If I can find enough money to achieve a new and more powerfull PC before Spring 2009, I'll surely buy it. THQ and Relic made a great work with DoW, so I'm going to buy the sequel by trust. The screenies and teaser look veeeeery good, after all. Let's wait more details about gameplay, however.. A whole year is so long to pass by.

#2 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 09:25
Is that a question? Of course I would buy it, the only reason why, though, is because it might have Gabriel Angeleous in it. But thats a big if. Well, I'll buy it because its the greatest RTS game ever made, that should be good enough.:p

 #5 - Posted by: general0cobra (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 10:49
i would find out as much as i can before deciding whether to buy it sooner or later

 #6 - of course - Posted by: sage62 (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 11:35
dow is my favorite RTS out there, so I would buy it even if I didn't kwno what they were adding, then add the stuff I have heard that sounds great, and you have adefinatly if my computer can support it, if not then I will have to upgrade, and it will be worth it as Dow is amazing and the sequel should be that much better:rock:

#7 - Posted by: ZombieStomp (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 11:35
i think it's a little early to make a good judgment call, but that doesn't matter to me DOW 2 will be purchased wither or not my rig could run it.

#8 - Posted by: piemanblake (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 14:29
i dont think dow2 is gonna be as demanding on your pc as everyone thinks it is. my pc can run cod4 so im sure that is more than enough to run dow2

#9 - Posted by: disconect (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 14:46
Any true DoW fan would get this regardless.. unless thay have reasons like cant afford and stuff like that

#10 - Posted by: Serefinn (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 15:11

 #11 - not sure - Posted by: Disease_61 (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 15:59
i gotta buy a new graphics card and mabye vista (if it'll only work for that) which'l come out to a couple hundred bucks. but ill buy it anyway and look at the box until i can get it :D

 #12 - Posted by: karang92 (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 16:42

#13 - Posted by: Colonists (Member) on 04-12-2008 at 21:53
OMG WHAT A POLL!!!!!!! still.....a 'special' one.........

 #14 - hell yeah i would - Posted by: rock_dragon (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 03:26
i would deffinetly get DOW2, primarilly because DOW has pushed the requirements of an RTS game higher than ever, plus now that it has new egine (essence 2.0 for those of you who havnt seen it) it will dominate even more, however i hope they remove flyers, they are terrible.

#15 - why would anyone vote no? - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 03:52
honestly?

#16 - Posted by: nanosheep (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 05:36
I hope Gabriel Angelos will be back.

 #17 - Posted by: compadict12 (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 06:10
i cant decide. theres the awsome graphics its gonna have, the (hopefully) tiny lag and sheer awsomeness of DOW. Thene theres the stupid things like: 6 Unit limit per mision stupid idea that orks and SM would for somer reason work together!?!?!?! evidently there may well be fewer races. whilstit'll reduce lag it is why some people buy the expansions, yet alone this game.

 #18 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 06:44
the '6 units per mission' is confirmed only for space marines, we know nothing about playing as orks or the other races. it means it's more fluff-based, unlike DoW 1 where you can have 2 companies of space marines in a battlefield at one time

#19 - Posted by: migitman (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 08:01
hmm 6units for sms sucks :( and if they dont let me ork spam no more ill :'( but if i can ill defintly buy the game :D

 #20 - Posted by: Nod71 (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 08:32
lol ima buy it reguardless but if i cant play it ill have spazums till i can lol:cool:

#21 - Posted by: Shinohai (Member) on 04-13-2008 at 22:14
depends on whether or not vista and dx10 is required, if yes then nope i will not

#22 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 07:11
I actually prefer it that 6 unit way. It would make you think more tactically, and maybe they will increase the damage done by the bolt gun or something like that. Really the sky's the limit with the essence 2.0 engine if you ask me.

 #23 - Posted by: Disease_61 (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 09:18
i wonder if the 6 unit will include just SM, or SM and tanks. still, that sucks ass. (i'll wait till a mod comes out so i can get as many as i want ;) :P)

#24 - Posted by: Kamino (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 09:45
i wont buy it if relic keeps the no 'base building' in dow2 like they said whats a rts without buildings?

#25 - Posted by: Kouen (Staff) on 04-14-2008 at 09:49
An RTS with strategy? I refer you to Sudden Strike II, which was a bad game for various reasons. But it was definitely strategic, I found myself planning attacks and using my troops more carefully because they weren't expendable.

#26 - Dawn of war is for the real gamers - Posted by: IETS567 (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 12:53
I have always thought that the dawn of war serie is for ppl who respect quality, good graphics, adrenaline gameplay, loads of detail, lots of gory stuff and kick-ass animations intead of lame and addictive/smooth gameplay (pointing @ SC). Dawn of war wasnt bad at smooth gameplay at all, but wasnt excelling at it when compared to SC or stuff like . SC does excel when it comes to gameplay, but thats it. When it comes to strategy in SC, you just have a bunch of units (wich are totally ripped off btw) that rely heavily on eachother, pull 1 kind of unit away and the structure collapses. The theme in SC is ripped off from warhammer (oh rly?), its lame, its cute (bleh. CRUSH THE WEAK!) and it has that "pzzzzw, pzzzw, pzzzzw (imitation of a cheap-ass laser), Aaaargh" sci-fi theme wich is is incredible lame and boring. It doesnt have the in-depth, it doesnt have the adrenaline gameplay and theme, its a rip-off, its outdated (when your talking about SC 1 and even at SC 2 i can laugh myself to death if you compare it with DOW 2!). I was never interested in sci-fi, because i thought every sci-fi game contained that lame "pzzzw, pzzzw" theme and was meant for techno nerds (it isnt bad to have that nerdie attitude towards WH40K, because its so brutal and sick it doesnt matter). Warhammer 40k is the only sci-fi franchise wich is brutal enough for me, wtf? IT IS THE MOST brutal franchise ever concieved. Some smart-asses probably will call me a barbarian or a short minded fool, but probably all addicted to SC or some other lame RTS game where addictive gameplay is key-factor and they want to come up with some weak excuses like: gameplay sucks, it doesnt contain good strategy, just weak minded fools they are. Anyway DOW 2 is going to be brutal, even more when they include chaos (the most brutal FACTION ever concieved. And i hope on an even more brutal game. Death to the addictive gameplay junkies! :furious: cheers

 #27 - Waiting for Dow2 AND SC2. - Posted by: In__Hoc__Signo (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 13:37
Wash your mouth before talking of Starcraft. DoW is fantastic, and DoW2 in going to be a great game, but.. Wash your mouth before talking of Starcraft. Again.

Fanboys are at the lowest tier of intellectualism. Please ignore the fanboy, lest your minds become polluted and turn into grey, useless mush. :o There are so many things wrong with that wall of text, it'd be far too easy to blow it apart in the most spectacular fashion possible. I'd feel like I was kicking a sleeping newborn puppy.... =/

 #29 - Posted by: biohazard4 (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 16:04
yeah i would ....i would want them 2 have all the current races that are in soulstorm in it though

 #30 - Read carefully people! - Posted by: Ranger_Logan (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 16:31
6 SQUADS, which means 6 squads of Tactical Marines. Not 6 units; that means you can only build one of these: Scouts, Tactical, Assault, Terminators, Drednought & Predator. You can build only 6 squads of Tactical Marines (those uber dressed up folks that WTFPWN everything) in the campaign only. Regardless of SP/MP I only have 3-4 squads of Tactical Marines on the battlefield.

#31 - Forgot to answer the poll... - Posted by: Ranger_Logan (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 16:34
Of course I will buy it. By the time DoW2 gets out everyone can afford a new uber PC because the prices fall almost 50% in 3 months. Trust me, I know. My video card was $450 in December and I bought it in March with only $200.

 #32 - Graphics update - Posted by: xkalibur99 (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 16:58
if u cant play DOW2 because of graphics card problems get a ATI X1550 it is affordable and is one of the best PCI cards

 #33 - omfg - Posted by: Zealot2021 (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 20:10
who in f***ing gods name would be on this website and NOT think about buying DOW 2? honestly, if that tiny scrap of preview they show in the DOW II website is any judge, i would give quite a bit to have it now, bug free and beautiful. of course, bugs will be there, but hopefully the patching is much better. i hope their zoom feature is still simple, and their close combat interactions are still the same (i was starting to see a resemblance in graphics to C&C III: Tib Wars) *shudders*. they better make orks less shiney. but more flashy bitz! :D

 #34 - orks & SM - Posted by: Zealot2021 (Member) on 04-14-2008 at 20:16
there has been instances where the imperium has contacted the orks (in really strange ways) in order to request a "Cease fire" while they fight a common enemy. generally, this only occurs when they can speak to a warboss whose less apt to add a few heads on his pointy stick, and more apt to hear what the 'umies might give for a cease fire (more flashy bits, bigger gunz, some red painted trukkz). Specially if the possible enemy is something that both "sentiant" races have a fear of (even though orks dont fear, thats precisely the reason they were created to counteract the crons), an enemy such as chaos or nids. but them i may be getting too fluffy. or maybe my information is antiquated. but then again, the blood ravens have been know to engage in activities not aligned with the codex astartes, and i wouldnt put it past them to use the orks as a temp-ally.

#35 - Posted by: Kouen (Staff) on 04-15-2008 at 04:10
There's always bugs. That's not a negative point to a game. When there's bugs and the developer doesn't work on patching them, then it becomes a negative point.

 #36 - seriously - Posted by: WackyModder (Member) on 04-15-2008 at 10:37
what kinda poll is this? THE ANSWER SHUD BE OBVIOUS!!!

 #37 - @34 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 04-15-2008 at 13:54
Orks were around before necrons dude.

 #38 - @37 - Posted by: In__Hoc__Signo (Member) on 04-15-2008 at 14:42
No they were not. Orks were created by the Slann to fight the Necrons during the dreaded dominion of the C'tan over the galaxy XXXXXXXXX millennia ago. The same happened to the Eldar. They actually managed to keep at bay the Necrontyr menace for a while, then the C'tan began to devour each other and the few surviving Star-Gods went to sleep.. Just to awake in recent times and to beguin a new harverst of souls. So, according to fluff, the Greenskins race is old as much as the Eldar one and comes before Homo Sapiens.. (Bloody Mushrooms!)

#39 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 04-15-2008 at 17:12
Fluff wise, yes. Game wise no. Orks were one of the original five races in the game that eighteen years ago. Necrons weren't around until 3rd edition rules. Even the thought wasn't put into action until recent years. Necrons and Tau have always, at least to me, been the most pointless races in the game because GW kind of threw them into the game. Scream at me all you want, thats what I think.

 #40 - Posted by: In__Hoc__Signo (Member) on 04-16-2008 at 00:10
Eh eh! No need of scream, man. Game wise your statement is unremarckable. :)

 #41 - Posted by: Death_korps17 (Member) on 04-16-2008 at 03:22
I would Love to buy the game, but the only thing I thought was stupid that they did with the first DOW was you had to buy the dam expansions to get more races. If that happends again with DOW2 then the would be bull. The only reason they ever do that is to just get some extra $$$$$$. Other then that I think it would be alsome game

#42 - Posted by: TDATL (Member) on 04-16-2008 at 10:58
Doing expansions is fine. In fact it is great if done properly. It was not done properly with WA, DC, or SS. An expansion should be at least of equal quality to the original. Each DoW expansion lacked something the original had or droped the ball somewhere. Their "campaign" has gotten weaker and weaker with each expansion. The balance and gameplay has completely been destroyed. To me they have killed alot of the feel that DoW brought with it. Something as simple as the music. In DoW the music cycled through all the races in game. However, the music of the first four races had a similar feel and tempo to it. Why does Tau music play when I am Space Marines? or when I'm Chaos? Why does necron music play when I am Orks? My biggest gripe with how they did the expansions is a flaw alot of games do. They only "patch" for the latest expansions. Why haven't they patched DC in a year? Do they think it is at a proper level of completeness? If so then I'm not to comfortable with purchasing their products. I'm sure the true answer is they don't care about DC right now. They got their money for it and now they want to work on DoW2. This answer makes me just as uncomfortable with purchasing their products as well. WA isn't really done either and DoW could use some of the engine tweaks that they put into the others. Yet they are being ingored in favor of the "new flash." DoW was one of the best games I have ever bought. However, after following THQs pattern of patching/expansions I am VERY VERY sceptical when it comes to any game with their logo on it. I won't answer this poll because I'm not "yes," "no," or "waiting for reviews." I am "highly doubtful."

#43 - Posted by: conti (Member) on 04-16-2008 at 13:02
It wasn't targeted at you, lol. The only reason I said that is beecause I always get flak when I ever say anything about a race.

 #44 - Posted by: compadict12 (Member) on 04-16-2008 at 13:12
One majer thing about the 6 unit thing is if the follwing senario or something similar happens: Im quite hapily ploding along with my SM troops when sudenly BOOM! A baneblade come lumbering around the corner, unleasing "elven barrles of hell" and uterly anhilolating my troops. Granted I could (proboly) upgrade my squads with AT guns but by the time they have upgraded and opened fire, the tank has decimated my troops and, because of the six unit limit I can't build more.

#45 - Posted by: Eidolon (Member) on 04-16-2008 at 14:01
the only reason i put wait for some reviews is im afraid of it being COH in space. I would hate to throw £30 away for a crappy game in a nice setting

#46 - Posted by: Jaon (Member) on 04-17-2008 at 01:35
well duh!!!! i am gonna talk my head of about this 1. these expansions, stand alone or not are funking me off big time, the game is loosing its skillz 2. well this is kinda against my point but, it sounds to me like DoW2 is gonna be squad command ( the game, not the strategy) like and that sucked, but i guess one computer squad command would have more potential. 3. RTS HEEEELLLL YEEAAAHH!!!!! 4. W40K HEEELLLL YEAAAAHHH!!!!!! 5. ( most likely ) will have better graphics and btter strategys, and i like the idea of mostly - just infantry coz h8 it when u make army of expensive units and then a skyray just poos all ovr them with missiles. 6. i hope resources are hard to make ( with the excpetion of quick start for those people who are just into fighting and not waiting and waiting and waiting) or at least take longer, instead of generating a billion per second without any work involved. 7. i hope it is more authentic to tabletop with the inclusion of units like devastators, and has a built-from-scratch engine to further prevent them from just remaking DoW1. 8. screw air and see units, they suck 9. TAAAKE COVERRRR!!!! OH NOES!!! THERE IS NONE! i hope their is more cover because of the strategy the game creates, every squad lost is an old friend lost. 10. i hope in campaign there is a memorial commemorating every squad and there name who died at the end of the mission 11. instead of medals, on multiplayer u should be able to gain points and with those points prebuy better units before battle ( if u dont have points u can still choose ur army, just not as good asif u did have points) plz add more suggestions!

 #47 - omgomgomgomgomgomgomg - Posted by: DarkReeper93 (Member) on 04-17-2008 at 05:40
OF COURSE! I am going to buy DoW2! but the 6 (was it?) squads limit sucks (in my opinion) but i really think there will be a mod to that limit. i hope the DoW2 makes as huge impression to me as the first one :D its gonna ROCK!!!:rock:

#48 - Posted by: Meawir (Member) on 04-17-2008 at 11:08
46# Yeah they better make a completly new base-constructed engine for it... But I can't immagine they wouldn't. If they don't I doubt it'll be worth anything. Crysis engine.. Now see THAT would be graphics... Specially thinking it's a strategy game^^ Anyways, I'll need some more intel on the game before I buy it. God, did i just use a military term for a normal conversation......... Playing CoD4 too much... War games all in all tbh xD

 #49 - direct x 10 FOR XP - Posted by: chaoslordx13 (Member) on 04-17-2008 at 13:24

#50 - Posted by: Andreaz (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 01:00
I love the warhammer 40k universe and the DoW series. I do have my doubts about DoW 2 though. What worries me is that Relic seems to scale the game down. The maximum number of squads in DoW2 is only six. I wonder if this includes armored vehicles. I was hoping they would follow the direction that can be seen in mods like DowXp and Firestorm. Firestorm is fluffier, has more interesting options, and has greatly expanded upon the unit types for all races. And all units are true to scale. If (I say IF) the Tyranids are in DoW2 then 6 squads is not enough for me. And six squads for the green ork tide doesn't feel right either. From the little I've seen in the Dow2 screenshots I can conclude that for example tanks like the SM Predator are still to small compared to the infantry. But I'll most likely buy this game anyhow. Although I do not agree with the direction they seem to take with it, I strongly believe Relic will succeed in making a kickass game anyhow.

#51 - Posted by: lolaroflmao (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 01:30
As long as the Single player Campaign is better than the one in soulstorm....biggest let down ever

#52 - Posted by: Hubbydubby (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 05:30
seriously, we need some more original polls, anyway, soulstorm was a big letdown but the screenies and video are awesome, graphics and detail look extremly well done. As a hardcore DoW fan I am defiantly buying it.

#53 - Posted by: Hubbydubby (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 05:33
sorry for double post, but it says six squads selectable, in other words, you can have more than six squads but only have six selectted any a tie. Do people still read?

#54 - Posted by: Hubbydubby (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 05:38
oh sorry my mistake turns out I was wrong, it says control I must have interprated it as select ;)

#55 - Posted by: Meawir (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 06:00
49#.. Yeah you can PLAY DX10 games.. But you can't use dx10... Going dx9 instead^^

#56 - system reqs - Posted by: carloskis (Member) on 04-18-2008 at 21:44
even though it looks like CoH maybe the reqs are higher, so i'll wait for the reviews Da mekz made me a cybork!!! :borg::borg::borg:

 #57 - Posted by: Grand_Master_Bean (Member) on 04-19-2008 at 10:32
seriously, why vote no?? but a lot people will need better PCs :) Hopefully x64bit vista, 2 gb ram and nvidia geforce 8400 (the largest that would physically fit in my PC) will be enough

#58 - Posted by: DesertFoxVIII (Member) on 04-20-2008 at 21:39
hahahaha, good point #57. Kind of a silly question to post on a DoW site ;) but yes, the screenies look amazing, I'll definitely purchase it.

 #59 - Posted by: Grand_Master_Bean (Member) on 04-21-2008 at 10:54
just a bit like going to a dating site and asking "who's single" :p

 #61 - Money - Posted by: Kevin_ncc_1701 (Member) on 04-21-2008 at 16:31
I would but i need some money first XD

 #62 - Posted by: general0cobra (Member) on 04-22-2008 at 04:36
i have a therory, the limit of 6 is probably only for troops as in TT you have 2 HQ, 6 Troops, 3 Fast attack, 3 Elites and 3 Heavy support. so relic are making the game closer to TT

 #63 - Posted by: compadict12 (Member) on 04-22-2008 at 10:28
yea but then (no ofence 2 any 1) the TTRU mod suked cause everything was shit weak. Aparently it was acurate to the TT game so if it is more TT based its units will suk:( On another note #60, some cant afford it, some think it will be crap and some simply CBA any more

#64 - im iffy - Posted by: wez (Member) on 04-22-2008 at 15:24
im abit iffy cuz i herd there is no building u get like a squda and a tank that u can call in and things like that no building units...but maybe porkies but ide get it either way

#65 - why people vote no.... - Posted by: mac_man (Member) on 04-22-2008 at 17:12
probably the same people who are as dissatisfied as i am with soul storm. if they make dow 2 like they did SS, i know im not buying it. but if they go at it with a newer angle and not just fancy models that were already done by mod teams, ive already bought it. any way its pointless to disscuss this until some hardcore reviews come out. if they start from scratch with the races *IE only sm, chaos, eldar, orks* ill kill someone.

#66 - Posted by: carloskis (Member) on 04-22-2008 at 19:53
srry 4 doub post but yeah i agree mac man. i hope they have IG

 #67 - Posted by: 1000thSon (Member) on 04-23-2008 at 06:13
seeing as it's not going to be released until at least 2009, and soulstorm was a complete disaster, I'm just going to be playing GTA IV 'til DoW2 comes out.

 #68 - Posted by: Eldernesh501 (Member) on 04-23-2008 at 18:50
i no im probly gonna get pegged for this but i realy hope they dont make it were it takes like 50 bolter rounds to kill a guy and guys can go down in a few hits i realy hope they dont make it were arty is useless and everybody goes flying then gets up and act as if nothing happend

 #69 - Posted by: small_pirate (Member) on 04-24-2008 at 09:29
Yeah i'd go for this

#70 - Posted by: izarian (Member) on 04-25-2008 at 12:19
Gotta love a game that has shiny Orks!

#71 - Posted by: izarian (Member) on 04-26-2008 at 20:14
The 6 marines taking on an army approach is good, because fluff wise etc, that is what it's like. As long as he boltguns do the damage they are supposed to (look at the stats in the codex), then cool. But at the same time, I've spent over 2k marines, which is more than a chapters worth in one battle. As long as the campaign is realisic I don't care...skirmish should give you more freedom. Imma gonna buy it regardless. Tthe only opinion that counts to me is me!

 #72 - ??? - Posted by: Zealot2021 (Member) on 04-26-2008 at 20:37
WHY IN GODS NAME ISNT THERE MORE PEOPLE ONLINE. enuff caps. Honestly, there seems to be such appeal to Dawn of War, yet i get online, and can only find at most 250 people. dont get me wrong, its all good, but it seems kinda sparce sometimes... like at 4 am in the morning... but maybe all of you have avoided insomnia *cheers to you*

#73 - Posted by: TDATL (Member) on 04-27-2008 at 05:31
@72 thats because thats all thats left. 250 people are more than enough to make it seem like people are still very much into the game.. on forums. However, you must realise this game is spread over 4 titles and tons of mods. Not to mention many people have gotten fed up with lamespy and use private hamachi networks or the like. I personally stoped playing online after WA. DC's "balance" (read disaster) was more than enough to persuade me that it wasn't worth it to try and keep playing online. Thats ignoring the many new games that have sense come out to pull people away and the fact that the online community was far from the best to start with. people far to hung up on stats ruined the game for alot of people as you couldn't get a game half the time. when you did get one, lamespy would decide to drop a player or two for you and so on. Just looking at the lobby chat/spam/swear-word-of-the-millisecond makes me want to log off the second I log in. take your pick from the above for your reason why there is noone online.

Ok even with the uber graphics im sure the game is gonna be dx9 and 10 and u can tone down graphics anyway. There using the 2.0 version of the coh engine. Also 6 squads is only for marine squads so u can still make terminators, tanks other crap

@ #76 Yes the graphics look great, but I'm very pleased with the graphics in DoW as they are. I'm more concerned about the gameplay. I'd like to see a DoW PLUS. I mean DoW2 with all current races PLUS Tyranids. All current units PLUS most missing ones. Improved and larger maps. Weapons fire blocking terrain. PLUS some of the cool tweaks that the community mod teams came up with, like the Heroes mod. Enhanced AI.True to scale units (like in the firestorm mod). I'd like to see an improved/enhanced sophisticated pre-game menu system, an improved and more sophisticated HUD etc. etc. And perhaps some interesting new features. This is what I would like to see in a game worthy of the title Dawn of War 2. I'm not looking for a DoW2 that has greatly improved graphics, but has LESS races, LESS units, LESS squads, SMALLER maps, armored vehicles that are too small etc. etc. It looks like this is the direction DoW2 is taking now. Yes, I will buy it anyhow, because it is going to be a great game I'm sure, but it's not what I am really looking for. I want a Warhammer 40k Strategy game that offers me an as complete as humanly possible terrifying battlefield of the 40k universe. I think Relic could have pulled this off. But they have chosen not to do so it seems.

What your askinf for is five years of work that no other game has ever gone through. If you wanna pay 1 billion dollars to get there, then its there for you to pay for, dude.

Five years sounds ok Conti, but you should subtract the time that has been used for the development of DoW, DoWWa, DC and SS. They can build and improve upon this existing gamesystem with an existing COH engine. And most of the fluff and design work has already been done for them by Games Workshop and Forgeworld. They do not have to actually design a unit for example. They just have to model it and implement it. When you look at the success of mods like Firestorm, DowXP, DoWPro, DCEnhanced, Soulstorm Enhanced, etc. etc. it is obvious that a majority of the community doesn't want LESS races, LESS units, LESS squads etc. They want an upgraded, updated, enhanced, improved and expanded DoW. For example we do have a total of NINE races now. But regarding DoW2 the community has already returned to old discussions like "What might be the third and fourth races?". That's very sad I think.

With the whole mass unit thing, though, it subtracts the whole strategy part of the game. Also, a space marine isn't gonna land on a planet and build a whole freakin city to pump out the troops, neither are any of the other races. Thats one huge problem I have with DoW. If they overhauled the whole building thing, then it would be cool. One more problem is that they aren't sticking to TT which really p!sses me off.

Andreaz, cont, don't you two see that both your ideas can work together? They can make both. Its called "options." Most likely they won't but that doesn't mean they can't. If they really wanted to revitalise this series then they need to pull out all the stops. This can't be just "DoW with a new engine." This needs to be "DoW all that it was and all that it could have been." They could have options for small special forces type battles (SM and assassin stuff) or large sprawling battles (IG vs orks or nids) with a simple a thing as map selection and a victory setting of some sort. Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander both have variable unit limits. why not DoW2? TT has variable unit limits, point limits. You should be able to customize your forces outside of battle. Not just in color but in wargear. example: I make an army that can't pick a psyker (blacktemplars.) I should get some points that I can invest in other features of my army. this would do several things. one it would give you more a feel for your army (no more trying to ignore that librarian) and it would add more strategy to the game. You couldn't just assume because someone had X race that you have to use Y build order to win. Also by letting you chose outside of battle you could have huge numbers of unit choices without them bogging down your UI. example: I picked a Korn based chaos race. I don't need icons for nurgle or what not taking up space on my menu. I definatly think they should do away with their current build mechanism. They should have a call in feature as an OPTION. that way people can have the more true to TT battles if they want; while at the click of a button have more true to Fluff. It should be a call in also. not a magic "unit appears beside building" they had this in CoH and they should have used it for all troops not just special ones. However, I have a very strong feeling you won't get any of this (maybe the call in feature.) It seems to me Relic/THQ has a trend of putting less effort and less imagination into each successive release and draging you along for money. Most likely you will get small battles with orks and sm with lots of flash and no substanence. you will more than likely be reliant on the modders to make most of the really neat stuff as has been standard since WA. IF and a big IF. I hear that the game is actually good after it is released (from players not reviewers) I MAY look into getting it. I will however wait for its price to drop either way as I got CoH and they killed it with their stupid merged expansion.

@84. I want to buy YOUR game. :)

 #86 - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 05-01-2008 at 05:01
The game looks amazing already. Promises to fix a lot of DoW shortcomings, ie., more focus on combat, less on mobbing the enemy. More tactics, less strategy, the way W40K should be.

#87 - Posted by: Andreaz (Member) on 05-01-2008 at 12:38
@ #84 I'd buy your game too.:) @ #86 We'll have to see. I hope it is going to be a nice game in it's own right. As I said I'm going to buy it anyhow. I never played TT, but I love the fuff and I own all the codices, Forgeworld books etc. I sure hope they improve the modability and customizability of the game for the community. For example I'd like to see selectable highres skin patterns so we will finally be able to field any type of Space Marine Chapter with correct skins. If they do that I'm sure that talented people like IBBoard, Hangar-8, Zke etc will go for it and make some incredible stuff for us.
