get all your war gear way before you you get near the end of the campaign. SS is OK in some variations (even though it seems like most of it was copied from DC)

 #21 - Guys.. - Posted by: H3lbring3r (Member) on 12-05-2008 at 20:28

Dark Crusade and Soulstorm are really the same expect 2 more races, Air Vehicles, more maps, instead of one planet to take over it 6 planets and more custom Wargear for Commanders. It really the same.

Dawn of War 2 is different to all of them. It like playing Squad Command

 #23 - Posted by: chaoslordx13 (Member) on 12-07-2008 at 09:01

squad command was fun, just pissed me off when my friends space marine came up and destuyed my tanks with the chainsword, the damn lascannon was useless in that game compared to some of the other weapons.

#24 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 12-08-2008 at 08:25

I'd vote, but I don't play campaign. I'm usually too busy pwning noobs in online multi.

#25 - Posted by: BeanTheKing (Member) on 12-08-2008 at 08:26

I'm sorry, I meant 'naabs'. Not noobs. And DoW has the best campaign 'cause of Angelos, plus the fact that I accidentally played it on hard the first time I ever played DoW is just lul.
